I have a soft spot for the Fire Dragon... it was the only car I ever raced competetively. Just once, and it was hilarious running against Kyosho ubercars with a Fire Dragon and a technigold. And coming in second. Painted Tamiya pink.******, now I gotta track down one of these chassis!

Philly suburbs here. Been into Tamiya since I saw a Wild One being driven around an empty baseball diamond when my brother was @ little leage practice.. far too long ago. No longer have any of the models from my youth, sadly, now looking to get the ones that got away as well as some of the greatest hits. And I'm glad I'm not the only one to feel the same way about the model building aspect... I find building a kit to be a calming excercise, and love watching the parts come together into a whole. I just cannot ever give a **** about an RTR, no matter how hard I have tried.

Grasshoppers are awesome for starting out, if you dig the off road buggy look. Very hard to kill, run forever with that 380 motor...

Oh man, this is one of the ones I'm hoping for a re-re of. Used to see the pics of it in action in the old Tamiya RC Guidebooks, but it was out of production by then... Can't even imagine what a body shell would go for now!

Provided they fix some of the driveline issues, I'll buy more than one 959.As for the Fox, bring it on! Never had one as a kid, but there was another kid down the street who had one and would occasionally roll with me and my brother and our Hornets. Would gladly snap up one for myself!

I'm really really interested in the Panzer III and STuG III.. but ultimately I want them to be compatible with the Tamiya battle system. Good to know that it's a fairly easy conversion. Thanks for the additional info Bigwheels!

I put a Tamiya "lightly tuned" motor in my Frog, and with a 3600mah NiMh battery it is undriveable. It just wants to flip onto its back... I don't remember *any* car doing that back in the day, so clearly things have come a long way. And clearly I need to set some max throttle points on my transmitters to save myself repairs

Yea, definitely sounds like this one is destined for the shelf then. If a proper re-re comes up that it "belongs" in, might install it.. but otherwise, eh.. might put it up on trade here.

That makes sense, and answers the question of "So.... why does every company make the same exact tanks?!"

Thanks for the info. I'm now leaning towards the Tiger I with the upgrade parts to make it the Afrika Korps model. I'd like to collect them all eventually, but we'll see how that goes I've looked at the Heng Longs, and saw some by another company.. Not a fan of prebuilt stuff since at least half my fun is in the building, but they might be nice to flesh out an army and fill in the gaps left by kit makers.

I've not been able to find any pics of the guts of this tank.. anyone know if it uses the newer driveline from the Leopard? Or is it the older style? I need another tank to do battle with the Sherman that I built several years ago for my wife. Really liked the looks of the Jagdpanther but don't feel like having to fix the model as I go..

I picked it up from a LHS that was closing up shop years ago, and have been sitting on it since. Brand new... only ran a tiny bit of voltage into it once after rediscovering it in my basement after a move. Always wondered how these stacked up to the Technigold, which I'm more familiar with, and crammed into every model I could. I seem to recall massive 5 minute or so runtimes with those. Meanwhile, my re-re Hotshot with an RZ motor and 3600mah NiMh will run rings around any of those, and for many times as long. Great link on all the motors! So to quote Dr. Jones.. "IT BELONGS IN A MUSEM!"

So I have this Dynatech which I apparently paid the princely sum of 15 bucks for about a decade ago.. How does it stack up against the current brushed Tamiya lineup? Does it deserve a place amongst one of the re-release lineup? What exactly does this belong in.. I see more about the 02H that this one.

Oh it's definitely getting built. I've got bearings on the way to replace the plastic stuff in the gearbox so far. No idea what sort of scheme to go for on the body, and very nervous about tackling the driver figure as I am unable to make a presentable Warhammer 40K miniature either...I do get the feeling that I'll be picking up another one or two of these kits for the wife and nephews

I build all mine to run, albeit cautiously. If/when I come across some that are truly truly enjoyable to drive they'll be put into circulation but I doubt they'll see the abuse that I'd level at say, an HPI or Traxxas anything. I've found that some of the kits I lusted after as a kid really were better as a hazy nostalgic vision than an actual drivable car. Hotshot and Frog, looking at you. Don't get me wrong, glad I bought and built 'em but... I always wanted a Frog and was a bit let down after actually driving it around. And as for the Hotshot, well.. it's obvious why they came out with the Supershot. That suspension, which always intrigued me, is flaccid and incapable even with super heavy damper oil. But hey, everything gets a fair shake at being a driver. Some make it, and some end up on display as object lessons

As long as they fix the dogbone launching problem I'll buy a couple 959 models as well! I think it was a problem with the control arm mounting but I'm not engineer...Oh, that glorious battery killing technigold.. 5 minutes of glory I also wonder if they would reuse the primitive reservoir damper style. Aside from the Celica in that same series, has any other Tamiya kit used a similar oil damper style?

I've always wanted to try brushless, but my first experience was not good. Bought a Traxxas vxl rustler because hey, who cares if it breaks? Ran it around for a day or so and was generally unimpressed, didn't get what the speed thing was all about. Discovered that I had it in training mode. Well, I surely don't need THAT. Full power mode ON. Which lasted 5 seconds or less as I went full speed into a curb. Turns out cars don't turn so good when the front wheels are barely in contact with the pavement. To its credit, only one control arm got damaged and was an easy fix. Still, I'm pretty reluctant to try brushless again; especially with models I actually care about.
