I recommend the Tamiya TB02, and add some EVO 3 hop-ups, like the upper lower graphite decks, and the EVO 3 aluminium motor mount. Then you essentially got a watered-down EVO 3 which will certainly be a hugely competetive car!
-
If you buy the EVO 3 upper and lower graphite decks, you should then be able to use the EVO 3 aluminium motor mount with them. Then your TB02 will be on its way to being a EVO 3

If you want to race competetively then go for a Losi or Associated or Schumacher buggy/truck. But for fun, then get the Tamiya. Tamiya offroad stuff isnt really good for racing, they seem to only make pure racing onroad cars, such as the EVO 3 and TRF series.

Anything from the TB Evolution 3 works on the TB-02, but in some cases you will have to buy a combination of EVO 3 things to get parts to fit. For example, to use the EVO 3 motor mount, you will also need the EVO 3 graphite decks. Check out this Tamiya article on the TB-02 / EVO 3 : http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/rc/setuptips/tb02.html

I would have to say the Tamiya TB Evolution 3 Surikarn edition, or new TRF415.
-
The TB-02 has the TB Evolution 3 drive chain, and TA04 suspension arms, so it should be a great racer, with much hop-up potential.

servo savers are mainly there just to save the servo from breaking when you crash into stuff. but you can get a high torque servo saver from tamiya which may help.

that oil you got with those shocks is definitely #900 or 90wt. Look very very carefully at the instructions, you will see it tells you there.

traction roll is usually caused by too much grip on the rear, so try these : 1. lower the ride height - for stability 2. stiffen rear suspension - reduce grip 3. try a sway bar on the rear only - stability 4. maybe even try less grippier tyres than x-patterns, try tamiya reinforced type-A tyres all around the car.

thanks, would you think a TB02 with Graphite Decks & Aluminium motor mount from then EVO III would be as good as the TA04? As far as Im concerned its almost an EVO III once you do that. What other parts of the EVO III would you say are essential for competition, that I can put on the TB02. Thanks

Its complicated why I cant get the EVO, not available here. We arent allowed the TRF414/5, we run asia cup rules/world cup rules, we actually call the class 4WD GT. How about this question is the EVO III better than a TA04-TRF? (your opinion) I dont mind belt or shaft driven. Thanks

TA04-R is very hopped up, but the TA04 is now 4 years old, and may be replaced soon. TB02 is not very hopped up, but has potential due to compatability with EVO III, and is only a year old. I want to race Tamiya Cup Series (GT-1). which car would you choose? Why? Cost is not an issue. -thanks guys

If you get the PROLONG SPL100 general purpose spray in your country, you should get some, it removes rust pretty well, and is also great for lubricating bearings, universals, and creaky doors
-
I suggest you get rid of those standard plugs and get Deans or Corally plugs, the standard plugs can melt with stock or modified motors !!!

the tub from the Manta Ray I THINK is a few centremeters longer than the TA02 tub, the wheelbase is definitely longer, and I think its due to the tub, and it will bolt straight on with no problem, and is exactly the same in design, except for the length of course.

Is R/C racing struggling all over the world? are your clubs getting smaller, and events getting less attendance? In South Africa it has dropped drastically, in Durban we had about 3 electric tracks, now we have none. I have to drive 30 minutes for the nearest club (its not too bad, but would be better to have one in home city ) how is racing in your Country?

those rally minis look pretty hilarious, dont know why, but looks fun
-
yeah, the owner decided to take it offroad, foam tyres and all!!! the idiot!

Tamiya Tyres 1. Super Grip Radial 2. M2 Radial 3. Racing Radial which has the most grip, and which has the least grip? thanks
-
Thanks Guys. You have been a great help, the main reason I asked this question is because at Tamiya Asia Cup they actually run the M03L and TT01 together, and I was hoping that someone may of seen them compete against each other. The TT01 seems strong, and durable, but I was worried about the amount of friction the 4wd system would create. http://mysite.mweb.co.za/residents/alextod...24/DSC00053.jpg heres a pic I took, but it had a stock motor and foam tyres.

M03L vs TT01, which one would be faster around a track running Tamiya Cup rules with Johnson 540 motors? thanks
-
Hi. Can you help me in choosing the best tire & insert setup for my M04L? Bearing in mind we cannot use the Type A Slicks, only the super-grip radials, soft slicks, M2 radials and the Semi-Slicks? And which insert combination should I use? thanks -Nick
-
does anyone have the TT01 manual? if so please e-mail it to me, on nickcook@webmail.co.za
-
does anyone have the TA02 Special Graphite Chassis Manual, please e-mail me on nickcook@webmail.co.za thanks -Nick
-
Hi Please can I have ideas on how to set up my M01 for racing? At the moment I have put the tub backwards to put the battery at the back to distibute weight as the car was too twitchy, and oversteered. Thanks[] -Nick
