  1. I'd love to know this too, as I have a couple of shells I'd like to custom up.
  2. I have successfully destroyed another A Parts set (bulkhead covers) I can't find these anywhere. If someone has replaced theirs with the carbon reinforced A Parts and has the old ones lying around, I'm interested!
  3. Nice work Problemchild! Regarding masking tape, I had a roll of plastic based masking tape that worked like a charm, but sadly, my dog ate it! Does anyone know of a vinyl or plastic based masking tape?
  4. So I accidentally ordered light grey primer instead of white, and didn't actually realize it until I started painting. I'm wondering if the white will cover the grey or will the grey show through to make the white look like a lighter grey? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for looking!
  5. Neat! looking forward to seeing how this looks in video.
  6. Welcome Chris. This forum is full of helpful people with loads of creativity. By far the best resource on the net for Tamiya.
  7. Love seeing the pics! What a great project with kids. I'm sure your son will cherish this memory when he gets old and grey like us
  8. @Finnsllc, I couldn't have said it better myself. Only thing is, I just can't. . Lately I've been seriously struggling with masking. Even the kit supplied window masks from Tamiya. No matter what I do, I still get bleed. This is especially frustrating on a static model whose lone purpose is display. Oh yeah, the covids have me doing model kits again after over 30 years. If I was to satisfy my need to build with RC, I'd be at least 1500 in the hole by now. That's about a kit every 10 days or so, so about 5 kits.
  9. Thanks @Finnsllc. I think with my level of perfectionism, I'm always trying to make the body 100%. I have a Lancia 037 body that I've been laboring over for months. I spray a coat, see some imperfections, sand and repeat. Sometimes I get this crackly texture after I spray. Not sure what causes this., but it leads me to start the whole process over again. Ugh!
  10. @CoolHands I think the difference is that if you put enough clear coat on the body after stickers/decals, that they look more like they're part of the paint job. This finish is very desirable in the modeling community and in competitions, but I don't know about the rc world.
  11. Please post up pics when you're finished. Would love to see the finished product. Good Luck!!!
  12. I have seen a video recently where a guy does a couple of layers of clear over his decals. I'm not sure if it's the same for stickers, but I imagine that being a lot thicker, you could do more than a few layers to get an even coat over the stickers to where you couldn't feel them to the touch. someone else please chime in though.
  13. I have horrible luck with masking recently. don't know if it's the type of tape I use (standard blue painters tape) or my technique. I have definitely done this a few times. I would respray the whole body and brush on the window trim very delicately. don't drive yourself nuts trying to remove small spots because you'll invariably mess up the blue. Luckily it's the hard body and mistakes are much easier to correct.
  14. Returned to the car that got me back into the hobby. The Hotshot! I've done a few things to it over the years, suspension upgrade, Front one way, new roof and under tray. So basically a Supershot with a Hotshot body. I need to sort out the toe-out in the front. Today I changed out the springs in the front to something a bit stiffer and used shorter screws on the top of the damper stay. Haven't really put it to the test since upgrading it.
  15. I think I need to get the hex hubs, those wheels and tires and the purty gold shocks!
  16. Hey Bastiaan, if you're interested, I have silver B parts tree that I'd part with for very little. Been collecting dust for awhile now.
  17. Thanks Juggular. I was able to fill in most of the pits with the putty. tht stuff sure isn't easy to work with. Going to try the liquid primer in a bit. I'll post pics of that impending debacle when it's done.
  18. Hello all, I've been laboring over this Lancia body for weeks now, trying to achieve the perfect finish. On one of my painting layers, I messed up and tried to correct it, but ended up overcompensating. The result was that I pretty much sanded down to the body. After 2 layers that high point still shows up. My question is: Can I use Tamiya liquid surface primer to cover it up? I was also thinking to use Tamiya putty to fill in the tiny pits. Any advice would be much appreciated!
  19. I built a df03RA with 2 Subaru bodies and sold it before ever running it. Then I did the unthinkable and built a buggy champ, labored over the body finishing for weeks and then sold that before running it as well. It's the only RC regret I have.
  20. If I'm not mistaken, it is in the amount of hop ups included in the kits. Someone please correct me if I've gotten it wrong.
  21. You can get a Tamiya female/male deans adapter for less than $10 https://www.ebay.com/itm/No-Wires-Connector-Mini-Tamiya-Female-to-Male-T-Plug-Deans-Style-Adapter/330924580404?hash=item4d0ca45e34:g:-F8AAOxyepRRr83X
  22. Somehow I have it in my head that we used to have a dedicated forum for this topic, maybe it's just the fact that I've been shut in for 3 weeks playing tricks on my mind. Anyways, to satisfy my building urge without killing my limited resources for the time being. (Haven't worked in over a month), I've turned to plastic model building for the time being. My 1st kit in over 30 years! It was a bit messy, with some tough detailing work, but overall satisfactory. The 2nd was a Honda classic CBR750. A much easier build, and I enjoyed the larger scale. Anyone else doing static models to pass the time?
