  1. Very interesting! There are some clever minds on this forum! Yes, they can't remake the Technipower (as that came from Mabushi or some other sub-supplier, right?). But the golden wheels... Why not? My suggestion to Tamiya Headquarters: Make a Supershot ugrade kit for the re-re Hotshot! Zero risk!!! Could be done for a lot more... Egress, Ford Ranger +++ SIDENOTE: As I see it this re-re thing from Tamiya is quite unprecedented, super cool & very successful! Did you know what GRP (It. RC tire manufacturer) and Novarossi (it. RC engine manufacturer) did in the past? They made a bunch of different brands, with exclusive distributors for each of their "own" brands. And 99% of the racers didn't know the products were the same... talk about a clever marketing strategy!!!
  2. No, it's the same type as the Sand Scorcher shell, white plastic (ABS?). Not slick "bucket type" like the HB, so very easy to paint/spray, no prep needed
  3. Very interesting thoughts! Would have been great to see sales statistics for the re-res! Age, had one as a kid, why bought etc... Could someone at a LHS do a small survey? Btw I think the SR body fits the DT chassis better than the HB. The wheel arches are more open than on the HB, so the much wider wheels fit it great!
  4. I'd love to see re-re Kyoshos too! Didn't Tamiya also start it all with those Gen II TamTech cars? Agreed this can be the start of something bigger! But first of all there's the question if they've foreseen this and kept all the moulds etc like Tamiya did... And they have a lot fewer models that Tamiya, still it would have been great! Don't forget the Progress 4WDS! What a crappy high-tech car that was! "Kyoshos Avante"! Considering noboby has yet "responded" to Tamiyas re-re success, I do see it at a longshot that any other manufacturers will follow...
  5. LOL! Oh so true! My guess it also that this, although quite suprising, is good business for them! Think about it... being able to reproduce even the SRB, in full metal jacket, today! At that low price, and still make a good profit!!! HAT'S OFF!!! I believe Mr. Tamiya have been planning to do this even back when it all started!!! I mean, most manufacturers wouldn't be able to do this at all!
  6. Having owned both the original HB and SR as a kid, and using them extensively I think I may explain why Tamiya has chosen this route for the re-releases. Most re-re cars have been upgraded in order to take away the old BIG flaws: More solid Avante, more solid SRB + bigger shocks, better Frog axles... Still, those were minor fixes. The HB/SR had a lot of hickups... the supports for the front spring suspesnion will break just looking at it. The front swing arm mounts will break on a hard landing or some impact. The open rear gearbox will kill itself in a very short time indeed, install a 540 and it will be dead even faster. No diff = not very smooth to drive. And rear positive camber angle and no toe-in. More or less noe rear suspension = super bouncy ride. By comparison the Grasshopper handles fantastic compared to these guys So I think it's all just because they want people to enjoy the retro and cool looks, but also be able to have fun on the track with it! And the lower price the better. Yes, you can do laydown shocks and all that... but it would mean a lot of new parts/moulds = higher price... Not to forget it just makes the whole re-re ting more unpredictable and interesting! Hey! It's Tamiya's cars, they can do what ever they want!
  7. Weeeeeeeeeeeell... I guess this is a bit like gold digging... you go for the big ones first, then the smaller ones... The "golden era" of Tamiya RC cars is not that long, and the 80s won't come back... So my theory is that once all the big stars have been re-released with the 3-speeds as the grand finale... then Tamiya will go back and give us a lot of the lesser movie star roles = Supershot, Ford Ranger, Super Champ... but it'll take time... they like to keep us on the edge of our seats Never seen any company with any product do this thing... it's just unreal!!! Imagine that the Tamiya factory is bigger then Huyndai's...
  8. Amen! One of the best postings I've ever read!!!
  9. Very good points there! Still, personally I love just building and looking at the oldies, with all their flaws. So the closer to the original the better for me It's ok, we get it, now go back to your cruzade tread! Let us have our fun!
  10. Egress - 2011/12 Porche 959 Rally (and Toyota) - 2012 3-speed (Hilux and Blazer) - 2013
  11. Well, we know they are able to remake any model they want! Just think about it - they even re-re'd the XR311!!! So I'm 100% sure the 3-speeds will arrive sooner or later... but why should Tamiya rush it? Think about it... over more years they continue giving us oldies goldies... the more cars in total we will buy If they gave us the Beetle, 3-speeds, Avante +++ in one year, it would be too much money to spend... but over MANY years most guys can get ALL the models they want... Only thing I see is that they prefer to bring back the "basic cooking models" + without bearings, carbon, titanium etc, only to make the prices as low as possible. Most cars won't leave the shelves anyway Tamiya, I love it!!! Btw. I saw Kyosho just released a mini-Z or something of the old Scorpion... maybe they want a piece of the action as well? Oh, and I agree as to the HB and SR re-releases, they should at least have made the chassis quite similar to the original! I mean, if I want performance I may just as well put a HB shell on top of a Team Xtreme Predator X11 (laydown susp so any shell would fit...).
  12. We would all like to know! But it seems only some guys at Tamiya know... there's no logical order or timing as to thre re-releases, kinda fun actually! So we'll just have to wait and see! I really hope the original Hilux or Bruiser will come... those were on my wish list as a kid, but way WAY too expensive
  13. Thx! I was thinking about black silicone seal (or acrylic), to try get that into the cracks as a glue. The advantage of that vs. super glue is that it that the excess can be washed off easily with soap water. Anyone tried?
  14. If there's already a tread on this, my apoligies! And direct me please! Some of my restoration projects have tires that are cracked and dry, they virtually fall apart if you work them... is there any way to make them "stick together" again? Silikone of course makes them look black and shiny, and also preserves them. But I need a way to seal the cracks and bond the parts that are really messed up...
  15. Is it possible to add a slipper clutch to this chassis in an easy way?
  16. Defo the 3 speeds! But I doubt the re-releases will end... My guess is they will continue forever to randomly lure the money out of old people wanting to relive their childhood memories
  17. Check this out: http://www.ymr.no/10orTip8.htm (if you're gonna run it) Whole car: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...1&sid=22039 Enjoy the build! Nothing special comes to mind! Just that I LOVE assembling that mono shock system (even if it doesn't work well)!
  18. Here U go! http://www.ymr.no/10orTip9.htm
  19. Yup, no problem. Just go for it!
  20. Well, you could put it in the washing machine. But that gives a poor result (not black enough), the machine gets dirty, and you can't re-use the NYLON dye... Very easy to do though, just don't spill it all over the kitchen!
  21. White would give optimal results. But yellow MIGHT be ok as well, just give it a try! You can re-use the dying color & salt. I boil my rims in an old cooking pot. When cold again, I store it in an old soda bottle to be used again. So you've got nothing "to loose"! Oh, and it might be worth: -boiling them for a long time -let get cold and repeat process (for a darker colour)
  22. Yes, it would. You might paint it as it is first (with cracks), then patch it together afterwards with mash and Shoe Goo. Myself I also like to use a hot glue gun, but be careful if it's very thin lexan as it then may bend. Shoe Goo is more controllable. Good luck!
  23. Thx guys! Here's the whole car: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...1&sid=22039
