  1. I have done quite a lot today but lost a lot of time messing with the 84365 cva's (see thread in monster trucks)...

I did however do a third shock mod (quite impressed with myself) :D

    250F858F-7867-46B2-9BEA-59DC09A8690C_zps

I will put details on how I did this when I do my build thread.

Fitted the sport tuned motor and cva's to lunchie and got her up to here:-

And I took stadium blitzer out for the first time and it was great aside the nimh battery that did not last long (possibly as it's been stood a few weeks) I must get a proper charger.

I also found the disused children's park at the end of our street makes a pretty cool track and should be great when it dries out, was put in by the builders when they built the estate but the swings etc were removed by the council a few years back leaving a large grassy area with tarmac sections and a tarmac path perimeter :)

The grass is ever so slightly too long for buggy's at this time of year (hopefully the council will cut it) but the stadium blitzer really swallowed it up :D I think I'm going to build a ramp :D

  2. Wow, so I spent half of today messing with these along with doing a third shock mod and I am at a bit of a loss :(

It seems the spring rates are really weak and although they seem fine at the rear the front is a problem... They literally will not hold the front end up.

I have tried swapping out the springs for the original lunchbox ones but as they are longer I had to compress them and they were just to stiff, so I stole some from my holiday buggy rears as I am fitting cva's and ditching the friction dampers. They were ever so slightly to short so I fitted a spacer clip and they were ok once fitted...

The issue, aesthetics :D the springs have wider coils and just looked wrong against the rears, so I am back on the supplied (84365) springs with tension clips.

If I place the chassis down the shocks support the tub but if you press the tub down they only return about half way :S

I am thinking that when driving the front will lift naturally but I think it seems too soft for jumps and wheelies and will bottom out as soon as it comes down.

As this is my first lunchie are these the correct settings? The 84365 kit is the correct kit for the cw-01 chassis so I would of thought big T knew what they were doing but it seems far to soft to me.

So how do you guys have yours set? Any suggestions on springs if this is too soft?

    P.s 3rd shock makes a huge difference

  3. Guys, my 84365 cva short shock set arrived today which are clearly designed for the lunchbox as the instructions show fitting to a lunchie/MP chassis. In the instructions it suggests cutting the rubber tube to create two 10mm bump stops and fitting to the front shocks only.

However it does not show this in the actual lunchbox manual in the cva option section??

It does seem to significantly reduce the travel of the front shocks so I am slightly bothered by it. What have others done? I am guessing it helps the front end with jumps?

  4. Today is a good day :D I give you... Half a Brat :D

Sadly the postman saw fit to kick the s#*t out of it so the box is a mess but this eBay find off a fellow TC member will be my project for after the HB... Which is after the lunchbox ;)

Getting hold of a new brat rolling chassis just missing body's and esc was an opportunity I could not miss as I have a dream to build a baja bug runner and the brat is the perfect candidate.

  5. Well today I got my eBay shocks for my 3rd shock on my lunchie

And a package turned up from banzai :D

Overall shipment time to delivery was less than a week which is great considering the price I paid, it seems that for small things like motors it's a no brainer. Shame they did not have my shocks as I had to order of jazhobby on eBay and they are quoting a month :(

Still here's a photo of sport tuned motors to keep everyone happy ;)

  6. Hi Jez,

    Welcome :)

I am sure as others will point out once the bug bites it can get expensive :D I need to get to a clumber meet so may see you there.

A brushless MB sounds interesting, have you got any plans to improve the gearbox as I have a feeling the standard one wont last long

  7. Well I got cracking with my lunchbox, did quite a bit and got up to here:-

There will be a build thread to follow as I have been taking pictures as I go along, first thought is how much flex there is in the front of the tub. I think I can add a chassis brace using some of the left over A parts. Will just need to source some threaded rod from my LHS.

None of my hop ups have arrived so I will be taking it apart again to fit the third shock, cva's, sport tuned motor and chassis brace. Although I did get these :D

  8. Next question, the bracket people are using as a top mount for the third shock is the same as the ones for the oil filled shock upgrade top mounts looking at photos?

If so do you just have get hold of one off ebay? Looking at the kit I got six included which is just enough to do the oil damper upgrade, I will have a route but I do not think I have got any from other kits. Other than that any suggestions for top mounts?

  9. I can't believe we have got this far and nobody has said monster beetle.

I want them the re re it badly, sadly mine is lacking the gold wheels and I bought the wrong red (novice error) when I painted it so it's to bright. A re re would give me another shot at getting it right without spending the earth.... Again.

For me it's the one I lusted after as a kid (and eventually got). In box art red with the blingy gold wheels I just think it looks fab, the black foot and mud blaster have grown on me but I do not think they beat the MB for looks.

So based purely on looks if I could only have one tamiya buggy and one monster truck on my shelf would be an avante and monster beetle. I think the hot shot runs the avante a close second.

  10. I have spotted a couple of cheap shocks on the bay, which would be most suitable to use as a third shock?

The second set look a fair bit longer than just 5mm judging by the centres of the fixing holes, I doubt either are oil filled but I do not think thats really needed for the 3rd shock and these are black so should hide away better than ansmann. My main shocks are yellow cva's so I wanted this to blend away really.

  11. Yea as above, or open in Google Chrome and it will automatically translate for you :)

I had an issue with stock on an order I placed with them and they phoned me and spoke better English than the blokes that work in our factory - who mainly hail from Essex :P

Ahh I was looking on my ipad, just tried on chrome and all becomes clear :D

Unfortunately that could also be costly, lots of 'ooooh shiny' :D
