  1. I think its kinda cool and when you have a read about the man himself he is a massive tamiya fan. Plus he owns a Fire dragon which makes him a man with taste imvho... ;-D
  2. Would star dish wheels fit straight on with hex adapters? I am thinking there are more tyre options with them. Andy
  3. Thanks guys, Looking at the wild one rims which adapters would I need? I have a fire dragon that is currently running hex adapters and db03 wheels, would adapters be the same as the FD as I have some of those obviously. Andy p.s. still really fancy getting a brat... so many tamiya so little time... oh and a wife keeping an eye on the pennys
  4. Hello guys, What do people generally run on the back of their hornets? I use mine for a mix of grass and dirt but as it's my favourite runner I tend to play on the street with it too and this eats the rear tyres. I would really like to keep the look of the car if possible so I am considering grasshopper tyres which look more robust but less grippy for grass and dirt? So what are the options that will fit the rims? how much grip do the GH tyres give? I am guessing anything will be better than the slicks she is currently sporting Andy
  5. Could I use this stuff? seems much better value than the tamiya grease and I am guessing its similar? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/finish-line-ceramic-grease/rp-prod30011
  6. Ok thanks, any tips on the best way to clean it off
  7. Is it really that bad? Its Losi not HPI but it does feel kind of sticky. Which Tamiy grease do I need to buy then as I will get some ordered and strip the box back down? Andy
  8. Has anyone tried this? I was recommended this by my LHS as the tube of Tamiya grease you got with the Stadium Blitzer kit was tiny and just about finished the diff. I have used it for the rest of the gear box but it seems much thicker and stickier than the Tamiya grease, it's sort of a green gloop . I am slightly bothered its so sticky it will create drag, obviously Losi is a good make but I am worried I am missing something? I have used it on the outer of the diff, the other gear and the pinion. As I have no idea what a hd ring is but know what a pinion is I am hoping I have done the right thing? (looks like a pig to clean off). Sorry for the total novice question but I have googled and I cannot find much information on it. Andy
  9. The kit oil is yellow and marked soft
  10. Hmmm I really should learn to use google first, seems 50950 is the key here. Plenty of these about so looks like I am safe
  11. Guys, I am nearly finished building my re re Blitzer but have made a bit of a school boy boo boo, I was having a problem getting the two rear lower shock mounts to screw on to the shaft correctly without leaving too much exposed thread. So rather than struggle with the shaft spinning I pre tapped them with a screw of the same diameter and exactly the same thread length... Sadly for me it seems the hole is not deep enough to take the full thread and has caused stress marks on both mounts Both lower mounts come on separate parts trees but both trees are the same 'X' tree part number 50950, I have contacted vintage tamiya parts but he only has the 'V' front trees in stock. So I am guessing that the same lower mount must be used on something else? My guess is they are long CVA type dampers so I am hoping the same long lower mounts must be used in other kits where he may have the trees in stock? Andy
  12. Oops sorry for starting a thread drift although it is BB related I guess I have no idea what weight the oil is other than soft but the front does feel much softer than the rear and the dampers do not fully return to the top where as the rear springs right back.
  13. Cheers guys, looks like I will be getting some CVD's now ;-) Out of interest I finished my rolling chassis today and my front dampers are much softer than the rear, is this normal? I followed the instructions fitting the correct pistons but both fronts are very soft as opposed to the rear. The tamiya oil supplied is soft. So is the blitzer normally much softer at the front or should I buy some firmer oil for them front? Car is looking great Max, I wish I could paint like that.
  14. All valid points :-) sorry if it seemed I was blaming the local hobby shops, they obviously have a business to run. My point was more about what people seem to want these days thus the hobby shops sending everyone down that route. I recently bought from time tunnel and got great service and picked up my stadium blitzer from model sport, for the record though my lms wanted £55 more for the blitzer than model sport which is a lot.... If we were talking ten or twenty pounds I would shop locally no doubt but as mentioned above, a lack of nice looking kits to browse, choise and high cost means the tinternet is probably the only way to get tamiya gear at the moment sadly.
  15. I read that too but I guess the point would be would 99% of us be able to tell the difference? Is it a really obvious upgrade that when it's done you can really notice it? Tamiya want nearly £40 for theirs.
  16. Yes I know exactly what you mean, maybe tamiya are missing a trick as even there latest models do not have the classic looks of the older kits an re re's and tend to be quite similar. At moment there is a generation of us that want the re re's but where do they go from there? I would like to see some of the newer kits with a bit more detail... drivers and better stickers of and box art ;-) Maybe that would bring in a new market of people after more detailed kits?
  17. I am not sure what it is like in the rest of the world but I visited three of my local model shops in the last week as all three stock Tamiya but when I arrive and ask about Tamiya products they seem surprised/bewildered that anyone would want one and they have very few Tamiya kits in stock. Straight away they start explaining how other brands are cheaper and better and that the kids today do not want Tamiya kits, everything seems to be RTR and to my eyes although the quality looks good all the new stuff looks the same... Bolton model mart used to be a huge Tamiya stockist, they had a window full of cars and used to have the 80's promo video's on behind the counter, I remember standing looking through that window every time I walked past dreaming of what I could buy next. Yesterday they had a Hornet and a stadium blitzer and the young chap behind the counter explained to me that nobody would buy a hornet as the RTR LRP was far quicker and handles much better and comes with everything in the box for the same money. Now I am sure in many respects he is correct but where is the fun in that? I thought model shops were about models and building models, that's where the fun is, and where is the fun in being the quickest and best handling? surely its about the fun you have driving the thing? My hornet is the most fun model I have, not because its good but because its bad, it bounces every where and struggles like mad to put the power down so driving it quickly is an art, but that for me is why its fun. So what hope have Tamiya got when the guys selling their stuff seem to want to push you down another track? Maybe its just a sign of the times? People wanting things right now and having to be the quickest and best. So have the model shops lost sight of what a model is/should be? Or am I just getting old Andy
  18. Noooooo I really want an avante and Banzi have them in stock... must resist, must resist...
  19. I am part way through building a Stadium blitzer and I am wondering what advantages do the CVD shafts give over the stock dog bones? I am purely using it for bashing about but it will have a super stock RZ motor fitted. Andy
  20. Thanks to everyone who replied, I spotted the offer time tunnel have on for TC members on acoms gear and ended up going that route as it was a bargain really. So sticking with 27mhz for now as it's probably fine for my needs. Thanks as well to lentner for your kind offer, the time tunnel offer was just to cheap to miss and had already ordered when I checked back here :-( Andy
  21. I ordered one of these late at night on the 29th and received it in the post today (31st), fantastic service and a great offer.
  22. Thanks for the reply's guys, yes lentner I am in Bolton near Manchester, what gear are you selling? I have been looking for in line bec's but am not having much luck? Currently I am just running tamiya 101's and my new blitzer has a 104 in the kit so no bec's. I also have an ez run brushless and I am not sure if that has bec in the esc?
  23. Thanks for the reply, I have spotted the flysky gear which appears to be the same as the ansmann? I am not sure I understand the difference between the BEC RX's and those that do not have it? My understanding was BEC meant I did not need 4x AA's like in the good ol days. I assumed all RX's would have it now but the flysky stuff does not say it is so would I need the AA's with it? Andy
  24. Hello guys, Hopefully somebody can shed a little light or advise on what I should do about radio gear, Currently I have a vintage acoms techniplus on 27mhz which is only used for my MB and on re visiting the hobby two years ago I stuck with what I knew and bought a new acoms set but this time thinking I was being smart (more crystals) I went 40mhz which I use for my re re fire dragon and hornet. The thing is I have just bought a stadium blitzer kit and on looking for a 40mhz acoms RX have found they only do the 27's now ... So, what to do... I do not really want to use my old transmitter with my new cars and as I cannot get any more 40mhz RX's I am stuck with either getting a full acoms 27mhz system and starting again or making the jump to 2.4ghz. The thing is I only really use my cars for bashing and chances are it will be mostly on my own, the acoms RX's and servo's are dirt cheap on the bay and I understand them, my worry is they stop making 27mhz and I have wasted yet more cash. I have been looking at the 2.4 kit and it looks like a mine field... back in the day you got acoms or futaba if you were posh. Now there are all sorts of brands I have never heard of and the RX's are nearly as expensive as the full kit with transmitter I have searched google but found very little to help, Spektrum seem to get a few mentions and I have seen a carson on modelsport that looks pretty good but again the RX is expensive. Also why do they all seem to have more than 2 channels? Why do you need more than two? (can you tell I am clueless ) So do I stick with what I know or jump to 2.4? I really do not want or need anything expensive for my use so I do not know if I am just over complicating things. One advantage I see of going to 2.4 is getting pistol grip, I have always liked stick trannys as its all I have known but one thing my reading had turned up is the advantages of pistol grip for steering feel. Cheers Andy
  25. That does look great!
