  1. Sheer fun of it have to give a nod to the 959 too. I have a runner and its fun to play around with thing handles better than alot of even the new stuff out today that I have driven and played with. I think prob one the best balanced cars built period and has nice low COG. Far as the arms I am going spring for the Teambluegroove stuff sooner or later. Got few projects going on just havent gotten around to do it just yet. Still like to see one day bunch guys with 959s get together and race them.
  2. I know this isnt Tamiya but sure some of you here done some box resto things. Never had one of these when I was a deprieved child saw this one on EBAY and snatched it up. Wast NIB but in very nice condition.I know have the urge to play with it a little so I didnt get a NIB for that reason. I remember my friends back in the day seeming tad more zippy maybe just the fog of 30 something years I guess. Like that childhood slide that seemed to be 100 feet tall go see later on as adult its only 6 or 7 feet tall.
  3. Prob wouldnt be able to get some from the states in time but may want to look for it. BAD HORSIE axle gease. http://www.badhorsie.com/products/diff-lock-grease.html I its very heavy grease that was extremely thick. I used it before to temp lock diffs in clod axles. Cant get your hands on that might want try some SILLY PUDDY stuff kids play with that is what its call in the US not sure what would be called in UK. Works alright not as good as locked diffs. Broke down one day just WB Welded the diffs in the clod.
  4. Speaking from my experiece with the 1/24 Monogram and Revell models that I used to do all the time. The most important part the whole process is to use a real high quality brush. I used to hand paint all the little chorme trim door hands and deocoractions on these tiny suckers using freehand with a brush. Dont try to do it all at one time. Miss some part of an area wait for the first coat to dry then come back to it. Bet could do a very good job on hard shell like that from all the 1/24 models I built and the past. LEXAN I can't seem to get right.
  5. Agreeed rear suspension period I think is the weak link. I had C PART break on my shelf queen just sitting in the box. From what seen and heard think teambluegroove stuff is very wise investment for a runner. The orginals can be at time bit rare to find for replacements. Run the alum and still be careful with it to not tear up trannie cases. Its what I am planning on doing when I get my runner project going. Teambleugroove has said ran his pretty hard with the alum parts has no trouble with breakage. I wonder too at times what wheels or tire have been know to work on the 959. Stockers are cool but expensive or rare to find if you need a set for a runner. Price of set tires can get two or three sets of something not so rare. I have couple sets of runner tires already but be honest rather not mess them up myself.
  6. Its going under glass soon I take it out the shipping pakaging. I may drool over it a few minutes but after that its going under glass.
  7. I experiecnce good and the bad when people ask questions about things. Typical how much its worth and can I drive. Generally just try to take it as it goes too try to keep good attitude about it. Think the wildest or best reaction was at the local skate park we have here in Louisville. I drove past it a time or two and got the bug to do something. There is a 24 foot full pipe at the skate part. Figure I have to go early in the morning to try what I had in mind less people around. Took my Nitro Rustler out to the park. This is not exactly a stock truck either. I have nicknamed it THE MISSLE. It has a Nova Mega SX-15 EVO4 MS engine in it and every RD Racing part made. For thoose not familar with it this was the top the line racing 15s few years back in Serpents. I got it cheap off a freind and for laughs shoe horned it in the Rustler. I say a fair estimate I have 2500 US in that truck. Well anyway with what had in mind went out in the middle of the night 1 am to try it. There still must have been about 250 or more people hanging around. Went to the full pipe with Rustler starter box and all. Fired her her up started to play around a little. Needless to say very limited traction in most the park concrete is very smooth. I wasnt there for that really. I got over to the full pipe and started to drive up and down the sides of the pipe gettting a rythem to it. Did that for bit toook one last look at her before I went for it. By this time everybody in park gathered around the full pipe to watch me. I was drving it back and forth testing traction finally went for it. I drove the Rustler around the full pipe 7 complete times without it crashing. I think just about every living soul at the skate park was watching and the roar they let out when I did that was awesome. Something I wont forget to hear that many people cheeering for you because of your TOY truck. Then its all teenagers and skaters too so not like a group thats easily impressed. I got a reaction out them like they just saw Tony Hawk do the 900 or something. I keep saying to myself I need to go back and film it. I know whats going to happen too wind up with big pile of twisted up parts too. I have included a pic I found of the pipe and one of my dirty toy. The Rustler needs a bath and tear down bad.
  8. I just got these in the email Friday from my painter. I figured I might share them with you all. Not sure when I am getting it back but was extremely pleased when I saw these. FYI people who dont remember this from before the stripes on this body are painted not decals.
  9. You got it orginally back in the day built it as a kid cant put value on that. Was the first person that built it and owned it. Personal reasons and nastalga value hard to put price on. Prob be very expensive to make it a shelf queen. Saying it was already ran prettty hard guess it got most hte usual battle scars. Wont ruin the value any to go ahead and keep running it. I would personal not get orginal resistor and such for the price I paid for the orginal MSC for my shelf queen could have gotten a good ESC. Far as i seen a complete decent runner ready to go just had to charge batts for it go for about 300 us dollars. Hard to judge any of this without seeeing pics of yours.
  10. I went looking at my two manuals after this sure enough one shows the reinforced parts the other one doesnt. I didnt notcied that before till you mentioned it.
  11. Value not based on availbilty its more about popularity of the model makes 959 worth more than Celicas. Celicas I seen arent fetching as much as 959s would. I know am more biased for the Porsche but thats the one I wanted back in 80s when it first came out. Its the one people remember and want from back then. Theres higher demand and higher prices for it. Heard somewhere before they printed twice as many Micky Mantle rookie cards than anybody elses that year but yet its still worth a small fortune compared to the others. It not the amount of spares or rarity its the demand for the car the makes it more valuable. I know the GRB had center diff stabilizer bar and other improvments make it better car but its not the 959. Figure GRB would be worth more but it isnt doesnt have the Porsche name attachted to it and the collectabilty of something with that name. Also has the prestige of the real Paris Dakar rally car adds to the demand for it also. Why you think a set of Rothmans decals are worth 30 0r 40 US more than the Racing ones. Always see set of Rothmans decals on ebay but at times no Racing ones. Its the other factors other than availbilty of parts that make a 959 worth more than a GRB.
  12. Main thing to tell Celica is where the resistor mounts. On Celicas the mount on the left side behind the front body mount. On the 959 it fits in the front bumper. Here are some pics of a 959 I know thats not been molested. My shelf queen. This link is to older post where I posted some pics of it. I spent alot time on this one with one goal in mind. I want to make mine a pristine example of a 959. Shouldnt be too hard to figure it was Celica or 959 could see pics of ypur the car. I havent seen any fake 959s but bet there were people that got scammed. Take a Celica and add some 959 bits and try to pass it off as a 959. 959s are worth more than the Celicas. Especailly not sure what too look for before you buy it could get scammed. Sure 100 people on ebay will look at it and know its fake but the 101 person that dont know any better will buy it. I have never really seen a fake 959 yet but heard that was done before. http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?...c=45713&hl=
  13. That is the fold over I am talking about. Cant for the life me figure why it didnt have holes in it already. I seen numerous new ones on ebay and such they all had the holes predrilled even the instructions show them to be there from the factory.
  14. Look at the runner body and how the body folds under in the rear bumper area. That fold can only be made by blow molding which they did with the orginal. Not talking about where the body line is cut out which you have traced in the pic. Its how it tucks under itself around the bottom edge.
  15. Wanted to add this had to see if there was one listed on ebay. Even the latest and greatest repo from Teambluegroove does not have the folding of the body in the rear bumper area. Front on their new one is pretty much dead on when compared to the orgianal from what I heard. The rear bumper area and how the orginaly folds under is the main way to tell the two apart. If you look on ebay they have pics of it and look how the area around the bumper is does not tuck under like the orginal but it has the lights also. It is a very nice repo the best one available from what I understand but its not an orginal body. Would it be possible to see some pics of the body you are talking about. Has no holes its not even a the teambluegroove one I am thinking about that one comes with body mount holes in it.
