  1. I would suggest "trial and error" time guys ;)

Disconnect the gear shift servo, then, using the clips supplied for locking the gearbox in one gear using a 2 channel radio, lock it in first, then second, then third, and see if all gears work by turning the gearbox over with the rear wheels. If they won't all engage, there's a gearbox problem. If they do engage, shift servo adjustments are wrong. The gearbox part of the build on my King Hauler was the one part I wasn't overly impressed with, as the diagrams were a little confusing.

As far as the truck won't move; I would check and read the MFU instruction book very carefully. One of the functions is "engine revving" so the truck won't move, but the rev's increase through the speaker. Another possibility; What Transmitter/ radio gear are you using?? I am using the Futaba T4EXA, and the stick modes were wrong, so that the right stick when moved forwards or backwards made the truck move! It was a simple fix, by going into the "Mode" programming in the transmitter, and changing it. Failing all that..... Double check your wiring, if that doesn't work, unplug the motor wires, and plug in another motor, just to see if a different motor works. If it does, maybe a dead motor, or the gearbox is jammed in 2 gears at once??

Hope this helps guy's, it's about all I can think of, off the top of my head ;)

  2. As far as I am aware, shops are obliged to sell for the price that they have marked it up at! I also think that the huge increase in price is unreasonable. Could always try Time Tunnel, or Modelsport. Might be worth phoning the them, rather than ordering on-line. Or go to your LHS, and ask them if they can price match, or better it?

I would say that the TEU-101-BK is a good call. They are probably one of the best budget ESC's out there, and they are really smooth in operation as well. The brake facility is really smooth and progressive, perfect for a truck.

The Tractor Trucks are great fun to build, and there is plenty of stuff on "You Tube" to drool over. Be warned.... You'll find yourself saving hard for the MFU though ;)

There's an excellent video on TC, titled "Ice Pond Truckers". Well worth a look. I don't know that I would have had the bottle to do it though! ;)

Have fun with the build, and good luck :P

  3. Glad to see that it's coming on nicely! ;) Just out of interest...What's that bodyshell from??

I say build as a runner. I personally think that the Super Champ drives better than the other SRB's, and the stock chassis has been fine on mine. When you build the rear suspension, and mono shock, make sure that you do fit the band stoppers, and cable ties, to hold the rear arms from dropping to far, and start with a little tension on the rear spring. If you don't, it will roll, and wind up on it's roof! ;) Trust me, I found this out the hard way........ Luckily I had my runner body on it when it flipped!

My avatar picture is my Super Champ, getting thrashed at a motocross track :P

  4. I think the smartest move would be to shop around on the net, rather than ebay, you might be able to get a good deal, if someone has one in stock, at the old price. Unfortunately it's all down to the weakening pound :( I recently ordered a receiver, and got a nasty shock on the price! :D

Bearings are a really good place to start upgrading, I guess you could fit a lighting kit and stuff, while saving up for the MFU :)

  5. Hi,

I had a similar problem when I installed the MFC01 ino my King Hauler, except my servo's didn't work! Mine was easily cured by pulling the servo leads out the MFU, and turning them round. Might be worth a try, as it sounds like the servo wires are in to wrong order going into the MFU, if you get what I mean.

I'm using Futaba servo's, and radio gear.

    Hope this helps :D

  6. "I have a 1983 stock Lada. Anyone want to race me for their pink slips? B) "

Oh dear, that has just reminded me of a really embarassing moment in my life.......... A Rover with a V8 in it that I used to own got blown into the weeds by a Lada!! :) It was a beige coloured Riva.......Didn't feel quite so embarrased when I found out that it had got a tuned 2.0 litre Fiat twincam in it! ;)

  7. Welcome aboard! ;)

I've just built a King Hauler over christmas, my first truck build. I have to admit, I found the build quite straight forward, and certainly easier than my re-re Hotshot! Well worth ordering a full bearing set for the Hauler before you start the build. I think I got mine off ebay for about a tenner.

You have definately come to the right place for help and advice. there are plenty of helpful people on here :)

  8. Hi David :D What you need to build the King Hauler is a bit of a "the sky's the limit" type thing :) I had a few choices to make before I built mine. Kept wondering whether to shell out for the MFU. Glad I did! It's made me smile lots, with the lights, vibration effects, sound effects, etc, but I guess for a basic build, you just need a 4 channel stick radio set, and some paint ;)

Hi Stefan, so what trucks are you building?? I have to admit that I'm not up on computer games, but I can imagine that they can be addictive :D I have to admit, I have done a lot less with my RC stuff over the last few weeks, as I have finished most of my projects, and the King Hauler has ground to a halt. Just waiting for the weather to warm up a little, so I can have another go at painting the cab

Hi Blakeatron, I like the Scania build. Look forward to seeing the finished pics. I quite fancy having a go at doing a custom build, but so far haven't been brave enough! I really like the look of the Reefer trailer. I think it's the most impressive looking trailer that Tamiya do at the moment. Time to save up some pennies B)

  9. I agree with Nick83- The media have a lot to answer for...... Very quick to jump in when there is some scare mungering to be had. The only time you hear anything positive these days is on the local news.

I agree that Tamiya should start putting bearings, and oil shocks in all kits. I suppose it could be reasoned that they make more money again on the kit by selling dampers and bearings as hop up parts, but then again they don't!! Take a TL01 for example, a full Tamiya bearing set for that costs a whopping 70GBP (or at least it did last time I looked in my LHS) and a set of TRF dampers will see off another 50 to 60GBP. Go on ebay, buy a full bearing set for 8GBP, and a set of non Tamiya alloy bodied oil shocks for about 17 GBP!!

The only argument I can see for including friction shocks in a kit, is that they are easier to put together for a beginner. I was a little miffed that my King Hauler came with friction shocks....I admit that they are very pretty alloy ones, but come on, that kit costs a small fortune.....

My Friend has his own RC shop, and one budget RC car that he carries is the Ansmann Smacker. I had a look at one last time I was there, and I was trying to work out how they put all that in the box for under 100! Comes with oil shocks, the lot! I think there is a good market for the RTR stuff, but the one thing that Tamiya does have over the cheap RTR's is the detail in the bodies. Some cheap RTR's just look awful to me :)

  10. There's a lot of cool ideas and project on here! ;)

    My hopes and dreams for 2009 are as follows;

Wild One.....I want one! Just want to find the right car, and not have to pay a kings randsom for restoring a dog

Sand Scorcher..... Just need to find a SS shell, and exhaust to make it right....probably will wind up paying a kings randsom!! :)

King Blackfoot...... Get oil shocks, and working headlights

King Hauler and Pole Trailer....... Just need to get my finger out, and finish it!!

Vintage Frog....... Make an appointment with an exorcist- Im sure it's cursed!

Blazing Blazer.....Find some cool new custom made rims, that take modern tyre sizes, then go and find some mud to play in :D

King Hauler No.2.....Find another Hauler, and Tanker trailer, to do a custom build with

Oh, and remortgage the house to pay for the above!!

  11. You're not alone!! I too worship the grail of the mighty blue oval!! ;)

I sold my Capri last year ;) 1600 Laser, 2.8i special wheels, recaro interior, slightly lowered......I used to have a silver 1600LS with the factory fitted 5 speed box as well :) They were both daily drivers, hence the 1600 5 speed theme!

Me and the Mrs now have 3 Mk2 Escorts between us. Just took delivery of another 1600 Ghia! :D

  12. I had blisters like that after trying to get my mum and dads decrepit lawn mower running! It's amazing how quick a pull start can leave your hands with big blisters........

Took the Sand Scorcher out over Christmas, and got bored of keep watching the front wheel fly off it........Note to self; put cable ties round the front suspension to stop the ball races popping out!!

Still haven't found the courage to take the "Ribbit Of Death" out for a run yet-- AKA my vintage Frog. Everytime I run it, it seems to self destruct!

  13. I would suggest the window netting from the re-re Hotshot. It comes as a small sheet that you cut to size, and I am pretty sure that the sheet would be big enough to do the side windows on a Sand Scorcher. The other car I have that came with window netting is the Super Champ.

    Hope this helps

  14. Hi Chaps,

few questions on my King Blackfoot. I want to get rid of the pogo sticks that are on each corner of it, and get some decent oil dampers on it. I've looked on ebay for the shockers recommended in the instruction manual, the CVA's were a little expensive, but the Hicap dampers were "HOW MUCH"!!!!! Are there dampers from other Tamiya's that will fit, or any after market shockers that work well?? Also I have noticed with the kit supplied pogo sticks, that the inside of the front tyres catch the bottom spring cup on full lock

I am also thinking of fitting LED's to the front lights. Looks to me like the front headlight buckets are already set up for this! Does anyone know of a kit to fit them??

    Thanks in advance,

    Rich :)

  15. "Keep the wheels spinnin' and the beavers grinnin" in the words of Snowman, on "Smokey And The Bandit"................ :(

The King Hauler lives!! Had it moving under it's own steam tonight, around the living room. It's had the Mrs and me smiling, with the MFU. Horn honking, air brakes, reverse bleeper, turning the lights on and off

I had a bit of a head scratcher with the Futaba Transmitter though..... Throttle was working off the right stick, and the horn off the left!! Read the transmitters manual again, and found out how to change the mode. Sorted ;)

Was hoping to get the body repainted today, but it's been about -4C, and 1 Mk2 Escort with a dead front wheel bearing, and another Mk2 Escort which just plain refused to start......Hopefully tommorow morning, then hopefully I can get it finished! :D

  16. For me, it's boils down to the old thing of "it's only worth what someone os willing to pay for it". Fully original, mint Sand Scorchers really are fetching strong money at the moment. In the last six months, one came up on ebay, very close to where I live. It was nice, but definately needed work, and wasn't a runner. I think if I had offered them 150 GBP for it on the spot, they would have taken it, but they were really nice people, so I didn't, but I did bid on it......... I got out bid, and it sold for a massive 360GBP! :( That'll teach me for being Mr nice guy B)

There are still bargains to be had, but I think you have to be on ebay everyday, and aim to try and grab something newly listed. I recently bought a brand new rear cage, on a BIN, for 30GBP, all in. Bargain! :D I was lucky, it came up on there, 10 minutes before I logged in.......Couldn't hit the BIN quick enough!!!!

I have to admit, I have seen a few recently, that really do look gorgeous, very strong money being asked, but when you look really closely at the pictures, they are far from perfect
