  1. Hi all,

I mostly run electric so wore out my 10 year old Ansman 1/8 buggy basher for the first time yesterday :). The clutch no longer engages until I get the RPM right up high, so I assume I've finally worn out my clutch shoes.

Lots of how to videos on youtube so I think I'm comfortable changing them (Picco .21 engine and it has a 3 shoe type clutch).

But not much advice on what shoes to buy and what springs and if I should replace the bell clutch part as a matter of course while I'm at it? Do I go for a vented bell if I do, or for off-road is it better to have a closed one?

Any advice would be appreciated. I bash around in the garden (lawn mostly - fairly grippy surface) so performance isn't a real issue for me.

    Thanks!

Had a Monday afternoon to myself so decided to start building my fighting buggy You forget how really good these SRB’s are to build everything just slots into place it’s making me want to get a buggy champ! I have some super champ mci decals which have been lounging around my decal draw for years which I’ll mix with the kit decals:)

    I'm liking the colour!

  3. Beadblasting is excellent and if you want to be able to do it yourself in the garage without all that kit a tumbler polisher with fine green media or walnut shell. It takes ages (at least 2 days) but it works great.

For an SRB gearbox you'd need to get a 3lb barrel otherwise it won't fit.

  4. I took my Mardave Meteor out for a spin :)

The shocks are spares I had in an old box - bought maybe 10 years ago and never used. Filled them with oil and they weren't bad at all. Running on a 2S LIPO - small one, 2000mAh so nice and light.

This buggy is a testament to Mardave it really is. I had forgotten how well it handles. There are no ballraces on the front wheels, it's plastic on steel, the gearbox is as basic as it gets, but the steering is bulletproof and the MSC is actually really good. Three speed via two resistors - OK not exactly efficient, but on a decent modern FASST TX/RX after a few minutes I completely forgot that it didn't have an ESC.

With better shocks I am convinced this would happily keep pace with my RC10. In fact, put RC10 shocks on it and you pretty much have a poor mans RC10 which I guess is exactly what it was designed to be.

<edit>Just wanted to add the diff works great too and steering circle on this thing is fantastic. I'd put it up against a lot of modern 2WD buggies frankly. The glory years maybe - peak 1/10 ?</edit>

    Great job Mardave.

  5. Thanks for the lead to CML Facebook. I found this:-

Despite our repeated pleas to consider allocating or producing more so we could at least go some way to clear the hundreds of pre-orders we received from dealers, we have been unsuccessful in our efforts to secure further stock of the RC10CC and RC10 Classic 40th models.

From May 31st. Several LHS are stating that they are working with CML on resolving this - the fact there is no firm "no more" yet, makes me think AE is probably accumulating back orders to see if worth doing another run or not.

So I guess it's a case of wait and see for the next few weeks.

Edit: just had email response from my LHS to say they are still working with CML on this, so as at 29th June it's not a firm "no more" but I agree it's not looking hopeful. My guess remains that AE will wait and see total demand before calling it.

  6. You're all right - glow ignitor(s) were the issue - all 4 of them!

Made my own by replacing the battery on one and bingo - all good, and now I'm behaving noisy and smelly - awesome :)

Buggy is currently stalling out under higher throttle - think it's maybe a bit lean. Going to richen up the HSN and have another go tomorrow.

  7. Hi All,

I'm normally an electric guy, but the hot weather for some reason has made me want to blow the dust off my old Ansman Nitro 1/8th buggy from about 2002.

It's in good order - last run maybe 2-3 years ago. It has a glow plug in it, and I had 3 which were unopened until today, bought new about 10 years ago plugs.

None of them work (have tried with 3 different igniters, all of which are good and showing 1.2v+).

They all have continuity, and show a DC resistance of 0.01 ohms - which sounds low to me, but would draw a heck of a current you'd expect to glow hot. They don't even get mildly warm.

Do they normally go bad over time? I've ordered some new ones just to be certain, but would be good to get your experience of what might be wrong.
