Excellent i'll have a look as i'm referring to a set of stickers for a Marui Ninja so they are obviously not Tamiya ones!
-
Would someone actually show me via a pic what these adaptors look like, I have no idea!

-
I would love to get a couple of copies of some old decals, is this possible and if so how much does it cost?
-
Also I wondered if I should just get a dirt cheap easy to use charger instead, or would that just fry my batteries all too quickly?
-
the esc is more efficient and will regulate / use the power from the battery to better purpose. the msc uses a constant amount of current; it just bleeds off the extra current as heat when you go slower, thus the resistor plate that gets so hot.
the esc needs zero maintenance.
the esc probably won't go crackers for no apparent reason and send your favorite car speeding into a tree unexpectedly.
purists and masochists love msc's. there is surely an argument for keeping a model original, i just don't choose to follow it. and i love to malign msc's.

Fair point, and you are so right about cars just going off into the trees etc for no reason!

In addition to previous answers it is worth saying that either the ESC or the receiver must have BEC.
Most often, nowadays, both have BEC, but that is not necessary.
The TEU-101BK is one of the few ESCs on the market today that does not have BEC.
In terms of cost though, would you say it's still an excellent buy?

The less turns the faster the motor, 23 turn would be slower than a 19 turn, there are brush motor and brushless, brushless are super fast
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgfdwBqnRjo
not cheap though, can be over 200 for a really good brushless system
Thanks, but a super stock rz 23 motor for example, is still a very fast motor, or would you recommend a 19 turn motor as being of similar cost and speed?

A while ago I sought advice on here for what a good charger would be. Most of you seemed to think the Graupner Ultramat 14 Computer Peak Charger was a good level charger. I have purchased this and use it to charge my 7.2 NiCd 3600Mah batteries.
Graupner Ultramat 14 Computer Peak Charger
The problem is I needed to purchase battery connection leads for it which I got at the same time as the charger. The touble is that they constantly lift up off the charger, even if ever-so-slightly, causing the charging connection to break and then I have to fiddle for ages just to get the connection again to charge my battery. I have to say it is a right old royal pain and wondered if anyone had this charger and the same problem, or how they overcame it? I thought the battery connection leads would fit in snuggly but they just literally have to be poked inside the lead slots on the top of the charger and constantly lift off the contact points.
Also I wondered what the highest voltage setting I should apply when charging batteries is? At the moment im charging my 7.2V at a rate that takes about 40mins to fully charge, as I dont want to cook the batteries, but I expect I could charge them a lot quicker - does anyone know?!
Many thanks and sorry to be a pain

Brilliant replies thanks! Spider monkeys..rofl!

OK so i'lls tick the ESC in all old cars then (will have to buy a couple more) but isn't it better to keep original cars exactly how they were? Does an ESC just make the efficiency better or is there a difference with speed etc also then?

Generally speaking two things decide how fast a motor is. How fast it spins when fed with 7.2 V (RPM) and torque (turns and winds), that is how well it can sustain the high RPM under load. Both are generally given by most manufacturers. You may have seen "15x2, 33 000 RPM", where 15 is the number of turns and 2 is the number of strands the wire has.
Turns refers to the number of times a wire is wrapped around the motor armature and winds is the number of strands the wire has. A lower number of turns translates to higher RPM (shorter wire, lower internal resistance). That makes them draw more current, thus beeing called "hotter" motors and a more difficult load for speed controllers. Moreover this also translates into different run-times, where a lower turn-motor has a shorter run-time than a higher-turn motor.
Winds have a similar effect on power and run-time. A single wind (x1) motor will give you more punch than a higher wind motor (say x3). The latter will give a smoother pickup and a slightly higer top speed. The more winds a motor has the lower its run-time will be given the same car and battery
Geez now im confused. So in a nutshell, the more turns means the more turns of wire inside the motor on its spindle, which means what, faster speeds or lower speeds? Would a 23 turn motor be a faster or slower motor than say a 19 turn, or does it not work like that?
-
And 22 years on I would still love to own one, just so I could say I do

Got ya, just like me buying an old Marui Ninja NIB so I could re-live my childhood!

So is the super stock rz 23 turn available now then and the best on the market I take it? I want to upgrade a couple of my cars so want to buy a good motor or two

-
If I had one it would go straight onto the back of a period machine, and be bashed until it broke. Then rebuilt...and bashed until it broke again. Etc.
Can I ask, are these motors the best things ever made, or is it just sentimental feelings towards them? If they are still the best, why on earth has Tamiya not started reproduction of these?
-
you need BEC with a teu 101 bk esc.
OK yet other ESCs you can have a smaller receiver without the BEC?
-
nah the other way around
most ESCs have BEC inbuilt, they supply 6.0V to the RX via the 1 cable and you don't need BEC in the RX
exception being the TEU101BK
SO hold on, do I need to use a BEC receiver with a TEU101BK, or are you saying you I can use a receiver without BEC with this speed controller?

Hi,
I am looking at hopping up and experimenting with various cars I have. I would like to get a couple of upgraded motors as I have already bullraced most of my models now. What motor/s would you all recommend? Is the Technigold motor a quality motor and one of the best to purchase, or would you recommend others instead?
I have a Re-re lunchbox bullraced, a re-re Hornet bullraced, a Marui Ninja soon to be bullraced, and a Marui Galaxy fit for the scrap heap just now!
Also do the new Lipo batteries enable cars to go even faster, or is it just that they last longer?

Lack of BEC in the reciever means you need to use a seperate power supply to power the reciever. 4 or 5 x 'AA's or a regulator inline from the 7.2v stick pack. (5x Ni-Cd/Ni-MH = 6.0v)
Most ESCs are set to use with a reciever that has a BEC, it gets it's power from the +ve and -ve of the reciever plug, the 3rd wire is signal. Some ESCs still have a seperate power cable for the reciever power (red/black - 2 wires aswell as the 3pin plug that has signal/+ve/-ve). Tamiya 101 ESC is like this.
Cheers, Mark
Thanks. Hmm so basically unless you want to greayy old style you would always make sure you have a eceiver with a BEC then, i'm suprised you can even but receivers without now to be honest?
-
Hi guys, I am not sure I have this right. Do you only need a receiver with a BEC if you are running a manual speed controller? I'm not really sure what else you would need the function for? I notice that receivers without the BEC feature are literally half the size, but does that mean you require a separate 4AA battery pack in the car to operate it? I'm confused (doesn't tale much!)
Thanks

Welcome to the site! I remember being a newbie, seems like a long time ago now! (only 5 years though!)
Seems to be quite a few of us from the nottingham area now

The Nottingham area hey? Brilliant! Me too! How often do you guys meet for races/fun, and where abouts exactly?

-
You can PM me his number too and i'll call him and ask what the score is exactly with the kits and let you all know?

-
i recently bought a teu-101bk from the bay for around 15 inc p+p, fitted it to my tt-01 easily, set-up a doddle, and it runs fine with my LRP 19turn motor. i've even come to love the brake mode too!
Wow works well in a 19 turn motor hey? I presume the lower the turn motor the more powerful/faster it is? If so are the Tamiya Technigold motors some of the best/fastest motors you can get? I remember I had something like a Palma Yokomo motor years ago and it made my old Monster Beetle go SOOO quickly!!
Also can I ask what 'BEC' unit is?

Hi guys, I have a Marui Ninja NIB and also a couple of old ones that do not have shells. Seeing as I can't find any shells online anywhere, I wondered if it's possible to take my NIB shell to a manufacturer and get some more made/copied? Is this possible and if so is it really expensive?!
Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I have just received a beaten up Marui Galaxy off ebay that is need of restoration. The trouble is i'm not sure what parts are missing etc. Can anyone help with what I may or may not need? Some parts are broken etc but it will be a great project. Does anyone actually own one? Are they fast / good to drive etc?
If anyone knows of a manual I could get my hands on i'm sure that would help!
Marui models were great and I am also in the process of restoring a Ninja (my first childhood car!).
Many thanks in advance everyone

Ahh The Galaxy..
My first R/C car. Well I can tell you the Ninja and Samuarua are far better than the Galaxy which was a up dated Hunter. Ok the gearbox is a BIG problem or more to the point the Idler gear strips out so quick.
I can remember only getting a couple runs before it started to click (slip). After a lot of striped gears a managed to buy a brass gear which solved the problem. It was light and handled pretty well for buggies of
that era. The speed controller was a big problem too. I ended up putting a ESC which was a huge expense back than. Good Luck the 4WD buggies were a lot better as they lerned from there mistakes.
Yes i'm going to stick an ESC in for sure, have one waiting. The trouble is that without an instruction manual i'm not sure what else is currently missing from the car. Any ideas where I may be able to source one from? Better still would be to find it on a PDF format?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Everything you said is correct- [Guessing you mean ESC and not ELC at the end?]
Don't have an old one though. Our good fiend* e-pay is prolly best for that- the older stuff isn't that 'fashionable' and doesn't go for much money, unless it's proper old!
Brilliant, thanks for the reply
