Cheers Greg, I am guessing this one must be a Johnson one then. So will 550 size motors fit into tamiya then or are they totally different?
-
Haha that's true, every time I look at a build thread I get more ideas. Currently I am thinking about a cross between a brat and a sand scorcher, that must be doable even for a numpty like me

As the title really, just opened the lunchbox and found the silver can to be slightly different to the one that came in my blitzer. The blitzer one has a sticker saying mabuchi motor RS540SH there is also a stamped FL on the sticker, the end bell is black. The one that came in my lunchbox has no sticker, a silver end bell and the outer case is different in terms of finish. So are there different manufactures or is it a different type of mabuchi? Cheers Andy

Cool, this does not seem quite as daunting as I once thought.

Cheers Steve, plenty to go at there As my charger is just a basic one I am probably better to get a good charger like the overlander then it's just a case of battery's and at the price of the overlander one it seems to be a no brainer. Other than a lipo bag I am guessing there is nothing else? My tamiya esc's will be ok?

Haha! I am feeling slightly better now knowing I am not on my own

Ok guys I think its time to admit it, I have issues. My lunchbox black edition arrived on my birthday a week ago today and I have not yet managed to start building it but this week I found myself having rude thoughts about a holiday buggy, they just look like a hoot to drive and the modern chassis hidden under a retro shell really appeals. Obviously those wheels are just plain wrong so we are going to need hop ups but still I figured the buggy was a bargain so yesterday I ordered one. The thing is today I found myself looking at brats, I do really like that chassis and like the scale looks so I do really fancy one at some point (all these build threads are not helping) it's just some point should not be the day after ordering the HB should it? Then there is the hot shot, oh the avante that's nice too and everyone should have a clod shouldn't they... This could end in divorce

So are you better running deans on nimh too? I have one ezrun but that came with a tamiya connector and I also have a couple of super stock motors. Also what is the little lead for on the lipo packs? The Overlander Sport Track 3250 25C 7.4V 2S LiPo Battery - 3250mAh on eBay look like they would fit and are sub £25... That's nearly half the cost of my last nimh...
-
You got the brat didn't you
-
So as my esc's have tamiya connectors do u just use a deans to tamiya converter? I would not really fancy chopping things about as I would still need to run my nimh battery's.

I ordered a Holliday buggy 2010, they look fun

Just charging on the mains here, what's a psu? Do they do mains chargers?

Yep it was the cold that got me today, ended up in a garage for three hours and by the time I got home could hardly walk Hopefully might get it started tomorrow

Looking good matey, I really wanted to start mine today but my back has flared up making it uncomfortable to sit down for long.

So all this being said can you guys recommend a good charger and packs from say hobby king? They seem really cheap from there but its a mine field knowing what you need. I have to say having just paid not far short of £50 for an Orion nimh pack only to have it keep false peaking, or I guess that's what is happening. I am slightly miffed. My charger is only a basic delta peak but it keeps charging quickly then the run time is naff until I have ran and charged a few times. The issue I see is my fire dragon, not sure what other than a standard pack shape will fit in there and it has my ez run brushless in there. Other than that my models are, hornet, monster beetle, lunchbox, stadium blitzer and holiday buggy 2010. I would really like a battery that fits all if possible.

Thanks Steve, it there a pitch I need to look out for? Thanks Andy

Newest member saying hello, I have placed my order this morning after figuring out I could spend my reward points on Amazon and clearly had to buy something Tamiya. It was a close call between a HB or Brat and although the Brat looks like a nice build this thread convinced me that the HB just looks like a hoot to drive I am thinking of whacking my spare GT tuned in there so which pinion will I need to order? Thanks Andy

Cheers guys, so looking like its best to prime and paint then. So would you stick to tamiya paints?as the tins are only small will I need two black tins?
-
Hello guys, I am about to start my Lunchie and am slightly confused by how to paint the shell, Obviously it comes pre coloured but its not a nice finish so will need painting. The question is do you just paint straight onto the shell or does it require some sort of primer? I just don't see the point of it being pre coloured if you need to prime it anyway... The only advantage I can see to the pre coloured shell is hiding marks and chips but that would not work as well if it were primed. Also do peeps recommend Tamiya paint as I can see a few things online about using automotive paint from Halfords. Cheers Andy

Well I ordered two motors and CVA shocks on Tuesday, on Wednesday I got an e-mail to say no CVA shocks in stock so I asked for a part refund and to proceed with the motors. Since then nothing... I have sent an e-mail asking when the refund would happen but with no joy and I have not had anything to say my motors have been dispatched which is disappointing really. Will give than another day or so but not impressed with communication so far.

I am a heating engineer (self employed) and my wife is a manager.... For Tesco Can't get away from them on here.
-
Cheers for that buddy, while the body mount holes could probably be adapted easily the cut outs for the front shocks look a mile out. That's a shame as a mad bull shell is peanuts compared to a gh2 shell
-
My local hobby shop has a rising fighter he said I could have for £75... Can't say I'm not tempted to try something similar. Would the mad bull body fit? I am thinking grasshopper 2
-
I have ordered two sport tuned and the set of CVA dampers for under £25 via sal. Seemed a bargain.

Look forward to seeing this thread develop As I am I bit of a pinion numpty, what difference will the 19 tooth pinion make? It looks much bigger than the stock one. Which leads to the next question, how does it fit? is the motor mound adjustable? Andy
