  1. Thanks. I have heard that the height of the end of the aerial affects the reception- it should be at the top of the aerial tube, not hanging down outside. Is this true? What about a SRB with the metal whip aerial? If the rx aerial will not reach to the loop at the top, what is the best thing to do? Lengthen the rx aerial? Solder it to the bottom of the whip?
  2. Just got an Acoms AR221/40 Rx from ebay. The calculator page says 40Mhz aerials should be about 46cm long. Correct. [?] The aerial is only 41cm. Is this the right length when new? Will it make a difference. [?] I also have an AR2/40 Rx with a 53cm aerial. Why the difference (assuming they are original). [?] Finally, how much difference will they make to performance. [?] Many thanks all. []
  3. Hi everyone. [] Are there any alloy front hub carriers available for the xc chassis? I thought part 53226 would fit, but it is discontinued. [!] Many thanks.
  4. Is this the guy selling XC bits from Germany on ebay now? Look good, but I don't read German, and no Paypal shown. [?] So not sure about payment, otherwise would buy a few bits.
  5. Well, got a pair on ebay, so will give them a try soon. Tread bars are not very deep, best to avoid hard surfaces I suppose? Of the SRBs, only the Ranger has wide front tyres. How does its handling compare to the others? I am just trying to get the best from my Rough Rider. Many Thanks. []
  6. I have a Rough Rider. Sometimes take it to the beach at low tide. Too many tourists about now though. [][] I have some very worn SS tyres in my spares box, and new ones are available on ebay now. So was just curious which rear tyres are best. [?] Also have some HPI adaptors, so could fit them to my XC crawler. Thanks. []
  7. Simple question: How good are Sand Scorcher rear tyres on dry sand [?] They look like they should have good forwards traction, but be hopeless on sideslopes. Is this so [?] How about the Blazing Blazer on dry sand [?] Thanks everyone. [8D][]
  8. What about Proline bodies for the Stampede? It has the same wheelbase, but not sure about the width? I suppose it is possible to cut the propshaft to fit the SWB layout. Could cut a bit out of the middle and stick the ends together in a hollow shaft. Would then be possible to use for either WB.
  9. My Touareg is going well as a crawler- locked diff, truck puller and so on, but I want a truck body for it. I have seen the Clod body on some in the showroom, but to get one new is expensive. I suppose the Parma lexan copy will fit. How good is it? Has anyone fitted any others? The best truck/Jeep bodies by HPI/Proline look waaay too big to me, is that correct? Thanks for your help. []
  10. Been out driving again, this time on dry dirt. It climbs really well, even on the BFGs. I guess the Truck Puller helps. [] Locked rear diff and Castrol heavy grease in front one to give a sort of limited-slip effect. Guess it's just long grass that is a problem, not sure if that's due to the tyres or low ground clearance [?] Anyway tyres seem OK, at least for the summer. [] I see that the Clod body can be made to fit. With same wheelbase, can Stampede fitting Proline bodies be used? Want a pickup or Jeep shell. Many thanks all. [8D]
  11. I want some more grippy tyres for my Touareg. Don't want to cut blocks off the BFG's though. Might jinx the AT ones on my 1:1 car [] Are there any that fit the original wheels? If not, what are the best mud tyres for 2.2" buggy wheels? Many thanks. []
  12. Postie just bought me my latest ebay win- new built Touareg for £70 [] No radio in it, so just rolling it around the floor. Doesn't seem to have much steering lock. Is this right? Can it be increased? How good are the propshaft uJ's? Do they last a lot longer than the old brass SRB ones? Many thanks.
  13. I have just won a Touareg on ebay. [] Reading these forums I see that many people modify the steering on XC cars. Can someone please explain the problem with the steering linkage, and the solution? Many thanks.[]
  14. Ahhh. www.modelsport.co.uk list both, with the 2 a bit cheaper than the original. Wondered if the 2 has bushes rather than ballraces or something[?] I have the original, it will go into the Touareg I just got on ebay. Tried it in my WW2, but it falls over climbing hills. [:0]
