  1. Just bumping this one up as I've finally started the Fox rebuild mentioned at the start of this thread
  2. Last year I had a thread "Not so Super Hornet" where I bought a complete fox (runner?) on ebay and the lady sent me all her son's RC equipment. Well... I've finall got around to the Fox rebuild. Here is what I'm starting with... looks good in the picture doesn't it. Body off... What is that bit of prerspex doing there? Oh, I see. It's holding the chassis together!!! And you all knew the rear arm would be broken So I sat on this one until I could locate a complete chassis. Luckily, my good freind MadRacer (Mark) likes to collect Foxes and happened to have a spare to trade with some of the left over parts from my recent "Hotshot Twin" rebuild. Again Mark, thank you for this. Let the fun begin
  3. Great shots Brad and Kumi!!! I love the 6th photo which captured the "Incect Cup" experience perfectly.... Back wheels in the air! Hope we can get a full feild of 10 cars next fortnight.
  4. Sorry for the late notice but we are back to our regular Saturday run tomorrow from 9am. Come one come all!
  5. Just a heads up we are having a run tomorrow (Sat 27th) for anyone who wants to join in. Having a "Grasshopper/Hornet" run with silver can or black can. So bring along your bouncy solid rear axle buggys for a blast
  6. Hey mate! Nice garage of buggies you got there! Yes the track is open dawn to dusk every day to the public. If you can't come Saturdays, post up times you plan to go. There are plenty of us that would come for a run. Always good to meet more vintage nuts:) Cheers Mark P.S - there is a run this Saturday 9am for anyone that wants to come. I won't be there as away on holidays.
  7. This Saturday is a go. Who's coming? Also the Beach run is pencilled in for Saturday afternoon the 6th March at Alex Heads.
  8. Did you run in the RZ motor before running it hard? The brushed need to "bed in" so its a good idea to run the car on 3 volts for 20 mins bofore giving it a good hiding. My guess the 17t pinion would work the motor very hard. Pull the brushes out and check to see they are nice and smooth and a no cracks or chips on the edges. Also make sure they don't have a blueish tinge like they have been overheated. If so, throw them out and bed in a new set. The motors are "stiff" bue to the strength of the magnets. Other thing would be to swap motors between Hotshot and Frog to see if it is the gearing.
  9. What gearing is in your Frog? If it is geared high as well top speed would be similar to Hotshot with 17t pinion. The black cans are 23 turn as well so have a respectable top speed but should not beat a RZ that's for sure. I think there is about 5000rpm difference in favour of the RZ I would check the RZ motor. The stock tamiya brushes wear very quickly (and unevenly) and with the heat you seem to be generating I would say its time for a rebuild. You will notice a massive difference with a comm cut and new brushes.
  10. Thanks for the photos Brad! These meets are getting better and better. Great variety of cars turning up now. Running 3 vintage Hotshots was a highlight. So was the free for all high speed racing with RC10s. I think we need to video at the next one. I have a camera if someone wants to use it.
  11. I would definately buy a Lunchbox shirt
  12. 2 sunny days = fun @ Boondall tomorrow 9am.... get there
  13. Nope. Just Goodyear. It isn't raised lettering either, kind of screen printed or stenciled.
  14. Hey guys! Hoping someone could help me identify these tyres. Got them in a parts lot and they look cool but don't fit 2.2s - possibly 2.0s Not sure if they are Tamiya or not as they have "Goodyear" written on them. Any help appreciated. Cheers Mark
  15. ...Speaking of the second car, all parts arrived and fulll speed ahead on this one. I have already traded the car with a friend and we are doing the rebuild together quickly so we can run them together at the next Boondall run. Front and rear gearboxes ball-raced rebuilt - re-re driveshafts and spur gear. All other parts sourced are vintage including prop shaft - thanks Mad Racer! Speaking of original parts, got the mechanical speedy up and running just for the laugh. Going to leave it in for the maiden run - this could end in tears, but saying that, my 3 year old could probably run faster than the car flat out and catch it if it does take off Just some assembly and we will be racing... well, pulling display laps.
  16. That's right. I find that if you only leave a product on for minimum time and wash it off in warm soapy water straight away you will only do minimal damage if any. I've used nitro fuel and brake fluid on poly shells and always had ok results as I limit the exposure to the paint only and not long enough to destroy the shell. First car totally finished. Now with lights and aerial Took her for a run at Boondall last weekend and had time for a cup of tea waiting for it to run the main straight Will definately be putting the RZ motor in after I've finished the second car. Progress on that one coming up...
  17. Stripped old enamel car paint with Mr Muscle oven cleaner - left it on for 20 mins making sure none touched the outside of the shell with decals. Then back to the old toothbrush and soapy water again. Pretty happy with the results 3 coats of Tamiya red and we have
  18. Just a friendly reminder to get your gear ready for Saturday
  19. Thanks Paul For the plastic parts is old fashioned dishwashing liquid, a toothbrush and alot of scrubbing. for alloy parts I use a product I buy here in Oz called "Brite Shine" cotton wadding metal polish. It's raw cotton with a metal polish. You need to be light handed as it is a cutter as well and can leave some nasty swirls if you try and work to fast. Also have had good results with Autosol in the past. Here is a before and after of the 2 roofs OK, Public Holidays are great for getting things done Cage and window netting fitted We have a running car!!!! Time to work on the body. Going to strip the old enamel metallic car paint and paint it a niceboxart red - hopefully preserve the decals as they look quite good.
  20. I wouldn't dare - wife would see me bringing parts in from the shed and would bail me up before i got them in there. By the way... how do you work a dishwasher? Getting heaps done lately. Cleaned the house paint and grot off the driver head ready for new paint. Driver head and body done. rear gearbox on chasis. Shocks polished and re-oiled with 35 weight. Front gearbox and shocks mounted. Electronics fitted. Running generic 15t ESC (self setting so never need to reset throttle position) 3003 servo and Eurgle 2.4ghz rx. With this set up I should never have to drop the radio box. I'd say it will be ready for Boondall next saturday. Just the cosmetics and testing the driveline.
  21. One complete front and rear gearbox. Many hours cleaning the gunk of the parts. One car was covered in what looked like cement dust. Came up ok with soap and water and the plastic doesn't seem brittle at all. Maybe I will make 2 runners after all.... Motor is the 540j motor and 15t pinion that was in the car when I got it. Spins fast and free. I will probably upgrade to a TZ or RZ after a few runs I'm sure. For now I will get one car completely running and then order all parts for the second one
  22. Better put up some progress hey... Both front gearboxes stripped, cleaned, ball raced and re-greased Rear gearboxes not as nice. made 1 good from 2. Need new main spur gear and thrust bearing At this stage I will only have one runner and 1 for parts. Will decide further in the build if it will be worth making the second runner as there are now some key parts missing. Just noticed there are no front drive shafts on the second car either
  23. Hey Ian the next run will be Saturday the 30th January at 9am. Come along and have a run. It's a relaxed, no pressure environment and all the guys are really friendly and eager to help. We spend as much time talking as we do driving. Left my camera at home so no pics of the last run sorry.
  24. Everyone ready for tomorrow then?
  25. Great photos thanks Brad. Yes, this is definately working well. Great cars, great people. Can't wait for our next meet on the 16th.
