I was obviously inspired by the 1985 Rollin' Thunder monster truck. But that's just because I did not have the means to do it all the way, unfortunately.

Heck, I didn't notice until now the sponsor decals! They're in no way worst than the stuff Tamiya's been putting out since 1991...

Yesterday I come across this "Fox" at the Fleamarket. I did not buy it but I still couldn't help to take a picture of it with the cellphone.
And last Wednesday a lil action with some friends and some Porsches, too.
The onroaders belong to my buddy Ian and his daugther [@tatamiyarc on IG].
Y'all stay safe and have a good Tuesday!

Last Wednesday I had the exact same problem but it was a late 80's Futaba ESC coupled with an early 90's AM-75 receiver of the same well loved brand. So I am commenting here to be if there is anybody able to help with ideas or experience on how to fix the problem.

I use a wood tea stirrer to flatten down the edges . Use the tape to mask the edges then use newspaper to cover the rest of the bulk . Small details like the arms etc can be covered with the Tamiya tape only in tight layers
Yes, Kev. That's definitely something to keep in mind if you go for a perfect paintjob. By the way, what a LOVELY Holiday Buggy!
The other stuff i like a lot is Humbrol's MASKOL. Once you get used to it you will be able to avoid using masking tape on curved surfaces plus it works super good.

Back in the day I used to spray enamel over the silvercans. What I dislike a lot about the new ones is the silver endbell. Looks super tacky on some cars imho.

I have bought the paints and masking tape but not sure in what order to do things. I have never done this before, and using masking tape is new to me.
For the cockpit, what is best to do first? mask of the body and arms with tape, then spray with TS-6 Matt Black? Or paint the whole thing black. Will the acrylic paint cover well on the black then?
Same thing with the Jerry cans. If I paint them all green, then put the tape around the leather straps, will I not tear off the green paint when removing the tape?
What brushes would be the best? Pointed or square heads?
Do I need thinner like X-20?
Greatly appreciated if anyone could help med out
Happy new year!
Hi there Jorgen,
I'll tell you how I've done that in the past (cockpit). You paint the arms and the tshirt first. No need to make a perfect job on the borders at this point because after doing so you will have the chance to perfect those borders with a brush and a lil matt black. That makes a perfect line and looks nice. Once all dry you can mask with tape and a piece of newspaper the driver's arms and chest, and then you fill the matt black with a brush. It isn't complicated at all. I prefer the square brush for this job, the pointy one works better for real small detail (like the eyes of the driver).
The masking tape AND the enamels you bought for your build are the absolutely best stuff money can buy so I would be extremely surprised if you ever get to tear any paint. Just be sure to remove the tape before the paint dries completely.
Oh, and you don't need thinner, unless you use an airbrush.
Good luck with your Holiday Buggy, and don't forget to share pictures of it once ready

Oh, the truck is not mine. It was built by a talented guy somewhere in the States about a decade ago, if my memory doesn't fail.

Why don't you try a Subaru Brat? You can make it look any way you want and the Frog chassis is very fun to run, too.
Merry Christmas y'all !!

Had Friday off work, and my wife and I have been wanting to check out the aquarium and conservatory on Belle Isle, so we took a little day trip out there. She snuck a pic of me blasting around on the beach afterwards trying (not) to scare the swans away.
Had a lot of fun jumping the dunes, but I cut it a bit short because a grain of sand got stuck fast in one of the gear teeth. I pulled the gearbox when we got home, and I'm not sure why I did that because it was an external gear and I wouldn't have had to remove the gearbox at all But... while it was out.... I cracked it open and repacked the diff with grease. And took about 5mm of spacing out of the rear damper springs when I put it all back together.
Then last night, we walked around the neighborhood looking at xmas lights, and it's a good thing we had the truck's LEDs to light our way, because it saved us from stepping in some big puddles! And it was nice seeing where the giant concrete cracks and heaves were, so we didn't trip over them (no streetlights here).
Finally today we had an errand to run a few towns over, so I grabbed it again and we stopped along the way to explore somewhere new. Had a nice long walk on some crunchy icy slick snow-covered trails down by a lake, and the truck was right with us the whole way. Softening the rear suspension in combination with the additional weight of the light kit, etc. gave it a lot more traction, and balanced it out better so it can climb steeper grades and looser surfaces.
But I did find time to paint the tire letters while it was in the garage. Everything looks better with tire letters IMHO even this crusty old turd
Thanks for sharing these pictures here. I always had a soft spot for the Sledgehammer. It was named the car of the year in RCCA back in... 1990 or 1991? I once had a Hawk but it just wasn't a Sledgehammer. Hopefully someday I'll come across one of those sweet Traxxas chevys

Not because it portrays 8 yr old me (apparently Batman was the thing 🤣) but because... look at the bottom right! A glimpse of my Kyosho Big Boss, looking so young back then 😁 maybe I'll be lucky and find better ones, I'd love that
Good old 1989 !!!

I just LOVE the wheel/tire combination you have on your Bruiser truck. I like white wheel for off roaders (and chrome for onroaders instead). Also, those IMEX mud tires look spot on!

You definitely don't like the car. And while I am not going to call it pretty, the Frog can be made to look better -just like you said.
I did not wanted to mess the original chassis, but I changed tires and found some fantastic paintscheme to make the car look more like my type of buggy. I know you can certainly work the car to meet your tastes, Max!
And if for any reason your customizing work doesn't do, then you can always put your Frog beside a Falcon on your car shelf -you'll see there is no easier way to make the car look gorgeous!

Be sure to check my buddy Ian's IG @tatamiyarc he's got great custom work of the sort.
Presidential election here today. I voted as early as possible so I could have some time to do some stuff and relax (while these guys here are leading us to some unsophisticated type of XXIth century communist regime, oh well) so I'm working on the Bruiser cab again. As you can see I got done some friction weld with some old ABS Tamiya tree to fill a hole in it. It worked out nice fortunately. Still more to do, though. Here's some pictures.
Removed mold lines then done some sanding. A must for anybody working vintage bodies.
Still lots to do. I'll share a couple more pictures later.
Y'all have a good one!

We went out tonight for a lil RC action.
I was so tempted to push the throttle stick forward alright!
The Corvette rolled once real slow, it was funny! Fortunately that did not bother the orig lexan body.
Y'all have a good Thursday!

Looks like that's the size of the hex on the inside, 12mm. The outside nut is the same as the large socket on the Tamiya box wrench, 7mm?
1.55" beadlock wheels. The tires came with the kit.
Great stuff!

I was talking about early 80's.
