  1. Hi all, Has anyone got a measurement for how far I need to move the front body mount hole on a Monster Beetle shell to fit an SRB ? I'm having trouble lining up manually.... Thanks!
  2. Nice buggy! What's the plan? Runner or shelfer ?
  3. That's good news if they made quite a few of them...... means that the market is lively for re-releases/limited editions. Seems strange they would make that for the Japan market only though.
  4. Actually most licensing deals are for a fixed period of time, so it's very unlikely that Tamiya still have the rights now. I'm sure they've long expired. That said personally I think the SS re-release is in the bag. The licensing isn't a reason to not do it. It's a no brainer low hanging fruit winner for them in light of the RR re-release.
  5. No, it's not a showroom collection here. I think you mean this one:- http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?...=42014&st=0
  6. That's probably the fastest way to becoming a millionaire... (unfortunately from the wrong direction). I've heard mixed feelings from collectors about the SRB re-re but overall most are extremely positive about it.
  7. If you scale up the speed of the 1:1 to match an SRB, it would also be uncontrollable I find them great fun to drive, which is the main thing on a beech. Modern buggys will of course completely out-perform them. Maybe I'm guilty of being a bit nostalgic (more than likely), but I actually enjoy the way that they handle. Absolutely - that's a whole part of the overall vibe.
  8. Great! It's what they were designed for. It's the one place you don't want a diff, and also the one place you're not likely to break much.
  9. The body looks great! Nice detailling. I've never liked the Super Champ tires on the SS though (personal thing I guess). What are you doing for the front bumper ?
  10. I'll buy the shell from you if that helps...
  11. Looks like it would wheelie pretty well ! Definitely not a Mardave, and as you can probably guess definitely not a Tamiya. Any reason to assume that it's not home made ? As far as I can see from the pic it's only the front suspension that looks cast.
  12. If it has to be vintage, an SRB. If that wasn't a restriction something cheap lightweight and very fast in a straight line (or near vertical)
  13. Probably either a bug or Googles crawlers going nuts...
  14. It's a typical marketing strategy to stretch the truth somewhat Thanks for the correct. Is this part correct:- If so, I can see the historical significance, even if the car was rubbish, and sold badly..... it was the start of something. Given what you say though, and in light of the commercial flop that it was, I can't really see them re-re-ing it. If they're looking to re-write history I can see that they'd probably rather bury it!
  15. Any info on spares yet BadBoy ? Can you imagine how many replacement radio boxes will get sold....
  16. I'm intersted in how this works! How do you stop the paint overspray going everywhere ?
  17. Exactly. So everyones perception of nostalgia is slightly different. From Tamiya's point of view the SRB was signifcant as it was the "first" for them of many new ideas such as full water-proofing and metal scale chassis etc. I think the 30th Anniversary makes it special for them, but for the customer it totally depends on how old you are.
  18. I think that's amazing value for money given it must be a very expensive kit to produce.
  19. Yes I can see the historical significance if it ended up being the foundation for TRF.
  20. I think we all have to be in the never say never camp given the Buggy Champ re-re, but that said my understanding is that the Avante was a commercial flop first time around. I think that makes it more unlikely to be re-re'd. With what audience? Is it in part ledgendary due to rarity as a result of not selling well? If so, I don't imagine it could be legendary within Tamiya could it?
  21. Let's not forget that Tamiya is a business, so it's basically all about money. For that reason I don't think that we'll wait and wait, I think we'll know quite early on based on the success of the Buggy Champ. If the Buggy Champ is a hit and they sell a ton of them, the SS is in the bag. It's as simple as that in my mind. If there's money laying around you, you pick it up, especially in this market - doing anything else is un-business like and Mr T is actually a badword of a businessman in my opinion and won't leave money on the floor. Any licensing issues can simply be overcome as Wandy says, if the business case stacks up. So we'll know soon enough. I also think that the Buggy Champ is Tamiya dipping a toe in the re-re market for early models. If it flies, I think we could see a lot of other early and interesting models re-re'd. But at least with the Buggy Champ, if it's a flop, they can say they did it for historical reasons (30 year anniversary) and just bury it real quick. So it's pretty low risk for them.
  22. Must have missed that. Is there a pic in a thread here showing them ??
  23. I'm not sure this re-re will have all that much impact on the prices of a complete SRB or an NIB original. It is likely to have a big affect on parts pricing, which is great for the real collectors out there that might not be able to afford the £100+ for a decent radio box. In fact, prices of complete originals could actually go up if the re-re fuels nostalgic demand. Imagine all of the partially complete SRB's that can now get completed too. That's great isn't it ? It's also convinced me to take out my original 1980's SS out bashing again, even if (for the moment) only with the Blitzer shell on it. I wonder how many others will also start dusting off shelfers and attic-queens. Again, I think that's a great thing - all good for the hobby.
  24. Personally I think the SS re-release is a given. I do agree with the rumour that they'll keep it quiet for now as it could hurt the sales of the Buggy Champ. For me, the idea of being able to bash with a few friends with a RR, a SS and a Ford Ranger SRB all together is just too compelling for words. Can't wait!
