OK thanks. I will probably invest in some new bearings in the future. So it's probably worth binning the original battery by the sounds of it then? For lubricating the bushes (do you mean the motor or wheels?) what would you reccomend?
As for the charger, will it make a difference ifI use the 'trickle' charge option?
-
The batteries I have are Ansmann Racing 1500 mAh NiCd. The charger is an Ansmann ac30 timer charger. I have so far only charged the batteries with the 30 min fast charge, the original battery a lot of times, only twice for the more recent.
It doesn't have ball bearings, I just assembled it with the orginals from the rere boxed set however the wheels still seem to be moving freely.
Thanks again.

Hi, sorry to bring this topic up again, but have just started to use my Rising Fighter again after not using it for ages (due to weather and not having time). It' seems to be running funny. Sometimes it isn't going forward when I press forward on the control and other times it is just going forwards withou me pressing anything.
Any ideas what I need to do this, or can I just reset the ESC? How would I do this?
Thanks again.

I have had my Lunchbox a while no and have noticed my run times reducing. I only use 1500 ansmann batteries I got from Goldstar when I bought the package. I have swapped the battery for a new one and although run time has improved it's still not as long as it once was.
What could be the reason? It may have got slightly wet some time ago but not excessively.

Excellent! All is working as it should be then. Thanks to all. Ain't Tamiyaclub great!

Hi, just built my Rising Fighter (my 2nd build after my Lunchbox a couple of years ago) and have a couple of questions. The first is that reverse seems to be quite slow and seems to take a second or two to kick in compared to going forward (and sounds like it is whining slightly). Is this normal?
Also, it has a Mtroniks Sport 20 Speed Controller and I had to click the Acoms controllers CH2 switch to 'R' rather than 'N' otherwise pushing the stick forward sent the car into reverse and vice versa. Have I wired something up wrong? It works when in the 'R' position but I want to make sure it's ok to run it like this.
Thanks

Forgot to say, very nice looking pair of Lunchies by the way!

I got myself a Lunchbox a year or two back and think it's great with a standard 540. I'd personally enjoy it and if I wanted something faster get another buggy. I was bought a Rising Fighter for Christmas (as it was going cheap and basically a Hornet/Grasshopper clone for less cost - grateful and happy I was too) but if I was to buy myself I'd get a rere of something else 'cos that's what I'm in to or something more modern - I'm also tempted by an Ansmann Mad Rat as it's so cheap and good for the cost or a 'modern' Tamiya like a Sand Viper.
Anyway, enjoy the Lunchie as it is. I think it's great!

I think I'll be getting a Rising Fighter off my wife (the £99 offer that was on at Goldstar Stockists was just too good to pass up) which I'm looking forward to building.
I was after either an Ansmann Mad Rat, but as this will only be my second kit it may have been a little bit tricky to build, or a Hornet. However the Hornet with a similiar deal was I think about £50 more for what is essentially the same car.
Can't wait as I really enjoyed building and using my Lunchbox a couple of years back. An added bonus is my kids are getting to an age where they will be able to use them too.
Think I may treat myself to a Mad Rat for my birthday later in the year but Tamiya's are just so tempting to my nostalic side and I know that the instructions will be easy to follow.
-
I guess that means that they ain't so good?
-
I've been reading about these cars and some people seem to think that the likes of the Mad Rat and Smackers are a possibility as competitive racers. Is this true against the likes of Associated's etc? They seem to be very cheap, but are they any good and would they need a lot of hop ups compared to other competitive cars?
Thanks

Looking great so far! Once the trim and stickers are on it will look ace.
-
I'm trying decide between these two models aswell. How difficult to follow are the instructions for the Mad Rat? To be honest that will probably be a deciding factor for me. It would be good to see some pictures of yours.
-
Jealous? Yup. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out! How much did it set you back?
-
I quite fancy getting one of these but there doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm for the model and I can't help thinking why? It's basically a Grasshopper/Hornet with a slightly different shell but cheaper! What's wrong with it? it seems a beeter idea than buying a Grasshopper and sticking a 540 motor in it.
-
Cheers! I must admit I like the look of it in the old shell aswell but whenever i look at a new RC car/truck I always wish mine looked as good as new. This keeps me happy with a new for show shell when I just like to look at he buggy (sad I know) and when I want to run it without fear of damaging the shell.

I'm just after a bit of advice. My receiver aerila has snapped in a couple of places and although I've managed to repair it by twisting the wire togethr I don't want to do it again.
However, it's very difficult to thread it through the plastic tube - sometimes it just doesn't want to go. Any tips for getting it through the tube or how to prevent twisting and snapping of the little black wire?
-
Decided to clean up the truck and photo it with it's nice new shell on. It was filthy. I've kept the old shell so that I can run it with that one on and use the good one for show.

Hi, yeah the info is just in the posts above. I've circled the areas where I've put it. You know the rubber bits you put on the original suspension? Well I had enough length to cut up and secure in the cavity on either side where those fiddly springs go. It's not perfect but for the purposes of bashing it's fine and in my opinion has definitely improved the handling over standard.
-
Another (minor) update. I was fed up with scratching and damaging my origignal shell and still wanted it 'new' looking, so I've decided to get a new shell solely for display purposes. Got it all painted and detailed today.
The original shell I will of course use for bashing. Unless it breaks completelyr I doubt the other one will get used (in which case I'll buy another spare).
Also, I still haven't got round to using a '3rd shock' as i'm quite happy with the rubber inserts I've used. Just need to decide which buggy to get next.

Crumbs! Are you going to keep your Lunchie like that/repair it or get a new shell? Think mine is pretty tame in comparison!
-
That looks great! I can't even tell where it's been glued! Rest of the shell looks immaculate.
-
Having ran my Lunchbox for a week or two it's already showing signs of wear and tear. Just wondered what sort of damage you guys do to your buggies/trucks shell and if you ever replace them, particularly your bashers?
Love to see some pics too.

Hi, I actually meant I was UK based. I just didn't think it would be worth it to pay postage from the other side of the world.
How much are you after delivered?
Thanks, Tristan

I'm actually away at work at the minute but back at the weekend. I should be able to try it then. It sounds as if it might work though. I must admit I'm not too keen on the ESC. Is there a good cheap option out there? I will be keeping the buggy standard so nothing fancy would be needed I don't think.
