  1. Did you notice in the pic's that the Tamiya RC is not quite a 1.10 representation. Look at the length of the bed, wheelarch from the cab and rear of the wheelarch to the rear bumper.

Actually, I think the 4x4 Hi-Lux came in two versions, one with a shorter bed as well. That is probably the model that Tamiya come up with. Oh, by the way, I remember other post somewhere saying that the actual scale size of the Toyota High-Lift was really a 1:9 and the F-350 High-Lift was really a 1:11. That explains the diff scale look when you have these trucks running side by side.

    Have a nice Monday.

  2. I'm going to buy a Hi Lift kit (my first) to build whilst i'm off work and like a lot of people, I feel the 1.9" wheels and standard tyres are just not big enough.

    Hi Fraser!

If you're going to use larger wheels on a F-350 you'll need to modify it. But if your High-Lift is a Toyota then you only need 2.2 hex-drive wheels and a nice set of tires of your choice.

Anyway, pictures of my truck (not yet finished) including a 1:1 comparison you can see them at:

    Have a nice day!

  3. This is my daughters one...

Nice results! Did you have modify something to fit them scorcher wheels on it?

I had lots of fun browsing thru your showroom. I absolutely LOVED the tube-structures you did for the scorchers and buggies. I have one MadCap without body and was wondering how to shape alloy tubes to work a body for it.

  4. If any of you guys who lives outside of these three countries can chime in with input on how paypal works for you guys it would be greatly appreciated. :)

    Hi there,
I live far away in Chile, a poor country in South America. I'm verified and I haven't had any problems with the Paypal service. Actually, I think it's great.
    Cheers
  5. Well, I still haven't got the d*mn loctite required to get all of them small lights and mufflers done, but all of the other stuff it's ready.

This is how my truck looks now (the camera can't capture the true tone of the blue I used) and, if you look at the left corner below, you'll see a nice 1.1 Hilux for a side by side comparison.

    Y'All have a great 1st of May!

  6. Like willy chang said i use a traxxas tq 3 transmitter with th 2 way switch changed to a 3 way toggle ideal for the job. I just bought a second hand one off ebay for 2 the toggle switch cost me 1.50. You cant possibly do it cheaper without stealing.

You're right, Jeffy. That Traxxas seems to be the only way out. BUT to me, all my life it 's been Tamiya + Futaba stick radios. Anything else just doesn't feel right. But then again, you're right. That one's a good option to the $175 USD shipped Futaba radio.

  7. you don't have to buy Tamiya 302, there's always the Futaba MC330R or Novak XRS which should handle it just as well - might even run a 19t in there

what i'm wondering is... in a truck with the MFU fitted (which doesn't drive anything hotter than 540),

is there enough room to put an ESC as well - run it off CH2 with a Y-cable...

    Hiya Willy,

Well, the abovementioned review said the Tamiya 302 had much better brakes than the Futaba 330. It's cheaper too. So I think I'll go for the Tamiya.

BTW, I've just made a vid of the proccess of receiving-building-painting the High Lift. Two nights works in only a minute and a half! See it here:

Godnight and Thanks to eveyone here!

  8. You do know what happens when the drive battery runs down (if you are not using a separate RX pack) when you have an MSC, right?

Sorry but I had to ask.

PS please don't think I am trying to be a smart a**, I just wondered about the logic of leaving an MSC in an expensive truck with a fragile body?

Actually, I was reading your TEU-302BK ESC review last night. About my experience with MSC: I have had a runner Pumpkin with an MSC for more than 15 years and never had problems like them crushes you mention. The truck would go in circles when the batt runs down -it doens't respond to the Transmitter no more. But still, there was this five-or-sixty USD doubt I have. I also have a BlackFoot with an Associated ESC. I just don't see no better performance rather than the battery lasts longer. To be honest, if I had someone wanting to pay half the cost of the ESC I would take that and just go back to the MSC.

Still, I got an ESC for the Monster Beetle I been working on the last months. All that thing about programming and such. I hate it. Back in the day, it was all about mechanics, now the thing is half or more about electronics. Just like full size cars. there was a time you could fix and tune them in your own garage, now you need analyzers and stuff. What a world...

Anyway, OK. I think I'll go for the ESC you reviewed. I see me again asking for some tips on installing the darn ESC here in the forum by the time I get it -I hope you don't mind helping me again :-)

    You have a nice week!

  9. Nope. This has nothing to do with beign reminiscent but more with the USD $60 I would save by using an MSC rather than the manual-required-super-special-made-for-Tamiya-only ESC!

Still, is there any technical issue in the practical use of a regular Tamiya MSC on a High Lift truck?

Anybody in the know or should I just try it myself? You see I don't want to make any mods in the chassis before being sure it will work...

    Cheers!

  10. Hey fellas.

I finally got the High Lift last Monday. It's almost ready -only missing the cosmetic bits (see pic). Anyway, one thing that's been on my mind lately is, I know the Bruiser used a regular MSC and had a much bigger motor and battery than the regular Hilux High lift. Well, since there is plenty of space to use in between the body and the frame of the truck I was wondering what if I use a third servo and a regular Tamiya MSC for this one??? What would you say? I have two other trucks with ESCs (BF, MB) but I always liked the simplicity of MSCs the better. If anybody in the know, please help.

    Y'All have a great Sunday!

  11. Wow! And I thought I was spending big...

Anyway, I think one that has serious chances to go up as high as the Willy is the NIB Bruiser that's running up to $2225 (and there are still three days of pushing! )

    Cheers,

  12. The Hilux is, to my taste, much better looking than the F-350. The Hilux in the boxcover is horrible and pretty depressing, but if you change the wheels and do some proper paint work, you'll see nothing is better than a Hilux High-Lift. I got one this week and used 2.2 wheels and BlackFoot tires to make an early 80's Californian Mudbogger out of it. No further modifications required! It's not 100% ready yet, but the picture perhaps will give you some ideas.

    Have a nice weekend!

  13. I was a big fan of Monster trucking in the 80's. Never saw a Black Foot and I believe that name just doesn't exist. The truck must have been inpired by some Mudbogger or maybe it was only a way to give extra use to the F-150 body. I've seen them tires used on Mudbogging races though, but never on a F-150 ranger truck.

Anyway, apart of this one (which is the most impotant, BTW), most of the other large Tamiya trucks were inspired on a real one.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  14. Scorcher, Bruiser, all great R/C models. I wonder how many of you gives the BlackFoot the place it deserves in the history not only of Tamiya, but in that one of the Hobby itself. The greatest R/C model in the history is The BlackFoot. And I guess it doesn't have the recognition it deserves because it isn't a hard to find, but we must be fair to it. Please note I'm not saying I wouldn't like to own a Scorcher or a Bruiser, cause I really do!!!

    Have a great weekend!

  15. The first R/C car I had was a Taiyo red buggy. It wasn't cheap back in the day. Everyone's dream here was the Tyco Bandit. By the way, anybody remember's Nikko model HAWG?? It was a 4x4 double motor Toyota Hilux, with the same tires (and body) of the Bruiser, but with an horrible mammoth bumper.

My first Tamiya was the Midnight Pumpkin. The day I saw the box I fell in love with it. I remember selling a lot of things until I raised the money to pay for it. I was ecstatic.

To date I only have Tamiyas. I know some Kyosho trucks are much better if you look closely at the mechanics, but no one can compete with the looks of Tamiya. And, just like someone pointed out a a while ago, I never look other RC threads because these kids, they only want the fastest piece of sh*t that comes out. So what if you have the fastest car but it looks like a piece of plastic garbage?

Tamiya is different. And I believe that has a lot to do with the fact that they were, right from the start, a model company. In fact, they still do the best scale models in the world.

    Y'all have a great day!

  16. May I know what servo you're using?

Actually, I got the kit just yesterday. so I will start the building proccess tonight. I don't have a servo for it yet, but judging from what I been told, S-3003 or S-148 servos just won't do for doing the steering here.

I asked the same questions a while ago. See the thread and the input from them now fellow 3-speeders:

Good luck with the truck and please share some pictures of it when you can!

    Regards,
