  1. Agree, the Avante MK II is a joke. It kinda like "we stick this shell on some new chassis that we happen to have", and a cheap one too. The original 88'Avante was an "at all cost" full blown racing machine. But it seems they didn't do enough testing. The design was "right", but it was ahead of it's time. OK, it was probably also unessesary complicated as well. No matter what, it didn't give the results that TRF hoped for... and I guess the 2001 in a way was to try and restore some of the "hope" imbedded in the original Avante. Still, I've never driven either one. And I only own a 2001. But even that car looks VERY fragile! Serpent did the same thing with their Veteq (see www.ymr.no/historie.htm - under the year 2001), which was the most sophisticated 1:8 TR car ever made. But it turned out to be a failure. It was simply too complicated, and the factory did too little testing before putting it to market. Without the child diseases and with more knowledge it could have been the car to beat even today! They lost a lot of customers because of that car... Even back in 1970 (see the same link) there was a car called "Dynamic"- which was insanely advanced! It was even more advanced than today's cars! But the problems were: -it didn't have todays materials (lighter & stronger) -it was a 1:1 car scale down = too complex -it didn't have today's tires (much more grip) >> a heavy, fragile, way too complex car! But nonetheless a stunning piece of engineering! The light & simple pan cars of that era drove around it in circles... I've read that Associated's RC10 was so revolutionary & successful largely due to the fact that they sat down with a blank sheet of paper, and designed a new RC car from ground up. In stead of doing what the others did: Try and make scaled down versions of real cars...
  2. Totally agree! And really really hope it's the 88'version!!!
  3. With today's knowledge, materials and light LiPo batteries - it may even work very well!!! Now we're talking a seriously cool runner! But what do you guys think? 88 or 2001 version? (I guess in a way the 2001 WAS already a re-release of the 88)
  4. Can't see any picture... Really hope it's the 88'version with all the metal parts! But I'm afraid it's more likely the 2001 version, as that one would be priced much lower (basically plastic). As someone on here said the re-releases are normally the "basic cooking model", not the full blown one. What about the Hilux or Blazing Blazer??? GOD I'd love to have one of those as a re-release!!! Desperately wanted one as a kid, but it was way WAY out of my price range... @Tamiya: WE LOVE YOU!!!
  5. Both were of great help, thanks a lot guys! I bought some F1 stickers from a guy, which I seem to recall was based in Hawaii (of all places!) - anyone remember the web adress? Or any more webshops with F1 stickers?
  6. Very old school, but great anyway! Thanks a lot guys!!!
  7. Especially looking for the Vodafone McLaren stickers... And must be from a webshop. All help is higly appreaciated!
  8. [No live eBay links] -does anything similar to this exist in 1:10 scale?
  9. I don't know the TA-02 chassis, so can't help you there. Anyone else?
  10. HAHAHA!!! And that the importer had gifted them a kit as a prize...
  11. I've done this several times. It gets better when you've used the swab a little, so it's not as "fuzzy" You can also use nail polish to seal the edges. With colour if you want some added "bling"
  12. Yeah, I've never driven one. But wanted one in my collection. I've got very long RC racing experience, and you can just by looking at it tell that this isn't (wasn't) a winner's car Totally over engineered and VERY fragile! But man, does it look beautiful! When I was a kid back in 1984 I went for the Kyosho Progress 4WDS (4-wheel drive AND 4-wheel steering). It cost an arm and a leg, and I looked at it in the LHS so many times before I finally made the decision to buy it... it looked extremely sophisticated, but I was very sceptical as to all the fancy new stuff... and that one also turned out to be a complete fiasco... it was absolutely rubbish! I could never do a full battery without having to fix some problem! The Super Shot 2 years later was way, way better! Still, I have one of those in my collection also. Mad Scientist stuff also has it's charm! Built a Re-re Top Force a couple of weeks ago. And that was kinda surprising! It actually has "quick change" diffs (only 4 screws and it drops out)! Like the modern Aero or Durango "invented"... Still, when you see all those steel self-tapping body screws still being used and all that plastic fantastic... it's like they always tried to build a winner with the wrong building blocks (low cost restaints perhaps). And when they finally went to more exclusive materials (and higher selling prices), they went totally overboard with the engineering (Avante, Egress etc)... But we LOVE Tamiya for what it is! LOL! Just look at that suspension picture with 1000x links... -Just out of curiosity: Would it be possible to cram in yet another couple of links???
  13. Hope you guys don't mind me "publishing" your stuff: http://www.ymr.no/10ortip8.htm Don't want it to disappear into the big, black forum hole...
  14. Wohoooo!!! NICE!!! Great job on the rear end! Where did you get that mini Manta Ray in the back seat from? Priceless! Are there others as well? Edit: OK, pull back car from the bay. What other models are there? What should I search for specifically? I'm guessing this one lucky cowboy has a day off from family life and is headed for his local RC track!
  15. Cool! I see that he has dremeled away more on the sides, in order to place the rack further back >> smart! But why do you use the fibreglass plate? Just to stiffen it up more? Do you glue it on top of the plastic? [off to sleep]
  16. Found it on ebay, as all other things imaginable... that place never seizes to amaze me...
  17. Agreed! K.I.S.S. is always a good principle!
  18. Gimme the Hilux or Blazing Blazer!!! If only the other brands could do Re-releases as well!!! It's awesome!!! Would anybody be so kind as to list the full re-release list so far?
  19. Check this out! Bormac's steering mod: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...&cid=102456 >> very, very nice as well!!!
  20. Ordered this yesterday, should be great! It was just too much work to use the parts from the RC Channel kit for the mod. This OTOH should be pretty straightforward!
  21. Guys, where online can I buy a strong but flexible plastic material? Preferable a sheet of black and at least 2-3 mm thick. I want to make a custom made bumper, maybe also skid plate from this. Any help is highly appreaciated! Also interested in online webshops that sell delrin blocks/plates (to make suspension parts etc from).
  22. No, the RC Channel kit is plug & play! And very easy instructions, they deserve a lot of credit for that! It's a very good kit! I just don't like the lack of ground clearance (it's not great with the std. solution either) >> modify! Well, we very seldom use sway bars in competition buggy racing. And I think for these oldies it's even less useful. They take away grip, and buggies need that. I only use sway bars if I have traction rolling problems on astro turf... and it's gotta be fairly flat also! Sway bars are not great over bumps! And I then only use it in the rear. Up front it takes away too much steering = slower. You can never have enough steering! So I say away with them, both front & rear - you'll be faster and more consistent without them! Unless you insist on using vintage tires and have massive oversteer - then a front sway bar would cure that a little bit. I've done a lot of 1:8 TR racing, and there we always use thick sway bars front & rear. But then again we have MASSIVE grip and extreme cornering speeds! More or less all competiton cars now have quite inclined shocks. Works like a charm! Some moderator on TC please make a "sticky" Shot tread!?
  23. LOL! Just give her a good "overhaul", let her go to sleep... than back to the tinkering...
