  1. Why is it so hard these days to find replacement body sets for Tamiya Kits? It used to be you could easily find online direct tamiya replacement bodies? Not it seems near impossible to find any direct replacements from Tamiya, what you get from the kit is the only one you can ever have? Anyone know anything I do not, or know where to find them?
  2. I just finished mine last week. I am really enjoying it. I suggest at minimum the 4ink suspension and steering fix
  3. If anyone is interested! 2300kv -2600kv seems to be the sweet spot for this chassis! Very manageable, wheelies awesome, very quick in the straights and overall still very controllable. :-)
  4. I installed a roll cage with LED lights tonight. Took a while to come in from China of course. Its a meal roll cage with some axial light pods on it. I installed a powered switch on channel 3 of the receiver. So I can trigger the lights on and off with the remote using channel 3 and the lights are also powered by the 6V coming from the receiver port! I think it looks pretty **** cool :-D I have a similar setup on my Fast Attack!
  5. Installed a Tamiya TBLM-02s 15.5T Brushless Motor in the GF01. About 2600KV, so speedwise, about the same as a sport tuned 540, but considerably more torque. The GF01 and this motor are a near perfect match, fast enough and still very controllable, even with the crawler tires, the kit was very stable at speed!
  6. LOL I did not intend to get everyone so excited! Just ALLOY PARTS! Yeah, I am going with a very low KV Brushless, just a little faster than the Silvercan, I just like the off the line power and smoothness of the sensored brushless.
  7. I have been wanting to do this build for some time, long term Tamiya kid (since the 1980s) And I have owned a WR02 since right after the kit came out, I finally got around to Building my GF01, but I wanted to go all out on this one! First I obtained the kit, I wanted the one with the unpainted shell (seems to be getting harder to find?) Then I went and purchased just about every alloy part I could get my hands on. Suspension components are a combination of GPM, Active Hobby, and Yeah Racing! I also included full ball bearings and radio gear from Spektrum. So to start the build, I got all of the parts organized prior to the assembly! So of course starting with the gearbox. I used Tamiya Anti-wear grease in the differentials. The gear box./ chassis was very easy to assemble. I replaced the Phillips head screws with some hex head ones from CRP (found on EBAY) in the same length to install the motor. I am using the silver can "torque tuned" motor right now, but I am going to try a few motors in the chassis and wanted something easier and not to worry about rounding out the Phillips screws. Next to assemble all the 3rd party suspension components. Front and Rear lower ARMS from GPM, Front and Rear upper arms from Active Hobby, Rear Hubs GPM, From C-Hub Yeah Racing, and Turnbuckles are GPM. Dampers are from GPM. Next, to get the electronics and servo installed. Using Spektrum 3-channel (Auxiliary channel is for LED's later on) I am using a Turnigy high torque servo and for now, the Tamiya Brushed/Brushless ESC will get the job done. \ Now time to get the final bits on the chassis, and install some wheels. I used the optional White Wheels on the OEM tires, I am saving those for when I try the Brushless motor out. For now, I am using some crawler wheels I had laying around, they are Tamiya Hummer wheels with some good rubber on them. Time for paint! I was determined to pain this kit using NO DECALS. All paint, I have yet to learn and purchase airbrush gear after all these years (near 30 years of RC on and off) but I am learning ASAP! I did all the paint on the body using rattle can, tape, and a lot of patience. So What does everyone think of the final product? I am really happy with it! No Decals other than the tiny Tamiya Logos, all rattle can paint and of course brush on the Driver. I have ran the kit with the silver can and its really stable with those tires on it (must be the weight??) even did some light crawling uphill. I am going to install a Tamiya 15.5T Brushless motor and see how it handles with the crawler and the stock tires today! Ill post more pics and video!
  8. I want quick and torquey , but not put of control fast Also as I am mostly new to Brushless only messing in the last month with the TBLE-02s and the TBLM 15.5T Brushless motor. I wanted to get some solid Electronics with all these unfamiliar brands.
  9. I am about to do a pretty epic GF01 build, full alloy, the works. I want to run a Brushless setup. I tried to run Brushless in my Wild Willy 2 using a Tamiya TBLE-02s and a TBLM 15.5T sesnored Brushless. Basically the Wild Willy was near uncontrollable. To my understanding the GF01 is a much more stable platform and can handle more power / speed. I have read that the TBLM-02 15.5T is 2600kv. So I was thinking 3000kv would be good for the GF01? I was looking at the Turnigy Trackstar 3000kv http://www.hobbyking...idproduct=25137 Or this Hobbywing 3000kv http://www.hobbypart...-combo-js3.html What is everyone's thoughts on a solid Brushless wheeelie setup? Thank You!!!!
