  1. [8D] Ok, just finshed putting a Grasshopper II together as a runner. I need some help in finishing the body. Any suggestions would be great. This is what I am looking at doing: [] 1. Gun Metal Wheels (G type), body painted in the Candy Lime 2. Gun Metal Wheels same, with Bright Blue What do you think? I am leaning more for the Candy Lime to match my Green Sand Scorcher.
  2. How do you fix the rain gutters on the Sand Scorchers, every original body has damaged rails. I have 2 shells that are primed and ready for paint, but I want to correct this!
  3. What is everyone thought on this? Got this from the bay, the body is in nice shape (Not perfect) The top has been painted gold (Old brushed on paint) It will clean up very well with Easy Off. My problem is that it retains the orginal decals on the unpainted sides of the vehicle. I would like to keep them as they are in good shape. The plastic has yellowed very slightly. The problem is that at some time in the cars life, someone had sanded the top of the fenders with 600 grit sand paper (No biggy), but there will be no way of shinning up the orginal white plastic. [V] So, shoud I remove the decals and paint the entire car? Or, could I remove the paint on the top of the car and redo it? I may need to paint the fenders also. Do you think this will look OK? Here is a pic of the body. http://www.tamiyaclub.com/getuserimage.asp...004223930_1.jpg You can see that the top is a bad gold colour. If I masked the area around the top and used Wax paper could that seal the Easy off from Damaging the decals? Does Easy off Damage Decals? [?] Ok if everything cleans up, what colour should I use as I can't go with the orginal combination? Regards
  4. Sorry, I was a little tired when I wrote the tread. I am currently using the Yellow can easy off. It will not cut into the FRESH tamiya paint. But your comments have helped, it appears that the shiney surface on the tamiya paint is the problem. The Easy off will not penetrate this coating. I have scuffed it up with 400 grit paper and it appears to be working. Compared to other paints on the market, the Tamiya paint is extremely durable. My cars have had 4 treatments at this time. I must have put alot of enamel on the cars to cover the black base. This is the next process: WHITE tamiya primer White tamiya paint base Lime Green tamiya highlight Tamiya Clear w/decals Hummm.. may need to speak with Chris
  5. I am having a problem removing fresh Tamiya paint off a Blitzer shell. Any clues? the enamel is fine to remove, but the laq is tough!
  6. Hi Matt Thanks for the advice! I will try it! Oh have you ever screwed a car up using tamiya paints? I have messed the one shell up so far using enamel and tamiya high lights. What is the best way to remove the old paint? Should I stick with Easy off? Brake fluid takes a long time! Regards
  7. What is the easiest way to do this?
  8. Ok thank for all the advise! I will try to go with priming the cars with Tamiya white primer and doing some light coats of the white to build up the colour. After all is said and done. I will paint the highlights in the lime green. My first attempt was a mess painting the base in enamel and the tamiya paint lifted the base white. I am assuming that the tamiya paint is a lacquer? If that is the case then the Tamiya white and green should not effect each other. Anyone try the new Tamiya clear with Pearl? []
  9. Anyone interested in a Canadian Meet? Somewhere in the GTA? We can have a small BBQ somewhere. I know 3 of you so far!
  10. Ok ,so I have been looking at painting 3 Blitzer shells for my Sand Scorchers. After hours of prep work and sanding all the flash and filling in all the sinks in the body. I spend 2 days thinking of colour combinations and art work. Came up with White with French blue (SS style). White with Beige (SR yellow and red). The other will be pearl white and pearl green. Here is the predicament: Blitzer shells are Black, I need a white base. I have painted allot of cars in the past, most colours spray very nice. Tamiya colours are great (Best in the business). But, Tamiya White is very transparent! It does not cover very well. So I looked at all the alternatives. Here is what I have found: White Paints Armour Coat: Covers well, nice finish, easy to spray with a nice fan, But! This is enamel paint, it took 2 weeks to dry and guess what! After 2 hours of masking (You know how long it takes for the SS). The French blue on the white reacted in (heavy painted areas) Like the top of the roof. I managed to repair this. Krylon Plastic Paint: Ok, this was made for plastic paint. At least this is what it said on the can. First light coat, I noticed that it reacted by melting into the mold marks on the body []. For me this is a bug No No! What happens is that every coat after will still show the biting into the body. [!] Even after I have a put the final heavy coat, after the paint settles it will show up. I am going to write a letter to Krylon and complain about the product. I would not recommend this paint. Plastic Coat: I want to try this one next, the challenge is finding the stuff. I used it in the past and it worked very well. I think I painted a big bear with this. Canadian Tire Paint (Or standard automotive paints). Not recommended. They melt into the plastic. Tamiya White: This paint is good, but doesn’t cover very well. [:0] I need something with a bit more mass. I would have to print all the bodies and make sure that the prime coat is as smooth as a final coat of paint. You need way to many coats for the correct look. Ok so does anyone have any experience with painting white? If so please let me know if there is any products that work best for white and that does not react to Tamiya paints. Thanks! [8)]
  11. Ok, I have a ton of cars and only a bunch of 1700 batteries... It is time to upgrade from my old hobby craft charger. Everytime I run my SS, it lasts a whole 2 mins. [:I] What does everyone recommend?
  12. Does anyone have the part number to the Willys Wheeler re-release? I also need the Lancia, Brat, and any other Re-release body sets. Many thks![?]
  13. Ok this is not a Tamiya,[] but possibly not even close to it.[V] I am looking for an RC car that I had as a child. [] Mid 70's to early 80's vintage. It looked like a radio shack type car. You had to put double AA's in the bottom, the controller was grey in colour and was a basic stick. The box (As I try to remember) was light blue in colour and the car sat in the center of it. (foam core). Now for the car... It was a 1/10 or 1/12 scale 935 Porsche (Looked like the Tamiya Martini 935 turbo) The top and bottom where molded as one and it had Tamiya type tires with the same wheel pattern. It had a similar bumper as the Vintage kits. The kit cost around $120 Canadian at the time. The colour of the car was red with white racing numbers and some other decals...[8)] It has a 380 motor and similar gears. I have looked on Ebay but can't find it. I don't have a picture of the car either. if anyone could even get me a name I could look on the net. Please help!!![]
  14. Hey guys, any one know where I can get a set og 959 Rally block tires and wheels? I bought a set from a local hobby dealer and they only fit the current tire sizes on the market..[:0] Plus any one know what bodies fit this chassis?
  15. Hi guys Thanks for the feedback, I guess it really is a luck of the draw. Everyone uses some tactics that may work, or not. I lucked out last week and scored a mint frog, so I am happy now. I also won a $156 bid and got 3 hornet and a blackfoot, and enough parts to build a few more... So I am content! Cheers!!![]
  16. Hey people! I am having a little bit of an issue with "Tamiya Collectors" bidding against each other on e-bay. My main problem is the people that are "new" to ebay and the hobby really kind of screw up the bid process on stuff that is really an ok deal. I do stress OK. As you are aware most ebayed RC cars are really trashed by the time they are auctioned off. I was bidding on 4 Hornets, an nothing but random people where bidding causing the $ to become stupid. So I ended up with one. I generally email people that have placed multiple bids on a piece. That just means they have some intentions for the car. ie: collectors. If it is a collector, I know that most of you are not going to pay over $100 U.S. for a trashed car. But last night, man the bids where hitting $150 U.S. for last second bids... for a Hornet.. I don't think so!!! Anyways... I am just ticked at this time because everyone has a $ they would pay for an older R/C, the worest part was the fact that I waited till the lst 5 put my bid down, thinking it would be alright and 2 other guys bid $50 more??? Don't understand.[]
