Hi All!
Does anyone know when the bodyset will be released oversea's? I have an expected release date over here of 21 March from ModelsportUK priced at £37.00???

I'd be curious to know how this holds up.
The only paint I've gotten to stick to a lexan shell is the stuff made for it. Everything else, including paints made for other types of plastic, ends up coming off.
Time will tell I suppose, the paint is the new waterbased car paint, very flexible as it has to be used on plastic molded bumpers on 1:1 automobiles. It will be run from Wednesday next week & as soon as any I detect any paint damage I will post pics on this thread.

Has anybody got one of these on a pre-order? I went to buy a 2wd 1:10 Slash earlier this week but the guy behind the counter told me the new 4x4 version will be out on the 12 January, so I thought I'd hold my horses & pre-order one. I have been after a decent modern runner for a while & was triggered to buy one from the great reviews I have heard from other TC members regarding short course trucks. It was either gonna be a Team Associated SC10 or a Traxxas Slash, but after hearing the Traxxas was comming out soon in 4wd I was instantly sold!!! I just need to find a decent BMX track near me now...

Thanks for your help, I keyed the plastic before painting with Scotchbrite which helped the paint stick. I have used a textured aerosol paint normally used for plastic molded bumper repairs & this seems to have worked okay. Its flexible enough to bend with the plastic & strong enough not to scratch off if I try to scratch it! I guess I will find out after I take my Traxxas 4x4 into the field (when it arrives that is!!!). Here are some pics of the shell so far, the painting is done & I've just started decalling:

What about using tamiya TS spray paint, is that okay for a lexan shell?
-
I have been eyeing the Slash up for some time now as I wanted a decent / modern runner that I wasn't afraid to drive a bit wreckless with so popped into Modelsport in Otley to purchase one. I ended up buying a Proline Hardcore Shell to paint & customise to my own taste. Now this shell will be painted with my leftover waterbased paints from work which work a treat, but I'm after something to "seal" the paint in there as with the lexan shells I have painted before the paint can be scratched off if you try hard enough! Is there a product out there that I can use to effect this???

Have you ever considered Blackpool beach or Lytham St. Annes for the sand dunes???
-
Hi Dazaa
Today I have been cleaning the alloy parts with car polish (Farclea G3) using my buffer, they got all the blemishes off & came up a treat. So shiny you can see your reflection in them. Suprising really to say that they were extremely dirty & dull before!!!
Sorry I don't have a before pic but it looked a helll of a lot worse!

Hi there
I live at Colne at the end of the M65, near Burnley not too far from Blackburn, do you ever do any meets near these places???

Nice colour combo!!!

Cheers Pete - looks superb!

Yes. You also have to stick your head inside the scorcher shell to use the side mirror's to their full advantage... extra 10pts if you run around with it on your head making "Brrmm brmm" sounds

(Goodness, I wouldn't be online if we weren't allowed to have a sense of humour)

"BRRMM BRRMM, What were you saying??? I couldn't here you with this thing on my head!!!
-
Hi Pete
Looks great, could you show us a picture of it from the rear so I could get a better look at the rear bumper? And also could you tell me how much it was & where it was sourced from???

Thanks for the kind words Mike, I like to make sure my spellings are as good as possible, it makes everything easier to read.
Connor, I REALLY like the second paint suggestion. I really appreciate your offer on restoring the second shell but to be honest it really isn't worth the trouble. The roof is totally broken, and that metal plate is riveted to the body to hold it togeather at the front. With the second paint scheme would you also paint on the RR white stripes at the side? I will use the driver from the blue shell as the black one is broken at the back. Would using solvent paints be any different to using water based paints? Still waiting for the rest of the parts to come, but in the mean time I have started repairing the rear cage using a spruce. I also found out that bumper makes at great surfact to cut things on, and that it is a genuine black plastic(not dyed) srb bumper

Hope the postie brings somthing tommorow, otherwise I will be forced to break somthing to give me somthing to repair

dazaa
Hey I have been know to rescue shells that are fit for the bin before so let me see if I can try & do something with the second shell if you want, repair work is my trade you know, lol! With the paint scheme I can do the RR white stripes at the side no problem! The difference between the 2 paint systems is just different techniques of spraying, solvent based paints is the old system soon to be obsolete, waterbased is the new (& more time consuming) way of spraying cars. I am running 2 different systems at the moment until the solvent expires. Most of the cars in my showroom have been painted with leftover solvent based paints but I find it easier to paint with the waterbased paints!

I could paint one shell in a classic style 2 tone silver / blue using these waterbased paints!
I could paint one shell in my spare solvent paints using these 4 colours, by doing a double 2-tone fade that runs from the back to the front but still keeping the classic rough rider scheme!
I have some great decals that would go with these schemes!!!

Hi Connor,
I can't describe how much I appreciate your offer. I was really worried about messing up the body, and to be honest I didn't really want to start messing around with caustic soda, imagine a 14 year old stirring a couldron of caustic soda with a plastic body in it, what would the neighbours have thought

Those BC body's look brilliant, really nice colours and a perfect paint job, and your monster beetle's, well some of them are simply stunning. As for needing wheels, well I have plently as you can see in the previous pictures, take your pick
And please let me know what other srb bits you need, I already have quite afew spares and still have 2 more packages to come. I will pm you regarding your address asap. Perhaps I should start a poll as to what colours to paint the shell, as it is a community car afterall and I will never be able to decide what colours to use. Thanks again mate.
dazaa
No worries, if you send me both shells I will try & do both of them for you if time permits & not too much prep work is needed (I will know when they are both stripped of paint). As for the colours, I can take some pics of my leftover paints tomorrow & I guess you could do a poll to decide what colour scheme everyone would like to see. It would definately make it more interesting!
I will get back to you regarding what parts I need for the SS as I'm not sure till I piece together what I have so far.

Hi everyone! I bought 3 of these, one in each colour & they are the bee's knee's! What a quality hop-up part. Everything from the design to the feel & finish is amazing. I wouldn't have expected any less if Tamiya had released this as a hop-up part. I take my hat off to you Pete, you are the man!!!

Wow, thats really a great offer Connor!
Must be all that Christmas spirit kicking in

They don't call me Scrooge, lol!
I would like to "get in" on this Tamiyaclub joint member's build & seen as how painting is my speciality I would love to offer my services. I enjoyed doing the Buggy Champ build a lot more than what I thought I would & I know I can make something special out of this! I have some great leftover colour's at the moment, so why the helll not!
Here are my 3 Buggy Champ Shells:

Hi Dazaa, I hear you say you want to do this project for under £30! Well I may be able to help you out! I can offer to strip the RR shell for you, repair it, prime paint & lacquer the shell using my spare automotive paints (I am a car bodywork sprayer repairer by trade) and I will even decal it for you using various decals. If you want an example on how it might turn out take a look at my 3 Buggy Champ shells in my showroom. All I would want is for you to pay the postage & I could possibly do with some spare wheels & parts for my SS runner (not sure what I need yet but can let you know in due course).
Let me know what you think!

Jeez-when flying over this tread it seems to me some people forgot these are only TOYS we're debatting here

It's obviously a "life or death" matter to some people...

You missed out :-
C
-Would have liked to have seen the kit come with original shell but it's not a deal breaker.
-Own/owned a vintage SRB, bought for silly money in pretty woefull condition, sold it on as was not worth the expense and/or hassle to restore it. The re-re brings all of the joy and none of the hassle.
Guess who is in camp C?

Haha, well you also forgot :-
D
- Dosen't give 2 monkeys about the differences (it's a totally new car everybody), we now have 4 different shells (& body parts) for conversion:
1. The original (and most expensive) Sand Scorcher "Holy Grail" shell!
2. The classic 80's Monster Beetle shell (in white & red)
3. The Blitzer Beetle shell (which is the same as No2 but in black but comes with different body parts)
4. The "NEW" RERE Sand Scorcher shell (which presumably will be molded in white) & might be identical to the Blitzer shell but come with new nose cone, indicators wing mirrors etc...
AT THE END OF THE DAY THE MORE CHOICE THE MERRIER!!!!
ROLL ON THE NEW YEAR, OH YEAH!!!!!!

-
I might buy one, not sure.
I have enough parts to build a nearly complete chassis in original form, so might just buy re-re parts to complete it.
The body will get cut up and modded, but still a shame they didnt re-model the arches. Even if they just trimmed them into a different style and made the 2010 SS into a more modern looking baja racer, it would have been nicer than the re-re looking like a poor replica SS built with a blitzer shell!
It's the creative, talented member's of Tamiyaclub (like yourself) who we have to thank for the "more modern looking baja racer's", lol!!!

-
I'm not hanging around while everybody argue's over the minor shell difference's, I've got 2 on a pre-order before everyone wakes up & realises that they are all sold out! End of the day it's an "Official Tamiya Sand Scorcher" wether it's new or vintage!!!

I was hoping to import the Sand Scorcher bodyset as I did the Buggy Champ bodyset for about £30 including P&P, maybe someone from Hong Kong knows???
