  1. Dear Mods, I had a thread locked, a few years ago but it has been on my mind every time i think of adding some pictures to it. The thread related to lengthening an M-04 chassis (http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=42867&hl=raysan#entry267877). Anyway i did figure out how i can do the job with the help from replies that i received. Unfortunately the project has kind of sat there ever since, this is mainly because i wanted to share the pictures of the work on here being reason for doing it in the first place. It's probably too late to do anything about it now but i was just curious all this time about why that thread was locked out on me. Any info would be nice, i wouldn't try to break the rules on purpose, just wanted to share some ideas. regards.
  2. Some great videos on here Tamiya fans, here is one of my rere Holiday Buggy. This is the track i've been building down in the front yard for the past couple of years bit by bit. It's slowly coming along well. It's looking good because of the wet season, for the rest of the year its a bit of a dust bowl. If this video works out well i'll start putting up some videos of my other runners. If i can get enough drivers i can trust i might even be able to put together a decent line up of original vintage cars one day. But for now please enjoy my Holiday Buggy doing some lap sprints. I made this track with vintage runners in mind but i am now thinking of a few more jumps and a drivers stand. Enjoy thanks for watching. [media] [media]
  3. Its a bit of both I agree, some are able to run by putting in a battery even if it never happens, a few have no receiver in them. For me I just think some are really nice to look at, and besides that my wife has no probs letting me have them around the place so I do! Would never say I wouldn't run them at all I have my favorites that get run a lot. Sometimes it's nice to look at cars that are run a lot versus the ones that are still like they rolled out of the showroom. I've had cars that have sat on a shelf/cupboard/kitchen table/coffee table for a year or more before being turned into runners. Then there's always the runners that get a good clean up repair to be put on the shelf as a warrior monument for a life well spent. Cool hobby, anything goes.
  4. Yes you're not alone if you do just make them for the fun of it. I know I do. One of my favorites to look at is the f201.
  5. Looks like the problem is going to be solved by the supplier, which is very nice. Thanks for the advise.
  6. Hello this kind of sux, I am getting the run around from them all, customer support is a non replier. It said it would work with all futaba 2.4g transmitters. The strange thing is that on the plastic bag it came in is written V-F-TFR8 but on the receiver is text saying TF1007. This is a pain
  7. Hello, I've bought a Futaba compatible FrSky TF-8M 8ch receiver to use with my Futaba 3PK.. They said it would work but I cannot get the thing to bind at all. I have also tried it on the Futaba 3PM with no luck. Does anybody have any advise regarding settings and what I might need to do to make this happen. When I follow the instructions to bind it nothing happens at all. I hols the button down and all that happens is it gets warm from the LED's. The red and green lights simply stay on and no binding happens. Without it bound to the transmitter the button will function by being able to change receiver modes,, failsafe on ect so I am guessing the button works. Just no binding! If anyone has experience with these "compatible" recievers can you please help. Would hate to think I've gone and bought something that will not work based on the websites information that said it would. Cheers
  8. I took some pictures this afternoon and will upload them later on but first something that had me thinking. I checked the manual that was in the box and it shows a straight pin in the diff, part d5. I will open up the diff after I have cleaned it and check. After having a better look at it, the "patina", was really just years and years of cockroach poo. So Biggamehunter you can get to see it cleaned up one day, be good if it could come up nearly as nice as your one .
  9. I'm sure I can take some pictures for you of the box and roach eaten manual, will work on it this week when I can......cleaning it though! dunno about that yet. Kind of liking it how it is with it's flat tyres and all. Not to mention the old patina and look of it. It must be nearly the 30th anniversary of the GH or not? Has it passed already maybe? Can definitely tell it's about that age by looking at it. Would look ok in a shelf diorama as an old barn find..... time will tell. What are the plans for yours? And I thought there would have been more of them out there, has there been any more news on that? It's been an interesting discussion to be a part of so far anyway.
  10. The Grasshopper I have came in an old Gh box and also a manual in it. The manual has a hole eaten through it by roaches but I can have a look at what it says. Never know? So if i'm correct in what I've understood from above, does this one possibly have a solid pin in the rear diff? Also if there is anything that might suggest anything on the box I could put some pics of that up also if you like. Dunno if it is the original box or not but it stands to reason that it could be. An yes Biggamehunter, I agree with you totally. I was going to do something a little silly with this GH because i'd always wanted one and really liked the Hornets. Lucky for history i decided not to. It was on my bench all day while i thought about what to do, but for some reason I had no ideas come to me and shelved it to work on another car instead. Funny hey, rekon the old girl didn't want to be changed. Will clean it up and maybe get some pics of it on my track when it's less dusty. She looks complete and if it wasn't for the fact I've no controller for the ancient rc gear in it i'd probably have it running by now. Cheers
  11. Gday mate, I had a look and took a picture, it says "Made in Japan" but pretty sure it says RCC Grasshopper under it. I had a look at a spare chassis I have for it, looks pretty old too and still in its bag. It doesn't have the "OFFROADER" text under the Tamiya stars. But it has the RCC Grasshopper text under the made in Japan label. See how you go. Interesting stuff. Cheers
  12. I'll have a look in the morning and let you know.
  13. Hi There Biggamehunter. I recently picked up an old Grasshopper that looked pretty old, so after reading your post I thought i'd have a look for you. Its also got the "OFFROADER" text, and has the black tie rod ends. The spare chassis I have for the GH doesn't have the "OFFROADER" text. Let me know if there is any other details you'd like to compare. I don't know much about the GH but always liked the look of them and would be happy to find out more about this version. This one had made its way to Darwin, NT. Also nice to see the old Escorts again, seeing pics always make me miss my old panelvan....takes me back!
  14. Nasty break there. Curbs have taken their fair share of damage out on my cars too. I rekon fix it. Although I don't think either of the cars in those 2 youtube vids will be running again any time soon, was that a battery flying past the camera at 0:45sec in the second vid?
  15. Yesterday I fixed the Futaba radio that was with the Vantage. Here's a couple of pics. I replaced the negative terminal with a springy one I salvaged out of a spare controller......(was in a box I scored at the same time) Can see that the coke did a good job of cleaning off the gunk on the original positive tag on the right. A touch of solder .....and Hey Presto! we have lights. One more of the Grasshopper and one more of the receiver for the old skool radio buffs out there.
  16. Thanks for the comments guys, and I totally agree with Mongoose1983 and Markbt73 about getting boxes of old junk. I love it! and the stuff around my place confirms it! Anyway I've been so happy with the responses that I rekon I ought to put up some more pics. So, here's a few of the grasshopper I took out this morning. Was going to get out the Supershot but I want to do that justice so today while I work and in between emails and work stuff i'll post some of the Grasshopper. I have no controller for this but it looks like it was an interesting choice of radio......perhaps what was lying on the bench at the time it was bought? Anyway here goes. old battery and roach eaten manual, well placed hole though as I can still make out everything in the book Now I don't know if I have enough old-timer recievers that will work but I know I picked up about a dozen Hi-Tec HS-325HB servos and I've got a couple of spare Futaba Fasst system recievers. Question is, should I put in modern radio gear and see if I can get this one running today? Bit of a combo of old and new, mech speedy with 2.4gig Fasst system, maybe a bit of overkill but might be a laugh. More pics available on request.
  17. Excellent news, thanks markbt73. The Nichimo tyres look similar in size to the Hotshot rears. I tried the rims and although they look very similar they don't fit each other. Will measure up the tyres after work, might be able to make something up that will do the trick because I really don't want to destroy such beautiful gold wheels. I will fix this radio, have broken a terminal but found a spare that fitted from a spare controller. Everything along the negative side is corroded badly. Have replaced the wire the terminal and checked that it powers up now I just need to wait for the coke to do its work and put it all back together.
  18. I have some fantastic news. The radio that was in the box with the Vantage was a Futaba Attack SR, its a white case and personally I've never seen one before. It still had batteries in it and i'm guessing from the swelling and leaks that they'd been in there a while. I started to take out the terminals for a clean up and found that the negative wire was broken off at the solder joint at the terminal. This got me thinking as to what may have been the original problem years ago. So while i'm waiting for the coke to erode the green build up I remembered that the Supershot also had a Futaba radio, an Attack-BF. So I got it out and gave the terminals a quick clean loaded some AA's and up she powered.....Sweet! So while I was on a roll next I put a charged up 7.2v battery into the Vantage and swapped over the transmitter crystals.........................and with fingers crossed turned it all on.....................Ha! can't really write hear what I said next but hey, IT WORKS!!!! marvelous. Fully working and would be pretty quick too I rekon when I've had the chance to go over it properly and give it a good service before putting it through its paces. Only thing I can see being an issue is that the tyres are a tad lumpy. Still can't believe it ran, still can't believe I got it in the first place.
  19. Thanks mate, the cars are in pretty good nick from what i've seen of them so far. Haven't had time to open any of them up yet, but all the diffs seem to run smoothly which is a good sign. Some of the tyres are a bit perished but for the climate up here they're very good. My original Monster Beetle tyres are not much more than crumbs of gooey mess compared to this lot. I'm a pretty happy bloke right now.
  20. Ok, seems like something is going right now! One more then its beers.
  21. Here's a try at a picture hope it works if not i'm having more beers and dealing with this later. 38
  22. Yep I'm familiar with the saying, trying to work out why they won't upload. Resized them and all but still no joy. Do I need to be a paid member to upload pictures? Haven't been on here in a while but I don't remember it being this hard to put up a picture or 2.
