  1. Hi there. The Hilux High-Lift has the same roll bar. And it also has the lights, but sadly not the BL decals. The chrome of the High-Lift roll bars and chromes is smoked, but you can easily remove the dark off it with acetone or nail polish remover. So it is really the same, and best of all, for less money than the Mountaineer's. Goodluck with the search! EB --

  4. Actually, I have no interest in the TXT-1 or the Juggernaut at all, but I wouldn't consider my life complete if I never get me a blonde broad and a 1987 Clod Buster or a Bull Head!

  6. Hey Y'all, I just scored a Super Champ today. Very nice model. Anyway, I have this Beetle body laying somewhere and want to make a "Super Scorcher" runner as I see some fellows in here like to call it. Question is, seemingly, the body clip is the same for both models (please correct me if I'm wrong!) and I would only need a longer front body post, right? If so, I'll start searching for one of those. I hope some Scorcher/Champ owner can shed some light about this. So I thank you in advance! Y'all have a great weekend! EB --
  7. Mmmm... The Tailgate Toyota sign is another thing that raises more questions. If you look at all of the other Toyota pick-ups of the late 70's, none has a logo like the one in the back of the Tamiya version. I mean the Toyota sign is OK, but not the rectangle where it's placed over.
  8. Hey there, I was wondering about this. Here where I live I've never seen a 1981 Hilux with a setpside bed like the Tamiya one. I got curious and asked my father to see some pictures of this truck and tell me if he ever saw one of these. My father, he worked with cars all his life. He represented Champion spark plugs and Borg/Warner clutch stuff for about 30 years in here, so I thought he'd have an answer, but he didn't. I looked at the old Toyota brochures and searched the Internet for at least one picture to see if the Tamiya pick-up truck really existed but nothing. Now question is to y'all. Is there anybody out there to confirm the existence of a 1:1 Toyota 4x4 pick-up like the one Tamiya released back in 1981??? Cheers and goodnight y'all! EB --

  10. If you like doing wheelies, jumping and GOOD looks, then the Midnight Pumpkin is the right one for you. The Pumpkin was my first love. Never dissapointed me. Everytime I put the batteries on it and turn it on there is a grin on my face. I now have six different Tamiya models, but no matter what, I always come back to what was my first love, the Midnight Pumpkin.

  12. Hey y'all, I thank you all for the nice comments on my "Liftaineer" project. Reply to Stuart (Swarm): I used the stock differential covers, so that is not my paint work. And by the way, my camera can't capture the real color of this one. This is what we call in here "Toyota blue", much darker than what you see in the pictures above. Reply to gt6++: "What wheel rims are those? They look perfect": Actually I have no idea what rims are these. I got the four rims + two Bruiser tires for $3 USD on an eBay BIN a couple of months ago. It was a white pair with Bruiser tires mounted and another pair of wheels (the same) but in yellow color. I noticed they were 2.2 with 12 mm Hex drives and immediately clicked on buy it now. I asked in the LHS what was the best paint to make all four match. I wanted to paint them white, and the guy mentioned a thing I have never heard of before, "Lustre Kote". This is a thick milky white primer. It is virtually indestructible -no way to go back once you paint a surface. So it was the perfect thing for my wheels, and now none can tell they are of different color. They look as if they're new and originally white. Anyway, I been working on the workshop most of the afternoon today. I made a pair of metal mounts for the definitive bumper for this truck. They bolted easily on four unused holes right under the front part of the metal frame, so it's strong enough and resistent. So that's it -what you see in the pictures is the last touch in my finished project. Yes, I believe it's the only bumper that will ever do with the 1979 Hilux SR-5. What else can I say...   14. Ha, ha, ha, ha... Actually, I restarted my Tamiya thing after cutting with Karin, last January. Hot broad indeed, but couldn't help the thought of how many nice trucks I could have got with all the money that went to badword with her.
  15. My father had the real thing but sold it about ten years ago. It was orange though. I would love to buy the model, but I believe these retail to a rather high price considering these don't have three-speed gear boxes like the High-Lift or the King Hauler.
  16. A fellow TC member posted somwhere that if you use nail polish remover you can remove the dark of the chrome and leave it as the original silver chrome. That way you don't need to paint it at all. I think I will do it sometime, but first I need to find someone to go and buy that for me. I wonder how many of you would go to the broad's store and ask for such thing saying that itreally is for your model truck?

  18. The original Clod Buster doesn't have an option to lock the differential, so that is a modification. Anyway, the extra axles are not locked but they don't have the motor, am I right?? Do you have the pinions for them?

  20. Sorry to say, the only Tamiya parts I can identify in the picture are the wheels, tires, and the suspension bars. Shocks, body and chassis are not Tamiya. If you upload a picture of the axles, then I can tell you if the axles are the Clod Buster's or not. A picture of the extra parts it came with would be of help too. Cheers, EB --
  21. Hiya Jim. 01. Yours is not the original Clod Buster chassis. The original is shorter, and is molded in black plastic. Probably not better than the one you already have though. 02. Your truck has four shocks because that's not the original chassis. The original has the option of using 8 shocks. But, if you care at all, 8 shocks doesn't do much because most of the weight is already placed right over the axles. So having 8 shocks instead of four is mostly something aestethic. 03. Try the Illinois word-famous "Clod Junkyard". They have everything and, best of all, they sell by parts and are very cheap. 04. (...) 05. The original stock Clod Buster doesn't have the option of using the front steering only. Just like the mid 80's real Monster Trucks the Clod Buster is 4x4x4, that means four wheel drive + four wheel steering. Good luck with the resto and PLEASE post pictures of the proccess!   23. Hiya Jim! How're you doing. Thanks for the positive comment. I would love to do the tailgate but I'm a bit unsure of my painting skills. I had to paint the bed two times because of the effects a deffective Testors spray can and it was such a *****y work, I don't think I'll paint another model again.   24. (I don't have a showroom to post this one...) Hey everyone, Well, After two months my Tamiya Toyota Hilux High-Lift is finished and ready to hit the dirt! I'm now only in need of a 27Mhz Xtal set to get it going. Basically, this is an all-stock Hilux High-Lift model truck except for the 2.2 wheels and 1985 Bruiser all-terrain tires. I tried to follow the Hilux SR-5 original paint scheme that's in the 1979 Toyota brochure/catalogue, but used two stripes over the hood instead of just one. The decals are the legendary Californian Autographic stripe sets from 1987. I made it to look like an early 80's Californian Mudbog truck. The axles of the Hilux are so big they look just like the 2-ton military axles used by the early monster Trucks in the late 70's, when Big Foot, USA-1, and King Kong were using 48 inchers. Some of you might think of it as a "Mounty wannabe", well guys, you're RIGHT. Still, as much as I love the old models, what I like the most in this High-Lift model is the lenght of the axles. I never understood why the Mountaineer truck had a noticeable longer axle in the rear. So this is my Tamiya Toyota Hilux SR-5 "Liftaineer". Whatever it is, let me know what you all think.   25. For some reason I built the surf board today. I guess I was somewhat bored and thought it might surprise me if seeing it ready. It did not, tho. Am I the only one who thinks this is one of the stupidest features of the Toyota High-Lift. Well, OK, perhaps them tiny wheels are silly. But what do y'all honestly think of the surf board?
