Yeah, I think my Mrs was quietly impressed by the shinyness, and engineering prowess of my Blazing Blazer. She was surprised at the weight of it as well.
Luckily for me, she hasn't noticed the puddle of oil under it yet, where it's leaked all over the book case!!!!!

Bummer. Oxford is a fair trip. I've been through that way a couple of times
Any Truckers who could keep Lilman company for a Trucker meet?? Or is the poor guy stuck out there on his own

-
If it's any help Alistair, My Blazing Blazer came with period Acoms radio gear, and the monster reciever has the rubber bung for the crystal, where the tag for the crystal comes out the side of the bung, and is visible. I know it's a different set up to yours, but same style and period.
Hope this helps,
Rich

Not too far away; Derbyshire. Takes just over an hour to Lincoln. I've got a King Hauler, and Pole Trailer to build at Xmas, so it would be cool to meet some other Truckers.
-
I think what has helped me get away with it recently is Mrs Retroman has a huge love of going Carp fishing. That can swollow some money up!! If she blows a hundred quid on fishing gear, I don't feel so bad about blowing the same on a new project.

Great picture!!
I could do something around the Lincolnshire area

I sold my car on ebay recently, and felt a little sore after the listing, and final value fees...............

I suppose that if there was enough interest, you could always speak to the organiser of a vintage truck show, and see of they would let you book a club area, which you could corden off, then do demo's with the RC trucks all day??
A lot of organisers love this kind of thing, as it's another attraction for the punters

Look on the bright side, an RC car never moans at you, and never fills potential RC storage space with shoes and clothes
I'm very lucky, my wife is very understanding/ tollerant of my fascination with RC and slot cars. The only comment I get is to put more shelves up to store them! She does have a super modified TL01, but seldom uses it. I think I have got about 16 RC cars now, and about 100 slot cars, so I guess I am really lucky that she is so understanding.

I was recently thrashing my Frog at a bash, got radio interference, and it went full throttle into a deep puddle! The only parts that weren't submerged were the spoiler, and the aerials!!

Is you Boomer going to be a runner??
-

I know what you mean about runners. I take mine out to a meet about twice a month, then spend the rest of the month stripping them and cleaning them
Always a good laugh getting them like that. Last month I had to stop dead as the ESC's had took in water! -
I've had the Blazer running round my backyard, and seems OK. The house brick batteries have even taken a charge!!!
I'm still interested in coming along, just need to see about a day pass from the boss, and see what the "W" word will be like on the day. Not scared of the cold, but don't want to get soaked!!

That looks lovely now
Looks like it was in fairly good condition to start with, just very dirtyAre all the cars in the back ground on the "to do" list??

The whole solvent issue is to do with vehicle bodyshops, and such like, who use over a certain tonneage a year, thus the change from solvent bourne, to water based paints. What makes a mockery of it to me is that after applying the water based colour, it has to be covered with a solvent based clear lacquer!!
There are concessions for paints that are used for hobbyists, so we should be OK, and I would suspect that it is a labelling issue. This is the explanation I have been given by my LHS.

If you go to page 2 of vintage discussions, you'll find a previous thread of mine "Vintage 3 speed question". In there is a link to an excellent on line manual, that one of the guys on this forum pointed me to.
It's brilliant, and it tells you the amount of shims to put behind each bearing. Happy reading!!

-
Erm... I would post a picture, but in an act of over enthusiasm, I've put it all back together!!!
I think you might be right, about the pinion, but the spur definately will need replacing. It's a shame that the gear assembly isn't like the one in "The Frog", so you can swap just the large part of the gear.
-
Yeah, I'm sure there must be something else out there that will fit

-
Had the same thoughts last week, while doing the 3 speed tranny on my Blazer. Carefully rebuilt it, carefully sealed between all the joints, put a rubber shielded bearing in the lower casing where the front axle drive shaft comes out, and it still leaks like a sieve!!
Not too worried though, at least it gets an oil change everytime I run it!! As for the oil, I'm using 30W silicone shock oil in mine. It shifts gear really nicely using this :-)

If you're looking for the springy type aerial, and mounting pin, I used one for a 1/14 tractor truck (such as the King Hauler) for my Sand Scorcher. Found one on ebay really cheap :-)
-
Yeap, I've had similar experiences with cheap battery packs........ recently bought some Nosram 2200 ni-cad stick packs, and they're utter rubbish. Tried cycling them on my ProTrak charger, to see what was up, and they just melted the heat shrink. I now think they are just false economy.
My favourites now are the Tamiya stick packs, which are really punchy, or GP3300's. OK, they do cost more, but they far outlast cheap packs, which I suppose makes them cheaper in the long run:-)

Thanks Geoff,
I guessed the pinion might be interchangable with something else, but I never would have guessed on a Black and Decker drill!!
I'll carry on looking on ebay, never know your luck. At the end of the day, I suppose that one from a Bruiser, or Mountaineer would also fit in place of the HiLux/ Blazer one?? Is the only difference the slipper clutch?
Cheers,
Rich :-)

Hi Lars,
Excellent site, and the on-line manuals have been really usefull for my Super Champ, Sand Scorcher, and Blazing Blazer projects. It's been fantastic knowing that there is a site where I can get the info I need on vintage cars.
keep up the good work!
Thankyou,
Rich :-)

Hi Guy's,
Need the following for my Blazing Blazer project;
Motor Pinion
Spur Gear
Rear Bumper
The Bumper is not quite so important, but I need the gears to get the old beast up and running again.
Many Thanks,
Rich :-)

Sounds Interesting!
I might pop along for a bit of 3 speed fun, if I can get my Blazing Blazer finished in time. Just need a couple of parts.

That's a good one. I've never heard of anyone who makes scale static caravans before!!
On topic a bit more...... Do you do CNC machining, or gear cutting?? I need a replacement spur gear assembly for a vintage 3 speed. I was watching an aftermarket alloy "hop-up" one on ebay, didn't catch the end of the auction, but when I last looked, it was on 70 quid!! Needless to say, I wasn't the winning bidder. Suggests to me that there are plenty of people out there who need one
