  1. Received a small Christmas Present to myself this past weekend... Vanessa's Lunchbox and a Madbull. Ridiculously excited to build my first big wheelers needless to say renewed my TC membership same day. Off to search for inspiration for paint scheme for my non box art Madbull...
  2. Great thread! I am used to using architectural CAD software but wondered what programme you are using here. Is it Solidworks? (I ask as I am toying with the idea of buying some new software tools as I like the structural analysis you have done here. Really interesting post. Thanks for sharing
  3. Seriously... dude... a Tamiya tattoo. I love my models... but mot on a crass indelible way Sack off the tattoo and buy a new t shirt to emjoy instead (and a henna tattoo if you are insistent)
  4. Hi Guys I have a number of Tamiya items on eBay at the moment as I deal with a few changes in circumstance. I wont go into detail on here, thankfully, but what remains of my Tamiya collection has to go to raise much needed funds. I am keen that this good stuff goes to true enthusiasts, as I am, and hope one day to rebuild my collection - probably through this forum!! Anyway I have the following for sale - in case there is a buyer out there - Message me through eBay if you wish to find out more. Thanks for looking... 5. nice restoration*! I have an old old Madcap as a project that has sat in a storage container for a few years... After seeing this I want to strip it down and rebuild it with some spare parts I have collected over time. although given the weather at the moment [so sunny in the UK] i think i will wait until the autumn. great job, well done. *thanks for the tip about the window... i am going to plan to paint mine with a smoke paint finish, i have never seen the window decals done right yet!
  6. Good comments Tamiya 1/10... The economy is still in the gutter, and will likely be there for some time yet. i know i am lucky to have work, but am angry much of the effort is never seen, or rewarded. i guess that is a whole separate issue i have to find a way of dealing with, for now i had no option to stop doing the unpaid overtime... you were right... i am burned out! I have decided to keep the full time day job, and to invest some of the time i would have been spending doing unpaid overtime on designing a buggy. it seems to be a happy compromise ... this way, i get to keep on as an architect, i get to design a buggy, and with 3D printing getting cheaper i might even get to make a few parts or even a prototype... who knows. thanks for the debate, you helped a fellow Tamiya fan make some sense of it all. Cheers guys
  7. Tamiya 1/10, thanks for your answer, but to be honest i find it a little patronising! I work hard, damned hard. I want to at least enjoy my day, and if i am to spend the whole of the evening until 2am working on the same stuff, I want to make sure I enjoy that as well. I asm currently looking at options to a] Do something that is fun, b] do something that is not giving me so much stress I can sleep even when the mountains of ever growing work is done for now. and c] pays me for overtime if overtime is actually needed, or bonuses for extra efforts - REWARDS! it is important to me to get paid, otherwise i just do something fun after 8 hours... d] gives me back some free time, nothing major, just evenings and weekends again. I have been in the construction industry since 1999, so yeah 14 years of the same stuff, day in, day out... its not a change in attitude that is needed, with respect its a change in circumstance! Yes i do enjoy architecture, when i have the time and resources to do a good job, and when the demand are curtailed to say an 8 hour day with a little break for lunch. No changing of attitudes will make an 18hr day, seven days a week, with no paid overtime past an 8hr day, acceptable, unless you are a bit, well, stupid. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I want to enjoy my life, so looking at options on how I CHOOSE to spend it. No offence, just saying
  8. such a shame... I had my beady eye on one of their buggies...
  9. Took some time to start a one year plan, to overhaul my life and get some FUN back into it!! Plan on relaxing later and having a look inside my new Tamiya Static Kit of The Newman Porsche 956 [item No.24049.2600] Nice kit by the way, slightly dissappointed i cant find the list of paints required yet. they are normally listed on the first page of the instructions, this one seems different...
  10. I guess the answer is unfolding now... I decided to stick with construction, and grit my teeth and just get on with it, after all it IS work [i.e. you are not supposed to ENJOY it!?! Right??] I figured the aspiration to design something more interesting to me than to design buildings would just go away, but it hasn't, if anything it has remained a constant, even throughout my years of studying architecture. In fact it has been around a lot longer than architecture. Okay so I havent put that many hours in if you compare the two but its still FUN! My job, the people, the culture, who knows what the problem is. I know it doesn't make me happy, and hasn't done for a while - I would say for 5 years at least... [incidentally that is how long the credit crunch has been hitting the construction industry HARD in the UK]. So i guess i decided to take a break from construction, refocus on a job just being a job, reduce my stress levels to somewhere sub cardiac failure and dare to ask 'what if i did something else?' No firm plans as yet, but thanks for reading and for your contributions. It helped. cheers
  11. Nice idea Carlito... could be the way forward... Its not really all that newsworthy though so I think I would have to pay some dollars to get it in a newspaper, which isn't really in the spirit of this treasure hunt... It would be nice to see if we could do this from Tamiyaclub... anyone ever done anything similar? LOL...!
  12. Still no sign of it, Huh? Sheesh!! LOL! I wonder if it will ever turn up? Missing in Action - Fire Dragon Last Seen In - Banchory, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, UK in 2003 I might have to rustle up a reward to see if this one will get interesting!! Hmmm, now what would make a good prize??
  13. Thanks for all the answers guys, will investigate more in the morning! PS I really enjoyed the Anime Cartoon! Just like Battle of the Planets!
  14. Hi I recall reading in a Tamiya Guide book, or possibly the Tamiya Story that the Coro Coro series of 4x4 cars were based on illustrations for a Japanese Comic Book Animation... [Cars included Super Dragon, Fire Dragon, Thurnder Dragon, Thunder Shot]. Any idea on what the comic books are? I would love to have a look at some of the Manga/ Anime artwork! Cheers Actualday
  15. I knew there was a reason I should take up boats! LOL

  17. Just a quick note, before I eat my own body weight in sausages and Quality Street... Happy Christmas to one and all! Have a great day, think of those poor wretched souls that are working, and if you can then spend the day with family and loved ones! Now get playing with your new toys! haha! All the very best Actualday
  18. Had a boomerang years ago, loved it, really very good fun! Single shock to the front needed beefing up as I recall, and putting a hotter motor in it [a Parma Cyclone II Modified] made it go like stink! Agree with comments above, get boomer as a used car and rebuilt it yourself, and get a brand new Frog... That is exactly my plan also...
  19. nothing, absolutely nothing!!! Boo hoo!! I work for a new company, and this is my first Christmas there... I was hoping we would be paid a few days before Christmas, but that is not the tradition at this new company... Going to drool over stuff from Stella for another week, and then SPLURGE! LOL Currently looking at either a Tamiya Avante :)or a 58479 TT-01E Raybrig HSV-010 and a 58550 DF-02 Aero Avante for mucking about with... mmmm, nice to choose, if not actually to buy this week! or maybe a Frog and a Dark Impact... raaarrrr this choosing business is HARD!
  20. I have got a feeling this buggy lives on, at least I am hoping so!! Who knows we may yet find it!!
  21. I hope the Fire Dragon isn't dead!! I never considered that... gulp
  22. haha Old School Runner! You know I am not the only one to have wondered!! ... you never know it may well surface in a members showroom somewhere...
  23. Hi Tamiya Clubbers, I have an idea that may sound wacko, but then again may not to many of you 'second time around' Tamiya fans... In the mid 90's I built and owned a box art Tamiya Fire Dragon and Futaba SR Remote handset in white. The Futaba seemed a crazy design at the time, but the colour scheme of that handset was pretty tight, even for today, way ahead of its time... One thing is for sure, I really loved that buggy, and used and abused it over the few years I had it. In a fit of 'having to grow up' [which I still regret TBH] I gave the buggy to some family members in Banchory, just outside of Aberdeen, in about 2002-2003. I gave the buggy to two young brothers in their mid teens to play with, figuring that they had the room and space to use it, that was sadly lacking where I lived in Liverpool. That was the last I ever saw of it, I think it just wasn't their type of thing, more of a toy to them, and the bug never caught hold, and I understand that they passed it on to someone else. Fair enough, it was up to them what they play with. Over the years that I owned the Fire Dragon Model I bought a Super Dragon body kit, which was painted in a silver pearlescent top coat, with black beneath, and it looked like distressed metal from above when fitted to the body, the decals really popped and looked great. I really loved that paint Job, and used that body when the model was on the shelf. The Fire Dragon body shell was carefully painted, box art, careful to keep the window clear... I may have even applied a few Ferrero Rocher stickers to it, which seems like a common theme at the time. In confessional mode, forgive me TC Fans, but I also did some unspeakable things to the chassis, like brush painting it silver with Humbrol chrome paint, and painting the yellow CVA dampers yellow and black as I recall... By Brush... and with acrylic... arghhhhh!!! LOL. Funny to laugh now, but what a horrendous crime! In fact come to think of it I dont think the suspension arms got away scot free either... ooops! Fast forward 5 years... So as time passed and I got back into the hobby, I started looking on eBay for Fire Dragons, and I always wanted another one. My wife knew I would never spend the cash on one, but watched this go on for years, until last year when she bought me an old and equally used and abused Fire Dragon banger off eBay, which I restored. During the whole restoration process, handling the very same parts as I did in my teens, I got around to thinking... I wonder what did happen to that old buggy? I wonder where in the world it is now? Is it still servicable? Has someone already restored it? If anyone would pick out the details of the Super Dragon Body and Painted Chassis, is us guys on here! So has anyone seen my old Fire Dragon? It would be great to hear of anyone has! Just for old times sake...
  24. Hi TC I have been working in the construction idustry as a designer, and have recently become disillusioned with the whole show. Long, long hours [sometimes 18 hours per day!], low pay [you would be surprised of the reality of it all!], and frankly a pretty dull workload...* I have always enjoyed being a designer, and would like to change career to automotive design or similar, but am put off by the cost of tuition fees, having already studied and paid for a degree and two post grad qualifications in architectural design... I also have a massive passion for Tamiya and all things RC and have become largely self taught in chassis design from text books I have acquired over the years... I would really love to work for someone like Tamiya, does anyone have any experience of this?? and how to go about making the transition? cheers *I might just be having a bad weekend / midlife crisis, but would like to find out more on working as an RC Designer...
