Haha, yeah the tyres are glued on dude! Although it is that kind of effect... Well, looks like I'm gonna have to re-build the diff. What a pain!

Well I've tried my brand new battery in the Beetle which is better than the old one out of the Thunder Shot. However, it is still very slow to respond when accelerating. If I push the lever say half way forward, the motor spins up to speed instantly, but the car slowly gathers speed until it catches up with how fast the motor is spinning. I'm wondering if I've gone wrong assembling the ball diff or the gearbox or something? I sure hope not! The car is using stock bearings by the way, not ball races.

Well I managed to tighten the grub screw on the motor pinion, and the car seems much better now, just been razzing it round my kitchen! It does still seem to have a slight un-willingness to accelerate quickly though. I'm sure my Thunder Shot used to be much more sprightly. I've not driven it in years so I might try it and compare. Or is that just the difference between 4WD and FWD? Is it possible I've been over generous with the grease?

Hi everybody! I'm Jeremy, I'm new here. I hoped my first post would be a more general introduction once my car is finished, rather than jumping straight in with a technical query, but... I'm building a Tamiya VW New Beetle. I've got to the stage where it's a working chassis now - only the body left to do. So I figured I'd whip the battery out of my old Thunder Shot, give it a quick charge and test out the Bug. The problem is this: First time I went to accelerate, I thought the car was very slow to take off, then it slowly gathered speed. It sounded like the motor was spinning quite fast though, and the thumb stick was quite far forward. It was kind of like a slipping clutch effect on a real car. It then got slowly worse and now it barely moves at all. It just sits there with the motor spinning. I've no idea what I've done wrong, does anyone know what might be causing this? Any help would be much appreciated!
