  1. I have the old tranny in my RC10 and want to use a 48 pitch spur instead of the original 32 pitch. Could anyone tell me what size 48 pitch spur replaces the original 32? I could use some pinion recommendations as well, I'm running a green machine stock motor if it helps...
  2. Not sure if this article has been mentioned before http://www.tamiyausa.com/articles/feature.php?article-id=135 but it seems as though Tamiya is aware of the growing popularity of TLT based crawlers. I wonder if 1/10 scale, designed for purpose crawler is in the works?
  3. quote:traxxas trx-1....what was going on with that body..the most shapeless lump of lexan ever to disgrace an rc car, loooks like someone melted a coke bottle onto it hehe. id="quote">id="quote">The TRX-1 body looks like a cylon fighter from the new battlestar galactica! did the old series fighter looked the same? If so, then I know were the designer got his inspiration...
  4. Its not a doll, its an action figure []
  5. I bought mine on ebay from a seller named (surprise, surprise) 'rccarbearing'. I'm not sure tamiya ever used these bearing sizes on their cars.
  6. to completly ballrace the ninja you'll need the following bearings: 10mm OD, 6mm ID, 3mm Width (8 Total) 8mm OD, 4mm ID, 3mm Width (14 Total) hth
  7. So when exactly is the model show ( quote:http://www.tamiya.com/english/hobbyshow/index.htmid="quote">id="quote">) scheduled to open? I'm sure an hour after the doors open we'll have mighty frog pics flying around the net...
  8. I agree, shame its not 1/10th scale and electric... Seriously though, how big a market is there for these kind of cars that can justify the big r&d investment? I mean, they couldn't use any off-the-shelf parts on this one. I guess they can always compensate by charging more for the car...
  9. quote:Any chance you could send me some photos of the gear you made? id="quote">id="quote"> Massimo, if possible, please publish photos on the forum as I'm interested as well in this modification
  10. quote: Originally posted by Floyd Sure they can still make it , they'll just take all the Ford markings off it like they did with the Clod's Chevy body ..... id="quote">id="quote"> They actually did that with the super blackfoot body- same as the original blackfoot but without the ford logo.
  11. quote:It will be intereting to see if the final version of the re-release will have the same gearbox....as they were testing a variant. id="quote">id="quote">Darryn, what did you mean by that? do you know of a new Frog prototype gearbox R&D??
  12. Excellent!! will buy one for sure! also, finally i won't have to worry about stripping my runner hex shafts... I do hope tamiya won't go 100% original with this one and will supply the rerelease with a redesigned diff.
  13. I have the xrs and am very pleased with it. I think its the best esc at this price range.
  14. quote: Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for some kyosho wheels, does anyone know what the wheels used in the works astute article? http://www.tamiyaclub.com/article.asp?id=94id="quote">id="quote">these look to me like wild one wheels (which are 2.1" and some change in diameter)
  15. just noticed this one at the kyosho site: http://www.kyosho.co.jp/web/about/rccar_history01-e.html makes an interesting reading.
  16. acorn, the frog tires also have the two grooves (as can be seen here: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=35919&id=34) and thats where the three piece wheel pinches the tire. As for the tire being distorted, I understand your point, but believe it should be checked (maybe by a member who has an RC18T and a three piece wheel). My point is that the recent increasing popularity of 1/18 can play in our (=classic tamiya fans) favour for getting interesting tire threads. As for your comment about my user name (sorry for the off topic everyone..): This film was one of my favorites as a kid as well (hence my user name). A couple of years ago I saw a documentry about the making of Escape From NY and was amazed at the primitive methods John Carpenter used to make the (convincing) special effects. I highly recommand watching it if you can locate it.
  17. I remeber the version with the battery and charger being offered back in 1989, but am not sure about the reason. My best guess is that tamiya tried to push the (not so good) sales of the wild ones. If I remember correctly the included battery was the 6V (probably trying to kill two birds with one rock, tamiya tried to get rid of the 6V stock as everyone were already running the 7.2V at the time)
  18. I just noticed that the rc18t inside tire diameter is 1.45''(http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXJHP4&P=V), which is very close to the frog/hornet/sand scorcher 1.5'' tires. Has anyone ever tried to mount these or similar after market tires on tamiya wheels?? What about the Losi mini-t tires? they have some really cool designs, like the paddle track etc. While I'm on the subject, what about Duratrax mini quake 1.9'' inside diameter tires (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJAG3&P=ML) on hotshot/wildone rims for some really low profile off road tires..
  19. HenterZero, thanks for your comment. It was actually your supershot review that helped me identify the car as a knockoff, sorry for not mentioning it in my original post. DJTheo, if you were referring to me about the manual, sorry, I didn't get one with the car. I'm still not sure if I made a good deal with this car. I guess I'll know for sure after I'll open her up and examin the parts quality/compatibility with tamiya more closely. as for part fit tolerances- I'm not too concerned about that since the original hotshot had similar problems as well (mainly in the suspension). My only hope is the transmission will be ok and won't shred the gears to pieces... Again if someone could comment on that I'll be gratefull..
  20. picked up a supershot imitation yesterday, apparently it is a chinese copy, that was produced back in the day due to the popularity of the 'shot series. The car is used but in very good condition, and I'm still contemplating what to do with it. I was wondering if tamiya parts are interchangeable with this car since externally it looks the same as a genuine Supershot (as a matter of fact, if I didn't know what to look for it would have taken me a long time to find out it is not a tamiya). If so, it could be a cheap solution for my hotshot runner dream. If anyone know anything about these knockoffs I would greatly appreciate the input. Also, does anyone have any idea how much this thing can fetch on ebay??
  21. anyone knows what size tires fit on samurai wheels? will hotshot or optima tires fit??
  22. night owl, what modifications did you do to the avante diff??
  23. I prefer pro line dirt paw for off road http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...=29743&sid=1147, They also wear slowly as long as you stay away from blacktop.
  24. T.C~Tamiya: were do you buy the glycerine?
  25. The King Cab is a fine truck that jumps really well. I never experienced problems with the diff but I only used stock motors for it (which I believe are enough for a basher). The chassis seems to be a bit sensitive at the bellcrank attachment point. I already broke one and the replacement chassis shows signs of stress at that area as well. One of its main advantages over the current tamiya trucks are its long dampers (current tamiya trucks are supplied with the mini cva's) which contribute to some serious suspension travel - very helpful after a big jump..
