Might also be worth fitting some lead weights in the front of the chassis to keep the front wheels on the ground more often, there are loads of other mods you can do but I think the ESC and ball bearings should be done first, I will try and find a link that may help you

E2A: Would a higher wind motor not work for this?, like a rock crawler motor and that would be a straight swap with no other mods.

Would it help if we all e-mail Tamiya USA and keep asking for the Scorcher?
I have a few times but only had an automated response so far.
-
My impression from how it behaved especialy on the ramp was that it doesn't have a diff.
Hmm, we will have to wait and see!

I have to agree, look at how easily it pulls a wheelie on the ramp, I would say no diff.

Was going to post this in the other thread but got carried away, sorry.

You have to wait for a moderator to approve it, shouldn't be too long.

So how will you open those blister packs?
Will you cut each part open as you need it? or carefully remove the card from the back to access all the parts at once?
Me, I think I would remove the card from the back.

Didn't the link to the promotional video stae at the end of the film, Sand Scorcher to follow or coming soon? Something like that anyway.
I bet your bottom dollar the 'Holy Grail' will be the talking point on the forum within the next 6 months.........watch this space.
I thought that was a TC users personal vid and that he meant he was doing a SS movie next??

E2A:
This video from TamOR couldn't fit this news/topic better!!!"In 1979 Tamiya released the Rough Rider, NOW! after 30 years... he's back!"
http://www.tamiyaclubmovies.com/movies/19212/mIA81G8EW8O.wmv

I just asked Tamiya USA if they will re-release the scorcher,...here is their reply,..
Dear Tamiya Customer, Unfortunately we at Tamiya America don't have that information, all of Tamiya's decisions regarding development and planning for new releases and"re-releases" are made at Tamiya Inc. in Japan and are posted on their sitefirst. If you would like to see the products that Tamiya is planning to release, please go to: http://www.tamiya.com/english/e-home.htm Tamiya AmericaCustomer Service
Maybe if enough people ask?

The prominent figure of the R/C car boom was the Buggy Champ which was first released in 1979. Tamiya is now proud to re-release the Buggy Champ to celebrate the car's 30thyear anniversary. The chassis has been finely tuned while maintaining the original features of the chassis such as the unique front double trailing arms and rear torsion suspension.R/C fans' hearts will definitely race when they see the nostalgic form and relive the dynamic performance of this machine.
This is a 1/10 R/C assembly kit.
Length: 400mm-Full ball bearings.
ESC and type 540 motor included.
Comes loaded with many top quality parts for improved performance such as:
*A duralumin plate reinforced 2mm thick FRP main frame.
*Die-cast front and rear suspension arms, front axle, and wheel hubs have been newlydesigned for this re-release.
*Clear transparent waterproof case protects the R/C mechanisms.
*Reinforced front uprights.
*Redesigned oil dampers.
Comes in the same original blister pack style packaging.
White plastic easy-to-paint body included.
Can be used with separately available LF1100-6.6V Racing Pack (Item 55105) which isspecifically made for this machine.
From the Tamiya American site, (apologies if all-ready posted)

It's not VW, It's EMPI whos got the upper hand here...(if I'm not wrong)
Should we all ask EMPI, or send them a link to this thread?

There are many other companys producing the Baja kit for bugs, I don't think they are licensed, just needs to differ slightly from the EMPI version(I think?)

i cant seem to sign in for some reson

I think you have to use a different sign in to the one on the forum, treat it as a different site,
hope that helps ya

-
Because it's generally accepted that the fibreglass front end conversion is a replica of the Empi one.
As for it not being called it VW, it's irrelevant, it has a VW badge on it, which is a trademark & subject to licensing fees.
Why do you think Tamiya stopped putting Ford on the tailgate of the Blackfoot shells & put 4x4x4 on the Clod grille ?

OK cool, thanks for clearing that up for me!
And Badboy, thanks for that!

-
I might be tempted to buy a RR and fit a blitzer shell.= Blitzer body shell prices through the roof

I have one all-ready sitting here doing nothing

-
Tamiya got to get License to both VW and EMPI for the body!
So probably no...
Why EMPI?, I know who EMPI is I have a few EMPI parts on my 1:1 car, but why do Tamiya need licence from EMPI as well as VW?
and also as it's not actually called a VW, do they need a licence for it?
I might be tempted to buy a RR and fit a blitzer shell.
-
Fixed again, found the broken piece of the body mount and glued it back on, I should have shares in superglue

and nicked the front wheels from my QD beetle

Bits replaced so far,...
Chassis,
D parts
E parts
and front wheels
Not bad, I have been abusing this truck for a few years now.
-
Here's what it looks like now!, very bad paint job and nice new wheels.

-
I have a blitzer for sale!, also have the original tamiya body and decals.
Interested?
It's had a paint job since those pics and new wheels but I still have the orange wheels, can put up more pics if you are interested

-
what are you doing to your pumpkin? I run the badword out of mine and all I have ever broke was a servo, a tie rod and body mounts
Mostly I just run it in the garden which is full of holes thanks to my dog,
The chassis is fixed now(well new), I just took it out a minute ago and the wheel broke again and also a body mount, time for two new front wheels now!.
Maybe I need a bigger bumper, or a better driver
, the gardens not really big enough to run it but I do try. -
Standard shocks? Don't you mean pogo-sticks LOL!
Those 19x2 Peak Racing motors are actually pretty good. I've run them myself from time to time and still have a good one sitting in the the brushed motor pile. Probably will never fit it to a chassis again as I gave away my unlimited brushed ESC to a needy cause.Have you checked out some of the strengthing and front end mods?
Yes pogo sticks, the cva's I had were from the rear of a Falcon and were a bit long for the pumpkin, I was just checking out all your mods earlier and your back yard track is so cool, I wish my back garden was bigger, but I have a big dog that likes to dig holes so I could never keep a track in as good condition as yours,
yes the motor really makes the pumpkin shift and still working with the original tamiya ESC( I guess I got lucky with that)
I may think about more mods to the pumpkin, but it's all about the money, or lack of at the moment!
-
I like what you are doing with the shock mounts
Which bit did you mean?, on the rear?
I am actually back to the standard shocks at the moment with the 3rd shock as well, and a 19*2 peak racing motor has replaced the rubbish ansmann motor that is pictured.

That's a Tamiya club members video I think and he means that he is doing a vid for the scorcher next.
