For me, I prefer more realistic looking models. That's why I like the Lunchbox. It looks like the old school monster trucks of the 80's (google Rollin thunder monster truck). Like the others said, they are big, goofy fun. The do roll over quite easily and bounce around but put some oil shocks in and it will handle better. Never owned a wild willy so can't comment but the do look fun. I own a Frog and I find the brat/frog chassis the least maintenance out of all chassis types I own. You could always get a brat and put bigger wheels on it and make it a Mud Blaster. Whatever way you go, you'll have fun.

£60 more than the Lunchbox - i'd buy the VLB, and then add the Paj shell n decals as an alternative body - i'd put up with the yellow wheels !
60 pounds more for a different body and white wheels seems a bit pricey.

RRP £139.00 here in th UK
Will be cheaper from Japan or HK. Will have to see what champ is selling them for.

I'm liking it more and more. Should be nice and cheap too!

Looks good Mark. Not really into spaceship looking buggies but quite like the avante. Looks like a challenging build, which I like. Will be interesting to see how durable they are, particularly around Boondall.

Yep, I like it too. I stuck with tradition and did boxart but I really like seeing these customs. Well done, it looks great!

Seeing Scott wont come to us, I'm heading up to Maroochydore on Saturday the 27th for anyone that wants to meet for a BEACH RUN.
Meet at Maroochy Surf Club round 11am for early lunch and beach run from 12 for a couple of hours. PM if you need any other details.
No go for me i'm afraid. The Minister has booked us for a Saturday arvo BBQ so i won't make it back in time.
Come check out the two new places at Redland Bay asap.

Tamiya Lunchbox. Got it for my Birthday late August 1987. Awesome Days! Oh so many repairs due to a hard life. I think it was held by super glue and sticky tape by late 1988.
Yep, me too. I remember riding down to Mr toys in the pouring rain and buying one for $200. The store wrapped it in a few big bags for me and then i rode home. Riding and trying to hold a kit box at the same time is not easy!!
I pretty much built it that afternoon too. I was 14 at the time, so it would have been 1988.

Not sure if there would be that much 'gold in the hills' for Kyosho. They always leaned their car to performance over looks, so would you an old car without modern performance / reliability, without the 'uniqueness / quirkyness' of vintage tamiya cars. After all, a lot of the earlyish tamiya were not exactly performance orientated. I had a couple of kyosho cars back in the 80/90s (Ultima / Ultima Pro), and the main draw for me was the better design philosphy, and the improved performance. Getting of hold spares was always a pig though, and they weren't exactly the sturdiest in the event of a crash.
With regard to the comments about a lack of moulds, I don't think this would be an issue with modern manufacturing methods. Once they've purchased an old kit, it would not be difficult to reverse engineer moulds for parts, all the design work is already there, it's just a case of measuring and copying. Don't forget the chinese once copied an entire B29 bomber and started building their own, so copying an old buggy should be a piece of cake

Personally Id prefer looks over performance (both is better!) as I like cars that look a little more realistic. I think if Kyosho were to ever rerelease some of their classics, they would sell like hot cakes- possibly even more than some tamiyas.

Looks cool except for the oversized shock tower on the front. It's higher than the windscreen! Anyhow, maybe Kyosho might just realize that there is gold in them there re-release hills!!

So when should we do the beach run? The weekend of the 24th is good for me as the missus is away. What you all think?
