i got about 100 cars and kits stored somewhere the wife cannot find them. So don`t worry to get number 10 oder so.

    Do we not all ?

Got a stash of NIB's still at a mate's place.

Suddenly .. they will just.. - be there - ..

Oh no, there always been there..  you did not notice ? :)

    • Haha 1

  2. Nice way to do it !

I was usually take the cheapest chassis i still had laying around, ( F103 or something in that range )

And put as much "hp" on it until something went terrible/spectacular wrong

( and then proceed to call it a victory )

You sir.. are taking a sensible approach of doing it !

  3. That happened later to ( additions or , not listed items )

When i ordered kits straight from Japan , i always took the one's without the ESC .

( with ESC, they had a decal on them , on the box )  , and i did not want that. )

And as most of those kits where for collection  , not for build.. i did not want to spend the extra on a never to be used ESC.

A few kits came with a stock ESC anyway,  without the decal on the box.

Added by the seller..  or added by Tamiya ,  who would know..

No, you could strap me for to a torture chair for weeks, i can't remember what kits they where.

The TT-01 as it was original,  was still one of the most kommen chassis to order.

  4. Good finds ! however, nope.

he had buggy wheels like the Jet Hopper

"simular" rear wing, and i can't remember the front for the life of me.

It did not have a "turbo" option .

Think it took 8 (?) penlights / AA's for power.. or 4 .. * mutters about not remembering *.. but hey, that was over 30 years ago :) :) :)

    give me a break :)

TImewise..  anywhere between '85 and '89 is my best guess

As far i can recal, it did not have visual schock Absorbers , front was rigid ,as it would "bounce" all over the place.

( ah, now i remember.. it also did not have a "servo" for going left or right, but that "other type"

  5. In the Flakpanzer Gepard case ( nib ) , it was a actually lucky hidden-away find at some dude's place.

Nearly had one YESTERDAY... a original frog..

    Story :

Im a garbage dude, and one of the less fortunate jobs is doing clearings .. what means, people get -evicted- or for other reasons there house gets cleaned out

    by a pro team..

The entire content of a house gets dumped into a huge container.. ( here i come in ) , and i haul that off to dispose off.

So i dump the container , for privacy issue's of the person , it was quite obvious that house needed a clean and "empty" , the person who owned the place,

no idea what happened to him.  Not something i want to know anyway.

( as its not that unusual the owner had to be taken out also with people with hazmat suits )

Well , i close the container doors after dumping.. and my eyes drop on a buggy front wheel.. * closer inspection * , with a frog "knee" on it !

    * kicks aside some other misc stuff * .. frog body ..

( there was a misc lot of other rc gear in there, some boats.. planes and the odd chopper or 2  )

Well, did a quick scan.. but was not able to find back the full frog , it was 40 m3 of "waist" so .. yeah.. its a huge pile of "house content" .

( nope, did not take the stuff ) , as i could get fired on the spot for that. Its a big no-no in my work.

Anyway.. when you get cought.. and ( frog ) bits are no where even near worth the risk.

  6. Sir, you want getto ? .. getto you get :)

    1.thumb.jpg.332377e995e9842fd6a70ce649253195.jpg

As the original plastic is not strong enough for my driving skills

    2.thumb.jpg.be68f6cb7028b06818e9102bbd6d7ffb.jpg

Solid steel bars .. as ... yes, the original gave way due my spectacular driving style.

Yes, you are looking at a welded steel roll cage .. on a rc car..

Just a McGyver mod,  shed-door hinge as a body mount :)

  7. managed to sneak in some toy-time ,

FG Marder was begging for a front bumper ( mostly to protect the front suspension a bit against impacts.

( was always a better builder then a driver )  Managed to get that done.

And could not resist zooming around a bit with the dji phantom 1  ( it still lives! )

Resisted this time the urge to do 1 "hold my beer and watch this" flying so ,  it lives to do that another time.

So with that, i am improving .. a few flights without extensive repairs after !

  8. What i did was , i bought a load of chinees-food boxes ( the white one's, with the clear lids )

I numbered those, and in a pc file,  i wrote down what was in the numbered box..

So searching could go 2 ways,   the part.. or whats in the box..

Downside, after a break-in they stole the drive with on that.. yep.. the file what was in the boxes ...

So ended up with about 8 big cardboard boxes.. filled with numbered boxes.. what ment nothing !

Fast forward years further ( last month ) .. it might break your hart,  it turned out that those 8 boxes , after sorting, fitted in 2 huge "big waist" bags..

And off it went.. to the recycle center.

Ended up with 1 cardboard box with stuff i still knew what it was for , or was still new in the pack.

I just could not see myself sorting out that insane pile of unsorted parts.     Sometimes, you just got to restart stuff .

  9. My last one is boxed up , so no help from that atm.. YET..

    think 2x .. the 1/14 axels ( front especially ) are a bit wobbly - at best

There some options to make it more stable, but..   * mhe *

and at first glance look at the scx10 ( google )

Wayyy to narrow for your use.

  10. Ah missed it, im late..

Joke is, Volvo was one of the first with the F serieus in the '90 's with real good automatic gearboxes..

Heavy truck auto gearboxes is really "there thing" and at that time, used in several other brands as they could not make them proper.

( example, Renault trucks used Volvo gearboxes , and often re-branded engines as they where far better )

BUT at that time , most where manuals ( so yup, at the old FH12 it would be accurate )   And as some had a 3 way splitter, it would even match real close :p

I would prefer to use it on a old yank truck, or some army / offroad conversion , it would look indeed kind of weard on a newer Scania.

I forgot to mention, unless you put it on some -special- heavy hauler .. those are still sometimes used as manuals ( but, most are auto's also these days )

And the odd heavy offroad versions.   ( not the volvo ;p )

Truth is, if i would build a "new" Tamiya truck again.. i would leave out the entire gearbox.

  11. the Twin Detonator

Sold a long time ago , but by far the most run RC car i ever owned.

Fast, goes anywhere ( and that is before the time of lipo's and there power options it would have now )

And not to forget, insane strong , ran it bone stock ( minus bearings ) , that thing would just not give up.

  12. Spend wayyyy to much time again with relic software !

Had to tweak the Phantom 1 a bit , ( yep.. yep.. it still lives ) , but it turns out the nazaa control software does not work on my current pc.

The work-around tricks did not work to get it going on windows 10 ,  i'm just not the IT guy ;p

So, off to the garage.. where i got this old XP box running to run even older software , the control software of the Nomadio radio set.

E voila!  and the little old survivor drone could be controlled again .

    Mutters something about backwards compatible.

Oh, and finally got in my shipment of zap-a-dap-goo  ,  remember kids.. this stuff is the duck tape, tie wraps and glue all in one for the rc builder :)

  13. In truth ? done lots of stuff today :)

( mostly as it was my first long weekend / free time since December. )

Got the Leopard 2A6 working,  not only that.. as i found some shiny parts.. figured, to celebrate the fact

it worked again , it would be a terrible waist not to install those metal tracks and alloy front runner wheel.

    Why keep it boxed !

That, and could not resist messing around with the Phantom 1 ..  Like a big bug in the sky ;p

  14. Let me tell you , the dishwasher is a bad .. bad BAD.. plan.

Im a guy who's a real -tool- guy .. i prefer the better brands, and i try to maintain them ( must.. as , well.. i use them as intended )

So , here i was.. all in a spring mode .. ( last year actually ;p ) , and it was... tool-cleaning-time,  get all that oil, grease and mess off my spanners , ratchets and misc tools.

Wife was off to a frind,  and would be away for -hours!- ..

So, loaded the dishwasher with the tools.. dumped in a double dose of cleaner.. and , go go go little dishwasher.. do your thing !

And then .. wife came home , way more early then expected..  just to hear the "beep" of the dishwasher JUST being done ..

Well,  she .. was not amused..  and she claims to have smelled diesel/oil/gas smell off the normal dishes for weeks...

    • Haha 3

  15. Yep, kind of happy with it to ( its was always one of my all-time-favorite Tamiya kits .

Gearboxes seems to be fine,  must say.. i did ( at that time ) build them with sealed bearings and some lube's that

surprisingly stays intact for decade's .  Its the stuff i also use on bashers, and while recovering those, there all intact and took

    a bigger abuse :)

I really think a metal .50 looks "seksy" , they come at a price but.. - worth it -  :)

I going "pimp" this one also with some more loadout , mostly to hide the battledamage
