  1. Thanks for the info! Got the necessary part on order already
  2. Aah! The fog has cleared! Anyone know of a specific tamiya (or alternative) part number I can look for?
  3. Surely an 18 tooth pinion would be too fine pitched (if it was the same diameter), or to big (if it was the same pitch)? I think I'm missing something obvious here.......
  4. I have a re re grasshopper, that I have purchased a 540 size motor for. I am having trouble finding the correct pinion that I need for this. It seems that I need a 10 tooth pinion, of a fairly large diameter. I have tried eBay, but so far haven't had any luck, can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks, simon
  5. He made them himself! I am planning on adding a bunch of period correct race shop stickers to mine to add to the '70s feel.
  6. By "toe in" do you mean positive camber? On a swing axle beetle (like mine), the rear wheels will tip outwards as the suspension is raised. Not sure how visible it is in the pics above, but you can definately see it as the car heads down the road It's also visible on the sand scorcher box art. It sounds like the brat is going to be the one to go for, but i am a bit put off by the solid rear axle. Is this really much of a problem? The body i have used to be mounted on a tamiya touring car chassis (TL01?) with pin spike tyres. Worked well on tarmac, but was pretty poor on any rough stuff.
  7. sand scorcher replica build up thread: http://www.bajaclub.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic...f=12&t=3906 and a vid of a few of our club members at a recent VW festival: Just like a tamiya club meetup really, only all the cars are driven to and from the track!
  8. Wow! That looks great Is the brat chassis the same as the frog? Did you make the nose piece yourself? It looks slightly different to the sand scorcher box art. Would it be a good idea for me to carve one up out of balsa, or would it be too fragile? One of the guys in the baja club is building a full sized sand scorcher, exactly as per the box art, i will just find a link for you guys.........
  9. The baja cost me 1500 to build (including donor car).... .....i'm sure that it's possible to spend more than that on an RC Is there anything specific to look out for if i buy a second hand chassis?
  10. i noticed that complete brat kits are available for under 100. is there much that can be done to upgrade etc?
  11. Hi everyone! I have just signed up here to get some info for a project i am planning. I want to build an RC version of my baja bug: I already have an old monster beetle shell, but i need a nose section & headlights for it. Also, i will need a suitable chassis. A "proper" sand scorcher chassis would be ideal, but far too expensive! Could you guys recommend a chaeply available, rwd, rear motored chassis that has fully independant suspension and won't be damaged by a bit of sand? Also, i would like to have a selection of wheels & tyres, one set as per the real car, and a set of sand paddles for use on the beach! Thanks
