  1. Spotted the 934s yesterday. Thought it had a bit of a piscean odour about it!
  2. Traveling 100m in 7 secs is equivalent to traveling at 32mph. I guess you are doing the eqiuvalent of a drag race so your terminal speed will be over 32mph. Probably not by much though as the car will be up to top speed in the first 15 metres or so.
  3. It's a rally brush bar. Originally a hop up for the TA01s. Looks best on the Lancia or Celica
  4. Fiddling in the barn I came up with this. No mods required! With a tiny bit of modification (making some holes in the brush bar base) it could sit 4-5mm higher up.
  5. I think the Blazing Star tyres are the correct tyre pattern but without BFG on the sides. Normal touring car wheels can be used to change the offset to match the body. I'm amassing a few bits so I can put a Ford Ranger body on the TA02 or XC chassis. Both projects have been done before by other members, look around the showrooms!
  6. Found on BBC website http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3281307.stm
  7. Ooooh. If you are making up special parts then why not make the "block" able to pivot along the length as well as the width on the chasis axis so the two gaeboxes can twist relative to each other as well as hinge back and forth. The ultimate in axle articulation! Using the coilovers in an X pattern could control the twist. Of course, this is forgetting the first principle of projects. Keep it simple[]
  8. The threaded holes where the rear cage bolts on would be a nice place for a "hinge". If you use a Roll hoop on both gearboxes you could run a coilover between the two.
  9. Back in the days of old Beatties in Kingston had a 6 wheel Rough Rider using two complete SRB rear ends. It even had the body modified to cover them both! No pictures though[]
  10. Be really careful. In the presence of fragile 20+year old impossible to get hold of bits of plastic, females suddenly have all the grace and delicate touch of a charging Rhino. "Clumsy" and "butterfingers" also spring to mind[] Oh, and all that old tripe that men have better spatial awareness, women can't drive, have more but less serious accidents... It's all true. Don't let them near your expensive toys collectibles[] But don't worry, she probably has a much more expensive hobby. Mine keeps horses, my Landrover, RC, and Scalextric cost me far less.
  11. Does it look like the fuse should be the same size as a household fuse? If so older, real, cars use(d) fuses of the same size but for 12v applications (clear glass). I can't remember the specs but something between 10-20Amps "slow blow" should work. A car spares shop should be able to find some.
  12. I've been thinking about this too. Most policies put a limit on "high risk items" and "collections" You can add extra cover though and declare certain items. It's usually only a relatively small extra on the premium.
  13. My 1989 Land Rover 90 (not Defender) lives in the barn with all the RC kit. I wanted a Land Rover for ages and one day I realised that I actually had the money to but one and still keep another car running too. Within a couple of weeks I had one[]. Over the past year it has gone into semi retirement, I've only done 5000miles or so in it. It will be pressed into service this weekend as there is some heavy duty towing to be done. So I'm bound to have something to fix next week[]. The link between RC and Land Rover ownership is that a "proper" Land Rover is basically a kit which you can take to bits, modify, break, fix and play with.
  14. I wonder if the new Tamiya videos are quite so extreme[] Driving through 3 inch deep seawater[](SRB and 3spds) Driving off a 10+ foot drop[] (superchamp) Can you see the kid now. "I just drove my Baja King through the sea and off a 20ft drop. It doesn't work anymore. I'm gonna sue"[!]
  15. [][][] WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER WILL NOT LET ME SEE THE PICTURES, I ONLY GET SOUND!
  16. I think mud4fun has summed it up better than I had. You look a 3 pages of NIB before you get to see the vehicles people have put some work into.
  17. A very personal view but I don't find pictures of boxes interesting or exciting. It's a bit of a dissapointment to open a showroom and be faced by a full page of NIB. Is it possible to change the order of the categories so the built models are lited first? Something along the lines of Runner Restored New Built NIB Project Recent find Other
  18. I bought a Hummer last week. It is so fun to drive[] The wider track gives it stability the XC and TA01 Stadium trucks can only dream of. With the detailed body it looks great flying over gravel at speed and through the bushes[8D] Even the mirrors are flexi plastic so not too much harm is done if you roll it[] Currently heading to be my favourite runner.
  19. The suspension on the SRBs is way better than the HB/SR the front has two settings and the rear torsion bars are "adjustable". Additionally there are oil filled shocks. (I wish there was a smilie for "laughing so hard I'm crying") Actually, on these early models the tyres provide a lot of the suspension. On the SR and HB the tyre walls are rock hard and have no give. Whereas the large paddlatrack and Spikes (superchamp) are really soft with loads of flex. I found that running the ford ranger wheel set was a good compromise on give and longevity. Putting the wider ranger wheels on the front of a SS or RR will improve "turn in" on corners the wider track also means they turn over less as well.
  20. A while back I soved a 7.2 stick cell in the Sand Rover Chassis and ran it on some grass. I was somewhat dissapointed, and concluded that as I was much younger when I last ran it spped was a relative thing. However, I took a chance on charging a hump cell I got a few months ago and stuck that in on Saturday morning. Wow[] This thing really is fast. In a straight line it would be nearlly as fast as the Hummer I got off of Dazmeister last week. If only it would go in a straight line that is[]. Doughnuts on concrete[] Most of my drive is LARGE (+20mm) gravel. The modern cars with coilovers get bounced about but spend most of their time pointing the right way. The bouncy Sand Rover spends only a little over 50% of their time pointing where you want them. How did people ever race these things? They may be lighter and faster than a SRB but on anything rougher than gut grass the directional stability is suspect. Anyway, really glad I have a good runner and a good original 7.2 Hump. Now all I have to do is repair the speed controler for the Sand Scorcher and I can have fun in the puddles[][]
  21. It's a TA-01 as used on 58096,99,108,112,113,117 Although the bit you want is on the TA-02 as well.
  22. Look familiar? Although I think the guy who built it is trying to make a Brat look like the Tamiya version!
  23. The SRB F150 and Sand Scorcher shells slip over the TB01 chassis with room to spare. The Sand Rover (and presumably Holiday Buggy ) shell also fits over nicely. One problem, I cannot see any way of shortening the wheelbase by fiddling with the suspension []
  24. Here is my Mu shell on a S10 chassis. http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...id=9709&id=1297 The chasssis has the rear suspension turned over to make the wheel base correct and there are some homemade bodymounts. Oh. and the "stepside" of the F150 body used on the SRB and blackfoot makes it too narrow to fit over the TA01 chassis without mods. The King Blackfoot apparently fits
  25. PadlaTrack 16.50-15 - Sandscorcher Grasshopper rears Smoothee 4.50-15 - Sandscorcher, Superchamp, Frog, Grasshopper Fronts OffRoader 4 grooves - Holiday Buggy, Sand Rover Fronts
