Great stuff, I did not realise that was what that was when it did that. I was just running them right down till the car was going really slow then started to judder. I am guessing I was running them too low then.

So I am guessing I just run it down until it starts to judder?

Hello, Thanks for the swift reply, do the tamiya esc's have a nimh cut out? Looks like I need to get my hands on a couple of acoms 40mhz receivers. I will have to keep my even the bay. Andy

Firstly hello, I have not been around these parts for a while as I have had a little break from Tamiya. A couple of years back I was given back my old monster beetle that I had sold to a friend just short of twenty years earlier, clearly I had to start restoring it which then lead to a re re Hornet for Christmas (my brother had one) and a re re fire dragon. Shortly after a house move a year or so ago I managed to bust my hornet chassis at the rear and as I have been mad busy with work and the new place I have not had time to re build her or play with the other two cars. I am guessing everything has been stood now for just over a year so my first question is the nimh battery, I have an Mtronics 3800 battery and before doing anything I thought I would ask the experts what the best course of action is before re charging? I am guessing it was not fully discharged last time I used it as the Hornet came back in bits so do I need to try and run it down or just stick it on charge? My charger is only a pro peak delta 3 so nothing fancy and does not have a discharge function. I have just picked up a team orion rocket pack 5100 from my local hobby shop just in case mine is stuffed but obviously it would be nice to have two. Also will the team orion battery come charged or will I need to charge it before use? Still as the bug has bitten again and its Christmas I have treated the Hornet to a new chassis (she could do with a body too really) so I am hoping to get her back on the road in the next week or two but the postman has also just delivered a Stadium blitzer so the hornet might have to wait My next questions are with regards to powering them all, last time I fitted a GT tuned motor to my hornet which went really well and an EZ run brushless to my fire dragon which tbh was just far to quick and really spoiled it for me as it was a struggle to get power down even on mini spike tyres and I damaged it far to quickly after it landed on its roof at high speed So I am thinking that I might pick up a sport tuned motor for the Hornet as even though it was a blast with the GT tuned I am slightly concerned at how quickly I bust the tub when the one we had years ago lasted for ages running a stock 540 or am I just unlucky? I might stick the GT tuned in the Blitzer for now and see how I go possibly fitting the EZ run if I feel its up to it later on which leaves the fire dragon, I want it to have a good turn of speed but still be controllable do we have any suggestions? Out of interest whats happened to 40mhz? two years ago I got an acoms techniplus and a couple of receivers but they do not seem to sell them now only the 27mhz. My vintage techniplus is on 27mhz which is in my monster beetle but I had wanted all of my new cars to run on my new handset, does it look like I will be running on 27 now as I would rather have the receivers already fitted in each car rather than keep swapping over. Also does anyone sell the stickers for the front of the vintage acoms controllers like the one in this link? http://www.tamiyaclub.com/getuserimage.asp?t=g&id=img1274_24112012151004_1_350.jpg Sorry for rambling on Andy

Guys, Not played with my fire dragon for ages, basically for two reasons. One is the Battery, I am on Nimh with an EZrun 9t brushless and it drains my Mtronics battery too quickly. Can anyone reccomend a good Nimh battery for the EZrun? Also I fitted some DF03 wheels as the stock dragon ones have no grip but the pin spike tyres I bought fly off the rims (non tamiya). Would the tamiya ones fit the wheels better? I really did not want to glue the tyres to the rims. These do feel a little slack tbh. Which tamiya ones would be the best? They seem to do two types. Thanks Andy

Agreed, although there was a slight case of not meeting your hero's for me. Not quite the drive I dreamed of. Still would love to own one though, I am very jelous. Off to look and perv at pictures

Well on the red exige theme here's mine, its a 57 plate 'S', its one of my dream cars, my fourth Lotus and I will not sell it I also have the red hitari exige. On track On the drive And the only time it will ever be seen without a roof, took the photo when fettling the air feed to the intercooler. I happen to know there is another exige owner on here too

Hello! are you following me?
-
Are you selling it after all that work? thats a really nice motor! Would take a little of the fun out of building mine though Have you any close up shots of the spoiler mounting please?
-
I take my hat off to you running a LB with an 8.5t EZrun! I have a 9t in my fire dragon and its mad The hornet I guess is about as stable as a LB and with a GT tuned motor mine is on its roof more than its wheels How long do you get from your 4000 battery btw? My Mtronics 3700 seems pretty poor, I think I'm getting about ten mins max.
-
Believe it or not I did that but could not see anything, I probably just missed it Did you get my pm btw? I had a couple of questions re your spoiler. Thanks Andy
-
Thanks for that Vince! What sort of out put would you reccomend for say 20 - 25 mins run time on a 9t ezrun? will I need the 4300? thanks Andy

Guys, I want to fit DF03 wheels on to my Fire dragon and I need the correct hex adapters, will the tamiya 53056 type do the trick or do I need something different? I see there are other brands on ebay but they all seem to state model types on them. Andy
-
Or will the tamiya 53056 ones do the trick?
-
Ok I just ordered some DF03 wheels off time tunnel and now I need some hex adaptors. Which type should I go for? I have seen the cheap ones on e-bay but they seem to be for different models. Will the ones for a DF03 do the trick? Andy

Well I just gave it its first test drive, only on my street but crikey its quick! when I use the GT tuned Hornet on the street I use about half of the length of the cul de sac, but this thing needed the hole street! The standard tyres are way to hard, on tarmac its like driving on glass! the car would spin for fun which at that speed made it entertaining The car however is very planted and stable, the grid on our street would make the hornet do a triple somersault and crash but the FD glides over it at double the speed. It also looks fab in red with bright yellow dampers So now its a quest for grip as I do like to take the car out on the rough stuff but its also nice to be able to just take it on the front for a quick play! Also what a difference in battery time, the hornet will do well over 30 mins with a good 15-20 at full power, the ezrun did about 5 or ten at full power and I need to run it down now. Think its time for a better battery! Boothy

Well here she is! just needs a driver and then its hop up time I must admit I like this car, I know its not to everyones taste but I really think its quite cool

Cheers Guys, Very helpful as always Vince, the judder is on light starts, if I punch it (Sounds like top gun ) there is no judder, I also tried a light start whilst holding the car in the air (no friction) and there is no judder. I tried to look at deans connectors but I could not really work out what I need or if what I was looking at would fit the thick battery leads? My missus would go spare if I went lipo now so I am sticking with nimh, plus its just bashing about for now really so nothing serious just yet. Have we any links to the correct deans connectors or the gold plated ones? cheers Andy
-
The judder does happen on light starts and not really if you push forwards harder on the stick, it is better with the punch turned down though. What is the difference with a sensorless system? Boothy

I have seen a couple of posts over judder when setting off with EZrun brushless systems and after setting mine up tonight I have found the same problem. My battery is an Mtronics 3700nimh type which I have not had for very long as I am a newbie. The thing is as I have just forked out for a non LIPO charger I really dont want to make everything I have redundant so I would rather stick with nimh for now. I would also really like to stick with tamiya connectors if possible, the ezrun came with a tamiya connector so I am guessing its up to the job? One thing I noticed with my current battery is it runs for ages but it will run for a good 15 mins at a reduced output, I read that this means the cells are not so great? So What sort of stick pack do people reccomend? I have seen the team orion rocket packs which look pretty nice, would a 4500 rocket pack run the ezrun without judder? And what are other 9t EZrun users running? cheers Boothy p.s. I have set the punch right down and still have a slight judder on start.
-
Ok I swapped the wires (risked it ) All runs normally now I have now found out my battery is pants though as it stutters on start so punch is now set to the lowest and I still get a slight stutter Time to invest in something better. Also where do people mount the on off switch? It wont go in the tamiya location but if I mount it in the car I wont get to it, so can it go on the out side of the tub? Boothy

Sorry guys I have just fitted my new EZrun 9t to my fire dragon and after quite alot of pondering over the setting up bleepy menu's I finally got there aside from one small problem... She runs backwards All the wireing is correct and the wires to the motor are colour coded so you should not be able to get that wrong however the trouble shooting just says to swap two of those wires round. So does that happen alot? Is there something I am missing? All the throttle ranges seem correct, the lights do as they should (ie red light then green at max) If I tap backwards on the stick once nothing (brake) if I tap back again the car goes forwards, if I push forwards once the car goes backwards. So I guess the question is, should I just swap two wires round between the esc and motor so they are no longer colour matched? I cant have the cable to the reciver the wrong way round can I? I am guessing that would not work at all. Cheers Andy

My thundershot never had a technigold fitted, pretty sure it was just a stock 540 from memory. Boothy

That looks like about as much fun as you can have with your pants on! I wish we had something like that round here. Boothy
