  1. i've already got the HPI 996 shell here and it looks great. IMO the 997 is a better looking car but i prefer (for some reason i just do) the 996 GT2/Turbo with the different rear lights. As i said above though, i hated the 996 at first and i'm glad the looks were brought back with the 997. If it was my money on a 1:1 i'd be buying a 996 GT2 over a 997 and buy a nice runner with the change. i've never claimed to be a "Porschefile" as i am a Ford man at heart so i'd rather buy three Cosworths with the money instead
  2. can you post some pics of what you've done as inspiration please? I'll probably be looking for advice too!
  3. thanks for the quick replies guys Kev, thanks for the info, i'm glad to hear its so easy to work with and your wing looks like it turned out great. I'm glad to hear it comes in so many different forms too. thanks again. I'll start a project thread and the wing updates will go in there no doubt. Kevin
  4. i'm looking at making a rear wing for my Porsche shell - i have seen people build detailed scale engines and interiors out of styrere - what is it, where can i get it, how easily is it cut and shaped and will it be any good once painted and bolted to my shell?
  5. yeah its the same shell as yours, i'm going to make a spoiler for the rear as i want it to be a road-going GT2 and not have a Turbo spoiler or a racing style wing so it'll need to be made from scratch
  6. My 996 shell arrived today, I'm glad I went for it, it's really well detailed and the pics on the website do it no justice. The sticker set will finish it off nicely with a few mods, the sideskirts are a wee bit low, I may trim them back a touch too. All I need is the paint and my m04 parts to get the chassis up and running.
  7. I completely forgot that you were after this. I still have it here, I'll get some decent pictures and pm you them
  8. cheers, i'll look into sorting it thanks for the advice
  9. but in turn the buyer would recieve negative feedback for daring to leave neutral or negative feedback in the first place
  10. as terry has said above, you'll need to use TL-01 arms and driveshafts to make up to the 190mm width, i'm doing the same to use a 190mm Porsche shell on my M04XL
  11. i ordered the 996 shell today, on closer inspection it was actually a lot better finished than i thought it was - que GT2 M04XL
  12. i didn't know it was possible to space the wishbones out - how is this done? It'll save having a set of spacers made up and if i can space the wishbones out i'll be able to use the plastic spacer as mentioned. thanks for the link also, what body posts are best for a TL01/TT01 shell, will the M04 ones fit the holes ok or can i use TL01/TT01 posts instead?
  13. hmmm... i'll have a look and see how it goes together with bits robbed off my TL-01 then cheers for the link Butler
  14. i was thinking of making it out of alloy or light steel and having it welded together then painted satin black. its the shocks i'm not 100% about, i'd imagine the M04 ones won't fit with the TL-01 arms and uppers but the TL-01 shocks might be too big. I planned on using the wider hex's anyway as i want the car to be as wide as possible with the 190mm shell. anyone got any idea on the shocks and if any other parts are required other than those i listed? Kevin
  15. i'm going to be doing a 190mm wide conversion to my M04 (i'll also be lengthening it but that's in hand). What parts are required? as far as i can see all i need is the arms from a TL-01, the upper "arms" from a TL01, longer dogbones from a TL-01 and a set of shocks to fit. what suspension will fit (even basic stuff will do from another model) and which body posts do i use? I'm going to be using a Porshe shell on it which fits a TL-01 or a TT-01 but does the M04 line up with these once extended or will i need a new set? the spacers are being designed this week, probably best to keep it simple but it will no doubt be a cage of some sort to stop it flexing. Once i have all the info i need i'll start a project thread. Cheers Kevin
  16. i prefer the look of the turbo to the GT3 (actually i prefer the GT2) plus the GT3 came with different wheels - i already have the turbo wheels. i don't like how the 997 turbo has the same rear lights as the normal carrera, gt3 etc. so that's what's puting me off the 997. The HPI 997 shell is much better detailed than the 996 sadly but i really do prefer the look of the 1:1 996. i even quite like the front lights although i'm glad they changed them back for the 997. i think i'll just need to settle for the HPI 996 unless there's any other makers out there that have detailed shells? (The Tamiya gt3 one is a no-go) how can anyone not love this?! -
  17. You two are useless! The 993 is my favourite of the lot if them too strangely but I'm between both of these shells because I have the turbo wheels already and want to make them look as if they were meant to be there. I could just got for the normal carrera shell but it looks pants compared to the turbo body (especially the 996 rear lights) so I fancy the 996/7
  18. i'm stuck between going for a 996 Turbo shell and a 997 Turbo shell. Of the road cars i prefer the look of the rear of the 996 with the different rear lights (and i already have the wheels to match) but the 997 shell looks a lot better detailed than the earlier one. Has anyone got the earlier shell that they can comment on or post some pictures? both are from HPI as that's the only place i can find them - the 996 (yellow) doesn't look anywhere near as smart as the 997 (blue) from these pics below but the 997 is a rubbish looking car compared to the 996! HELP!!
  19. that looks amazing! what is the wheel base for an M04-L?
  20. Yeah I've got a spare that I know is working 100% and it's being replaced by an ESC shortly so it's there for the stealing. I'll try and see what the problem is with the first one by taking it apart, I already took the servo horn off and tried it and it's not great on the slow step and non-existent on the middle one but works fine on full throttle. I'll have a look when I get home from work and get a kip. Thanks for the advice so far. Kevin
  21. Today I finally got the exhaust flexi replaced on her car, cleared the computer of the system Defragmentor virus, tidied all my Xmas stuff away in my room in preparation of the dog coming to stay with us for a week then had dinner and came to work. Last ever nightshift in here then I've got three day shifts and I'm back to being a free man!
  22. I have a bit of a problem with the MSC on one of my cars - moving to an ESC is not an option as I want to keep it old skool and original. I've reset the servo to stationary but it's still not working as it should, it won't seem to go forward until it hits full throttle but then on the way back down it stutters like it wants to go. I've played about with the servo horn but this only adjusts the amount the servo moves the MSC so does not help with the problem i have. I haven't tried contact cleaner on it yet, coud this be the cause of the problem or is it something else? Thanks Kevin
