Thanks for that advice - I will see what I can find on ebay and in my box of bits, and I'll make sure I use soft springs and a light oil for the dampers so they don't break anything!

Ideas for Classes for track time at Snetterton

Ah, then there's no excuse, there must be room for a 'Z track in there, or you could dedicate the old shop to it [] Astroturf - see minijosh's reply a few posts back on this topic. So I take it that's a rumour then [] -

Fair enough smmcc, ta for letting us know, I know there wasn't much room even for a Mini-Z in the shop last year, let alone a track for them []. What about the Astroturf, is that happening, or just a rumour? -
quote:Originally posted by stulec52 Go down to your local club. Ask questions. id="quote">id="quote">.. and don't forget to ignore them when they tell you Tamiyas aren't worth racing [] Most of the touring car clubs will allow standard Tamiya TL-01 etc cars to run, but you need to upgrade the motor, make sure you've got ball bearings too. That will give you a starter level car which you can run to get experience. As stulec52 says, the best way to find out what to run is to attend your local club for a while, and you will soon pick up lots of useful (and some not so useful) advice. The BRCA rules govern what you are allowed to run, the main parts which are covered are the motors, and size of the car chassis and body. The Tamiya 1/10th touring cars should all fit within the BRCA requirements, and some clubs are a bit looser than others regarding the rules for club racing (for example, at my club we can race the Mini Cooper against the 1/10th touring cars even though the body doesn't comply with the BRCA 1/10th Touring Car specification. We can also run stock TL-01 or other Tamiyas with the stock 540 motors). If you already have a car like a TL-01 based one, take it to the club, join up, run it and enjoy, you will soon know whether it's best to upgrade the car you have or to go for something a bit more race-tuned and expensive!

I've decided that having loitered around the TC forums for the best part of a year or so, it's about time to become a proper member to get my showroom up and running. (I only signed up for a forum account and not a full TC account originally). I've gone to the registration page, which requires a nickname and password. Can I use my existing (forums) account name for the Tamiya Club member name, will that be okay, and will all of my forum posts be on that account, or will I have to use a new nickname and lose the association to all of my valuable [?] previous contributions? Thanks, John

I'd heard they did Mini-Z racing there. That's another car to bring then [] I wonder will the Astroturf be done by the time we arrive, or will the offroad track be a building site? -
I would use Indy Silver to back a pearl paint, but white will also give a nice effect. Best to experiment on a plastic bottle first, that's what I did with the candy paints, blow some pearl onto the bottle, then do half white and half Indy and see which looks nicest. If it's anything like the candy paint with Indy Silver backing, the depth of finish looks fantastic, I was well pleased with it, far better than anything ready mixed could manage..

3 Mad Bulls (one maybe madder than the others []) Baja Champ Twin Detonator Mini Cooper (M03) Non Tamiya:- Losi Mini-T Kyosho Mini-Z
-
A single race with the Detonators and Blackfoots would be cool. My Detonator won't hurt another car, I'm there to drive round the track, can't be having all that competitiveness, I will probably stack it into the trackside anyway cos I'll be too busy admiring the other cars I'm "racing" [] My Detonator's a big softy car anyway, the tyres are so squelchy I don't think it could harm another car if it tried [] Biggus - your suggestion of a convoy of trucks sounds superb, that's something I would like to see.
-
I agree with Vintage Jack on that; if enough of us would like & be able to use the offroad track, we should be able to get some sort of course together.. A lot depends on how many races are to be held on the main track, and what sort of state the offroad area is in, but I'm sure we could sort something out. I think we'll just have to see how it works out on the weekend, but I would like to give the buggies and truck a run offroad with others if there's enough interest.

When a carpenter fitted our kitchen worktops, he cut them using a full-sized router, and had an assortment of jigs cut from perspex to guide it. Clamp the jig to the worktop and run the router along it - result was a perfect cut. Perhaps something similar could be done with the dremel router jig?

Sorry dhes2809, but you need patience to get a good finish. Light coats of Tamiya paint will give you a fantastic shine, but blowing it all on quickly won't, and as you've discovered it ends up taking longer to fix it. I've successfully sorted out runs on Lexan by using fine wet and dry sandpaper (used wet) to flatten out the runs, and then overspraying gently with an airbrush. It's easier to do this on a hard body, but make sure all old paint is removed before priming and painting. And next time, take your time, it will be worth it!
-
Fair point Biggus, I'm just letting the excitement get to me [] I suppose that even with the pegboard it could be difficult getting pegs from one side to t'other.

Can I race my Mini-Z and Bit-Chargs? Against the tanks [] Marshalling is fine, we are used to that idea from club racing anyway, it's almost second nature to come out to marshall after driving. Besides, I've always wanted to stand in an oil drum [] -
Cool, I like pegboards [^] The only problem with them is that some of the dumwits at our touring car club seem to find the concept confusing [!]. Still, I'm sure that won't be the case with TC members, I'm sure we're all intelligent enough to use the facility.

It would be appreciated if you could get the grass cut smmcc, then we can put ramps/ropes whatever on there for an offroad course. There should be enough free frequencies to run offroads at the same time as onroads, then we can fit twice the fun into the time we've got!
-
Thought it might have been. It happened on the second coat, and it was fairly warm where I was painting, but the paint coming out of the can was cold due to decompression, so my thimbs were warmer..

Is it worth getting an LRP Buggy Special Motor?
Jozza(2) replied to Jozza(2)'s topic in General discussions
I would guess that if anything the motor supplied in the kit is probably the cheapest one to mass produce. I'll take a look later to see if I can confirm the exact model, but I think I'll order one of these buggy specials and see how it fares. There's also the option of some budget modifieds like the Team Orion Havoc, but I think I'll stick with the LRP as it's specifically made as a drop-in replacement for kits without having to change the gearing and/or ESC. Watch this space, but any report I give of speed increase will have to be subjective, as I don't have a speed gun! Perhaps I can drive the Champ past one of the plethora of Gatsos which we now have and see if I can trigger it LOL.... -

Oh, a warning about holding the body whilst painting.. I did this with a TC body that I painted recently, gripped the outside and blew Tamiya smoke paint on the windows as I like the look. Where my finger and thumb were touching the outside of the body, the paint moved away from them and formed a sort of crater. Looked horrible, I had to strip it off and start again. I think it must've been caused by either the heat of my hands (it was a cold day) or possibly static electricity?
-
I finally ended up buying some of those latex disposable decorators gloves, and held the body using them. It makes it easier to hold the bodies too, which is handy. Re the co2 cylinders, anything from a little one the size of the gas cylinder for a barbeque up to ones that are about 4 foot tool, like you get in the local hospitals. You basically pay a deposit on the cylinder and then a few quid each time it needs to be refilled, but I think even the smaller bottles last a long time.

Would the Twin Detonator fit in with the Blackfoot/monster beetles, or would it come into the stadium or monster truck cat? (I don't think it qualifies as a monster truck or stadium truck?) Also, how about a general buggies class (2WD and 4WD) to cater for the Mad Bulls/Baja Champ, or would they fit into a different class? Is vintage (1990's) to cover any cars up to present (ie including '00s) Not being picky, I just wanna make sure we can run what we bring! Also, could it be an idea to do strict classes on one day, and free form on the other day - I still think it would be quite good to see completely different cars on the circuit at the same time like last year's photos show.
