  1. As the title states. i want a vintage Hornet and frog to complete my collection "I wanted that as a kid". No re releases please. as long as the chassis is complete they can be without bodies and electronics. shipping to Germany also preferred (but UK only is possible).
  2. I wanted to do some research on what paints work with Polycarbonate shells and found...well not a lot. aside from airbrushing the likes of fastkote or Tamiyas obligatory PS range of paints most people don't try anything else. i am new to polycarbonate bodies (newish) preferring hard bodies but sometimes there is no other option. What if I wanted an obscure colour not available in the PS range of colours? i have painted (over 10 years ago) a racing Mini Cooper body with standard Halfords acrylic aerosol and its lasted really well. No cracks or flaking. But what if I wanted a more obscure colour? I suspect Holts mix and match sprays won't do as I believe they are cellulose based. Any ideas?
  3. Tamiya should see this and think "hmmm, that's how we should have done it!" its a much more worthy successor to the original Grasshopper and like Grastens says..."it's got me looking for a GH2!"
  4. I ordered some graphics from them. They arrived in but the registration between layers was off. Fair play though. They send out (express) a replacement set that where spot on. As someone that likes to restore original release Tamiya period graphics are key and they do a good job IMHO.
  5. Thanks guys. I like the idea of a slightly more complex build. I also like the scale feel of these things but looking around all i see on mainland Europe is 2 axle trucks. That being said a quick google search shows plenty of 3 axles about. Now R620 or Gigaspace....Hmmm
  6. I am looking to get a 1/14 truck. Its something i have hankered for, for a long time but never had the budget or skills to pull it off. Both are on par at the moment so i want to order one. I am not a fan of the American style and have narrowed it down to either the Scania or Mercedes tractor trucks. What i am confused (I have done it to myself) about is the difference between the 3 axle over the 2. Is it anything other than style? I am kinda leaning towards the Scania R620 fyi.
  7. Oh thank god...Its not just me! I used to drool over the RC guide book wanting a fox, Hotshot, Wild one, Brat. I finally have all (in various states of restoration) and my original Grasshopper (My parents eventually caved and scraped enough for one car) like you it took 30 years I feel so much better knowing i am not alone!
  8. I have a M38 (LWB) that was bought for €40 and a complete shed. I rebuilt it and spent a fortune on rare parts. Some WW2 parts (The winch for example and driver) but the tyres. Boy, if i had €1 for every forum post i see asking for tyres, bemoaning the price people demand for NIP vintage tyres and the lack of alternatives or replacements. If this where mine....I would clean it up, stick it on a shelf (on blocks) and buy my son a WW2 to bash. Only because i know the costs and headaches of restoration
  9. I mean absolutely no offense (Whatever floats your boat). But i am interested as to why? Surely the fun with these kits is building and running them (even if only once or twice). Where is the fun in owning a collection of NIB? As i say. I AM NOT meaning offence or questioning your sanity. I am just curious.
  10. Thanks for the suggestion on the setup. I moved the antenna last night and it improves things a lot but its not great for my intended purpose still. As you say Effigy3 its cogging and not smooth enough. I need to invest some more time in setting up this model and getting the cash together for a new ESC/Motor set (Theres only so much i can get by the Mrs with "Its only cots a tenner") Thanks again.
  11. Ill try again and move the antenna well out of the way. Long story short...I dont much care for the pistol grip Tx's so still use my 30+ year old 27MHz Acoms in all my 2ch stuff. The antenna is pretty long and ill try to relocate and try again
  12. Hi All. I wonder if someone out there with more experience in all things brushless than me can help. I have recently completed a TT-01E chassis build thats been tweeked for drifting (Its my first on road chassis and first attempt at drifting). I also have a Castle sidewinder 2 i bought used from this forum some time ago but never used. Its a 4600Kv sensorless setup. Now. It all works but i am not happy with the operation. The acceleration is awful. Real jerky and kind of hesitates and flicks to reverse for a fraction of a second. I have had brushless gear in boats and a few planes (that i havent taken too so well) and know this is sensorless and wondered if that was the cause? I assume the sensor is a positional one telling the ESC where the spindle is in relation to 0 (?) I am also pretty new to ESC as i dont get to drive often (too much work and building) and miss the linear feel to the analogue MSC as this Castle ESC seems to accelerate in a digital manner (it accelerates in clearly seen steps and not smoothly. If it is because its sensorless i was thinking of using this in a basher (where i dont need smooth defined acceleration) and get a 15T brushed motor and Hobbywing 1060. Any thoughts?
  13. I have one of the last non digital dremmels which is a beast that just takes all the abuse i can throw at it. They are worth the money. Whilst mine was in storage i bought a Lidl (Parkway) cordless one. It was ok but only 3 speed (Not variable) but it didnt last long. It stripped something inside so it went in the bin. I have a Proxxon at work (Very typical German brand) and thats every bit as good as the Dremmel BUT more expensive. Buy cheap, buy twice. You cant go much wrong with a Dremmel IMHO.
  14. I'm liking these! Off to the Baumarkt i go!
  15. I really like that. It's awesome. Such a massive improvement over the stock colours and makes me now like the GH2!! Top job IMHO.
  16. My first was in Christmas either 1985 or 1986. A Grasshopper i spied in my parents cupboard a month or so before Christmas. I had been lusting after the Subaru Brat and was initially disappointed to spy a Grasshopper. But i came round well before Christmas (To the point i tipped my parents off that i had seen it). Christmas day arrived and my dad had built it up but forgotten to charge the 6v battery and the deal only came with a wall brick slow charger...overnight to charge! Boxing day i took out the 380 powered 6v machine with its plastic bushes...I LOVED it. Still do as its the only original RC i have. Now fully restored and sitting on my shelf. All i ever wanted for that thing was a fast charger! My father reversed the MSC servo so down was accelerate. Something i do deliberately to this day.
  17. I agree completely with Grastens. Many a time i have painted away, layer after layer for it to turn out shocking! Nothing like my preliminary sketches or what i had in my head. But other times i have been unsure and turned out some of my favourites. You never know until the masking tape is all removed. Keep plugging away chap. Its nothing some wet N dry cant fix if you hate it at the end!
  18. Great. Now i just need a GH2. My wife WILL be pleased!
  19. I have never been a fond lover of the GH2. I had/have a Grasshopper from back in the day and was/am a HUGE fan of the fun this thing offers and its looks. However seeing that wing goes quite a long way to fixing the issues i had with the GH2 (looked too plain and budget IMHO). I could be tempted if the wings where to hit shapeways
  20. Everyones a critic! I am sure Pintopower knows what hes doing.
  21. Thanks for all the replies chaps. He caught me checking out kits last night and immediately pointed out the Amarok WT-01. That'll be the kit then Thanks again!
  22. All, I am looking for a little advise on what kit to purchase for my son. I have quite a few vintage cars and he keeps on that he wants one of his own. I know it needs to be rugged and not too fast. I wasnt sure on a truck (Lunchbox), Small basher/truck (Suzuki Jimny SJ30) or a small crawler like truck (Suzuki Jimny JB23). I plan on using a crawler motor (55T+) to keep the speed down which makes me wonder if the lunchbox will be plain dull (He sees mine whizzing around) The short wheelbase SJ30 could compensate for that or go with the semi scale go anywhere attitude of the MF-01X chassis? What have others done for very young drivers. My Mrs insists he too young. But he loves building stuff and learning how it all works so i want to take this opportunity to get him on board Well thats my excuse Thanks for your thoughts.
  23. I would be very interested in an unpainted wild...bird. Painting is half the fun of these things.
  24. Hi all. last year I was given a Sand rover for a birthday gift. I haven't had chance to even think about it...but I am now getting the build bug again and am planning it out. i have a castle brushless to go in and will replace the stock shocks with better old dampers, cover in the cutouts on the body and narrow it to look less like an interesting she'll on a buggy chassis. But I can't get away from the ugly DT-02 wheels. what options are there? I was hoping for a more scale look and tried some touring car wheels with grasshopper sand paddlers. The tyres are a tad wide for the rims but the right height/diameter but it doesn't help me on the front. how hard is it to covert over grasshopper rims to 12mm hex? Any other brands out there? i ask as there isn't that much relavent information to help with this. You can buy umpteen different sized wheels but then struggle to find tyres to suit. thanks for any help!
