  1. 27th October 2004 is the ISTC World Champs. Im excited to see who's gonna win this time, Im supporting Tamiya of course, and am surprised to hear ( from www.rczone.net ) that Surikarn will be using the TB Evolution 4. I suppose we will have to wait to see how true that is!

    GO TAMIYA!

  2. Hi guys.

turns out Im only allowed up to a evo 2 at our TCS!

Oh well. Probably gonna end up with a TRF415 for Open Racing. I agree the TA04 is a pretty good car, I just want to play around with one of the new tamiyas, they look much better balanced with where the battery pack is, also look a lot simpler, so less to break.

    thanks for your help guys

  3. I flush bearings out using Benzene. Let them soak in a glass bottle of benzene for a few minutes, then take them out and spin them on a screw driver. The benzene inside will "chew up" any grease and dirt. Then let the bearings dry, and then use a light oil to oil them (I use Prolong general purpose spray). Another idea to losen up the drive-chain is to get the aluminium clamp on hexes, so you can tighten the wheel-nut properly without pushing the hex onto the upright.

  4. Thanks, you've been a big help.

Why I want the EVO 4:

    1. I live in South Africa, and we only race outdoors, so sealed drivechain is a bonus

    2. We aren't allow the TRF415 at Tamiya Cup here, so only good for normal SuperStock/Mod racing, and I really want to compete in tamiya cup, because of the possibility of winning the free trip overseas.

obviously Im not happy with the what you say about the rear cup, sounds like a pretty big problem, as I am prone to crash from time to time.

So its a choice between a TA04 (which I have already) against the EVO 4, and Im guessing the EVO 4 is way better, despite the cup problem?

    thanks

    -Nick

  5. The information you gave in your original post seems to conflict. Quote "charging time: 100 mAh 30 to 120 minutes"

100mah will take a minimum of 17 hours, for a small battery 1700mah pack to charge, and about 25 hours for a 2500mah pack.

So charging for 30 to 120min, as stated, will get you nowhere.

You sure its not 1000mAh / 1 A ? Then 30min to 120min makes more sense. Just divide the pack size by the rate. So 2500mah divide by 100mah gives you 25 hours (approx.)

  6. My Peak Stock motor is measured at 7.0V and it puts out 21 000 revs @ 7.0V, and it keeps up with the best of the stock motors. Also you better check what Voltage the RZ is tested on, maybe its "5V" as has been mentioned, but that seems pointless testing at that voltage.

Anyway what counts is what happens on the track, and Ive seen the old Tamiya Type-R kill a Trinity Monster Power in power and speed, and I doubt the new RZ will be slower. Revs also isnt everything, if its got power, you just gear it up.

  7. OH and...

charge time is generally relative to the size of the packs, and how many amps you crank into them. Even if you look after NiMH packs, they dont seem to last as long as nicads, not sure why.

  8. fasterthebetter - where in SA u from? Im in Durbz.

Let me try put things into a lekker perspective here :)

I love 2400mah Nicad packs because they will last years if you look after them. NiMH packs dont last that long :P and need a special charger (so they dont overheat). When you "Peak" a battery the charger looks for a drop in voltage as the "Peak" and stops charging. This drop is smaller with NiMH than Nicads, so need smaller threshold.

NiMH batteries are also lighter than Nicads in terms of mah/weight ratio.

I only recommend NiMH packs if you gonna race serious modifieds, otherwise 2400mah Sanyo Nicads are ACE. If you have to get NiMH get GP3300, NEVER buy no-name name brand packs!

NiMH are cheaper in the sense that you get more capacity for a similar price, but it all depends if they are matched, High Voltage, and of course the brand.

  9. yeah, this is defintely the best place, if I need any technical help, Tamiya or not, I post it here, and never wait more than a day for some great advice. Thanks to WillyChang, hes always the first to reply with help from the technical/racing side!
