  1. Thanks for that ! Only got it to practice with and not looking to hop up the old girl so thats not a problem regarding upgrading, but at least I know what it is now.The hump on the side isnt realy noticeable and would,nt let that put you off to much.Know how you feel as the Tamiya was my first choice but the price difference was a big deciding factor given it was my first RC car..Thanks again for the ID..
  2. Well I managed to get a 2nd hand Tamiya Mitsubishi In Makinen Livery..Have no idea how old it is or what chassis etc .If anyone can shed some light on it ,it would be most appreciated! Picked it up today and all works with very few marks on it,so will give it a charge and have a play tomorrow. And one of the Kyosho
  3. Its a Koyosho!! Parted with the cash on saturday and came home with the subaru bodied item..Have to say that I am pleased with the purchase and after spending a little time getting used to things have discovered that I realy need to spend time sharpening my reflex,s ... ..Learning to use the car to its best may take a little time but sure looks like a load of fun getting to know it!..In the meantime I am going to look at the possibility of buying an electric motor version which will allow me to use it more around home being quieter and allow me to get used to things control wise so as I dont trash the nitro car...Well thats the line I intend to spin the better half in the hope she will see things my way and throw in a some cash as an early christmas present! ...
  4. Once again many thanks to all who have taken the time to answer my questions..At the weekend I am taking a trip to the nearest shop that has stock of the Kyosho which is 50 miles away! ...Its eye opening just how many model shops around my area are closed!..Also have found a dealer much closer who can order the Tamiya so will take take a look at what they have to offer and hopefuly have a chat regarding what is best.I think that either will be up to the job regarding use,the dirt tracks are very compacted and dont think that gound clearance will be to much of and issue.Regarding the buggy option, sound idea but again there are lots of tarmac lanes away from civilisation where I think my first choice will excel and provide good fun..Will let you all know how I get on at the weekend and what I have purchased or ordered....Much appreciated the advice from all!!!.....
  5. Well some food for thought there!.Thank you all very much for your reply,s! I appreciate what you are saying regarding the nitro engine costs etc but where our caravan is sited on a farm in wales there is no electric hook up so am unable to re-charge an electric version and this is where I intend to use the car most.Maintenence wise I hopefuly have things covered as have been in the motor trade for 30 years and somewhere along the way must have gathered enough knowledge to help...fingers crossed there! but if I get stuck and judging from the response you have given me I am sure help would be on hand here.Kyosho seems to be the way to go from what you are saying regarding parts and availability then, please understand that I have not posted here to run any one model down but merely wanted some good sound advice from veteran owners to prevent me from wasting my money Regarding the enviroment where the car will be run, like stated there are tarmac lanes to provide fun but also there are some compacted dirt roads leading off onto the wilderness where we walk and so was wondering if anyone would know if the car would cope with this terrain? Not looking to run it through mud and sludge etc but the lanes are mainly compacted dirt & shale where vehicles have driven along ,must also mention that there are no houses, farms or built up areas near so the noise would not be an issue.......Once again appreciate your comments and please keep them coming as I need to be as sure as I can before parting with my hard earned
  6. Well my 1st post went in the Tamiya section...looked further down the board and found the Koyosho bit..So rather that type it all out again if anyone fancies helping out in the best choice for my needs (Tamiya or Koyosho) please take a look and let me have your opinion on the matter ....thanks http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=46468
  7. Hi and thanks for letting me in! Well as the title says I am a newbie to RC and looking to buy my first glow engined car..Now have been looking at the Tamiya XBG series subaru,s but it seems that model shops localy are... A-few and far between and somewhat a dying breed and B-seem to push the Kyosho equivalent ? Now the thing is I have no idea whats available Tamiya wise or how the two compare,my first choice was the Tamiya as its a name I recognise so I was wondering if anyone could help me out regarding whats available still and how the Kyosho compares to the Tamiya?Have till the weekend to gather as much Tamiya info as poss as believe it or not the nearest helpful RC shop is over an hour away from me by car! Is the XBG model any use on dirt as where I intend to use it has tarmac lanes and some dirt tracks leading off into woods etc .Dont expect it to perform in muddy pits but hope its up to a little muck and dust! So basicaly any help and advice is greatly appreciated to help a virgin RC fellow make the right choice !..Definately need info on what model XBG Subaru WRC kits are still available besides the 2007 Monte Carlo!! Thanks in advance...........
