If you have a spare bit of scrap clear decal ,you can paint the decal with a light coat of the same colour the body was/is painted[if you have any left?],then when it is dry just cut a couple of circles out and stick them over the holes, works well for the reverse body mounts on the Tam Tech Gear cars which is where I got the tip, I have used it to hide bigger holes to good effect.
Thanks for the tip, but surely you'd still still see a thin line round the edge as I'd never be able to cut neat perfect circles from a lexan shell that would fit flush - or am I missing a special tip on how to cut these??

hi Malakite,
i missed updating your last thread.
looking at the countach it does seem that the front and rear have two potential body post places.very cruel they werent pre drilled for you.
as for covering the front ones its a bu66er of a place innit?
for lexan what about trying to get 6mm circles of scrap lexan paint them the body colour and place them on abit of that aluminium tape stuff tamiya do.
then stick the tape from the inside so the circles sit in the holes? as mentioned you could put stickers over this so it would appear flush on the surface.
i was thinking of doin this as the antena hole on the roof wont be used as i have a tt01 (non E version) and the aerial straw goes up from the back.middle of the rear gearbox.
i got the body holes pre cut...but i got an aerial hole pre cut too..an its a big hole!

I know what you mean, the holes the body shell instructions state to drill in the roof for the antenna are 6mm!! You only really need 3mm at most! Ridiculous!

OK guys thanks, looks like stickers it is then!!

Hi guys, I drilled a couple of holes in my new Lambourghini Body Shell by mistake (DOH!!) and would now like to have any suggestions if there is a way to fill these in at all?
Many thanks, and help or suggestions would be fab, i'm gutted!
-
Normally, the holes near the bumper are for Tamiya's "racing" chassis. The TT-01 and other "scale" chassis use holes that are usually just in front of the windscreen.
DOH ok so I defo need to drill another set of holes then, thanks for the update! OK think i'll start a new thread on body shell repair!

-
hi,the Tamiya Countach shell for a TT01 should have the front holes on the lowest edge of the windscreen...perhaps the rear are curious.they are shaped like a "tic tac" for want of a better description.
kinda like two holes with the joining part cut out.
i think its poss due to the big foam bumper.it allows some degree of shell movement back to front when impacts occur?
the rear kinda run next to the raised edge on the engine cover.my shell had the holes already? i think it may have come from a split kit?
hope it helps
Hi there,
Yup I drilled the 'tic tac' shape part at the rear of the shell, and have since realised that had the wrong body arms (where the body clips go into) on the rear of the car, so I have changed those and now the back lines up with the holes ok BUT the front do not. could change the body clip arm thingies on the front, but you would still need to really tug on the shell to get it to pop over those arms at the front, so I'm wondering if something else is not quite right?
When you say the 'lowest edge of the windscreen' do you mean the holes are literally by the windscreen so where the windscreen wiper decal is? Mine are nearer the bottom of the bonnet towards the front bumper, so is this wrong?!.....
Also any ideas if the front holes ARE wrong, how I could fill them in at all?
Thanks

Shame about the holes in the shell.

I always line up the unpainted shell on the actual car before drilling the holes.
Is it the Tamiya shell that you are using?
Hi there, yes it is! I REALLY thought I had lined everything up, now its got holes in the wrong places, 6mm ones at that!
The weird this is, if I line the shell up with the front chassis pins, it would appear that the shell would be perfectly lined up with the front wheels, but then the rear of the shell with 2 extra mini dents for drilling positions at the back, would not line up meaning I'd have to guess myself - is that right?!
I hope that makes sense?!

Hi guys,
I've been slowly but surely making my Lambourghini shell with full light kit and spoiler kit. It was all going so well until I drilled the holes so that it would fit onto the TT-01 Type E chassis that I purchased for it, but the holes do not line up at all!!

Even when I look at drilling the other available holes in the shell, it still would not line up it would appear.
Has anyone tried this shell on the TT-01 Type E chassis and can advise?
Also any ideas what I can use to fill in the now redundant holes I have drilled, or am I best leaving them so that I can use the shell with other chassis should I so wish in he future (although very doubtful!)
Thanks and any advise really would be great!

30cms - out of interest, what way did you have the tyre tread on your Countach? You will notice that each tyre has a pattern facing forward on one side of the tyre, then one facing backward on the other side. You can only have two sets of tyres to have that forward/backward tread on the same side, so I wondered what set up you have - whether its on the front or back? Hope thats makes sense!!
-
Yeah same for the RX7 6 front and 6 rear! Its gonna look like a motorised xmas tree in the dark!

Cheers
Rich
Haha plus make the battery last about 2 mins!

-
Yeah I changed the colour of the ones I was supposed to get from orange to red.
Personal preference I guess.

Shame we hadn`t had this convo before I bought mine as I would have offered to buy your 5mm leds off you.

Cheers
Rich
Haha thats ok I've use dthem both luckly enough the COuntach sheel uses BOTH sets of 5mm then requires a further 4 sets of 3 mm, crazy, so in total TWELVE LIGHTS!!!!
-
Well you may need more sizes too as I got the bodyset with the tlu and it has the same as yours (2xWhite and 2xRed 5mm leds included) with it and these do fit my RX7. But I also needed 2 more 5mm White leds, 2 more 5mm Red leds, 2 more 3mm White leds and 2 more 3mm Red leds to finish it off!
I agree things are never simple

Cheers
Rich
Right looks like I just need 3mm although I think I should get half white and half orange as thats the colour of the light stickers

-
Don't get the Tamiya - they are expensive. Instead, a direct replacement is 3Racing LED's:
http://www.stellamodels.net/catalog/advanc...mp;x=8&y=11
I think they are cheaper - haven't compared recently.
Thanks for looking but it says the cheapest shipping is $78!!!!!!!!!
-
Well it depends on the shell and its instructions
Usually where the pics of lights are in the build manual it says 5mm red or 3mm orange etc.
Sometimes there is a symbol that is a circle with a diagonal line through it with a number 3 or 5. that is the size of led that that led holder needs/takes.
My RX7 shell takes 4x5mm white leds and 2x3mm leds for the front so that is 3 sets totalling 6 leds for the front.
The back takes 4x5mm red leds and 2x3mmr red leds so again 6 leds and 3 sets.
Not having the same shell as you I cant say what you need but your build manual will tell you.
Cheers
Rich
Hi Rich - ahh right that makes sense then! Well it says number 3 on most although the TLU I have as you have stated, has 2 sets of lights, one red and one white, both with 5mm LEDs which fine perfectly, so that must mean I need 5mm ones?! Why are things never simple!!
-
Do I need just the 3mm do you know?? I can't work it out!!
-
Hi
yes you can but be warned there expensive!
I just bought some 2 mins ago for my Mazda RX7 shell which needs 12 lights in all!
I got mine from wonderland models and ebay. just search for tamiya 3mm led or tamiya 5mm led.
Hope you find them.

Cheers
Rich
Hi mate, so is it not cheaper to get these rather than the whole set then or just as cheap to do it with the full set each time??
-
Hi guys, I have 1 X Tamiya TLU-01 for my Lambourghini Countach i've been making. After starting to fit the lights, it would appear I need (shock horror!!) another FOUR SETS! I just wondered if you can purchase the lights separately to plug ito the control box that comes with the TLU-01 set, instead of the whole pack (which comes with the control unit etc) - does anyone know??!
-
i like the countach a lot
i finished mine in white

Nice!

-
Im sure these are them - Tamiya 50419
http://www.fusionhobbies.com/Tamiya-Racing...2-p/ta50419.htm
and on ebay for 7.99 for the set.
Zak.
Brilliant, I've ordered from ebay, many thanks

-
I've slowly been building my Countach, but although the bodyset comes complete with the wheel hubs, it does not come with the tyres. Does anyone know the correct tyres to go with the hubs?
Any help would be ace!
Many thanks

-
That makes sense going from forward to reverse - you have to brake to a halt, then left stick back again to get the TEU101BK to reverse .... but forward too, I'm thinking it could be motor brushes not contacting the comm properly? If it's a silvercan, swap it for another motor & try again, if the motor is something you can remove/replace the brushes in, remove the springs & check the brushes can move freely - I had a brush seize up in an Orion motor years ago, it was pretty frustrating!
Hi mate, yup its just a 540 silver can so i'll swap and have a try, thanks

That's a harsh criticism, IMHO.

For what it's worth - I've always felt the Hunter was a gorgeous buggy. Great, chunky tail-end and great tyres, and a nice sleek design with it's two-tone colour scheme.
It was only the 3rd kit to come out of the Marui stable, and their first buggy. For it's time, I also have it on good advice that it was more than a match for a Frog. Which is quite impressive, because the Frog itself was great for it's time (still is!), especially in the window before the RC10 came out.
If you appreciate presentation, the Hunter kit is gorgeous too - very, very nicely presented, with quite a lot of blisters displaying all the parts. Whilst the car itself was pretty unique, and had some interesting metal engineering with it's universal joints and rear shock layout. Truly a wonderful buggy, and a bit underappreciated methinks.
IMHO, very few R/C cars are particularly weak - if driven with at least a little care, they'll hold up. And Marui was no more, or less, weak than Tamiya. In fact they were very comparable, all things considered. In some cases, Marui's designs exceeded Tamiya's.
If you're interested in driving it with it's original spec, then go for it and have fun
Just drive with a little care, and don't jump it off the roof of your house, or into brick walls etc etc. Modern buggies are far stronger than vintages, this is true. You cannot treat vintage buggies like modern buggies in most cases. But IMHO that shouldn't mean every vintage car needs to modded up and reinforced to try to withstand modern buggy treatment. Run it at vintage spec and enjoy the history, but just don't thrash it too bad

Just my 2 cents!
cheers,
H.
FANTASTIC POST and one I fully agree with! These are absolute CLASSIC vintage cars, enjoy them and treat them well you will get far more enjoyment from running your Hunter than you would from building a brand new modern spec Tamiya, trust me on that!!
I must get a Hunter to join my collection at some point!

Hi guys,
Has anyone else had it whereby for some unknown reason, sometimes you hit 'forward' or 'reverse' and it just does not respond, then you take your thumb off the controls, the it will suddenly work the next time you try forward or reverse? I have no idea what the reason is behind this, but it's happening!! Once the car is moving in either direction, it will not cut out, it's only when I first try to move either way that sometimes there is just no response at all!
Any ideas?

A possible tell tail sign is look a the Japanese market to see if more than usual NIB of old models being put up for sale. The locals or even TC members from Japan may have a better scoop on what Tamiya will re-release next or soon as local conditions are more easily pick up by locals than.
Maybe TC member at MIT or Nasa can make a RC nano fly with a listening devise and attach itself to Mr. Tamiya office, the Planning department, etc to get an inside scoop.

Definitely. Also you'd be really miffed wouldn't you if you purchased an old classic Tamiya NIB for there to then be a re-re a couple of months later! I dare say that must have happened to a few people on here?!
