  1. If you are not wanting to use tamiya paint. Vauxhall Regatta blue is an excellent match. Ive since sold my ranger but have a Super Champ and bruiser clone in my showroom painted in that colour if you want a nose.
  2. It takes a while - I took advantage of the offer on day one of being advised by TC and it was 3 or 4 days before owt came through. They then asked that you confirm your details. Too good an offer to refuse in my eyes so thanks Chris and Tamico
  3. Happy Birthday TC - Proud to have been a member since July 2003. Well done to Chris and all the support team as well as the members for keeping it going. I dont post as much these days but still have far too many models all thanks to this site!!
  4. Thanks for sharing, I have the same kit to build into a new kit I have.. Also went for the alloy wheels too. But will paint it non military..
  5. What the others have said, I have a very different view and think given when this was first released its an amazing package. We have to remember what they had to work with back then.. For example the humps in the 'bonnet' were to allow the servo horn to move for the msc... I'm with the others and would suggest selling it.. Or look through the showrooms for inspiration..
  6. Just seen this, oh my.. So shocked, had many a comment chat with him especially in the tamiya101 hey days. Very sad loss.. RIP
  7. There is at least two shades of the grey as well, reissue is slightly darker. There is actually lots of differances throughout the years, I started to try and log these using build manuals as referance but realised it was a thank less task and gave up. Its not just the differance between the original Brat and Frog, there is differance to body post mounts/webbings/battery locations and even mould markers. The reissue has at least two varients if not more of the grey chassis (not including the chrome) Ill go get my coat now
  8. Daft question but you have put new batteries in? Other than that I can't offer any other help.. Providing crystals match any 27mhz transmitter will operate it and plenty out there.
  9. Well everyday is a school day... I often wondered that but never thought to ask
  10. I was lucky enought to have ordered a batch of the Tamiya/Miles decals just before they were pulled and to this day never used them - waiting for the right project. At the end of the day if we decent decals we need to buy the originals. They are out there if you look and are prepared to pay the price asked. It took me 10+ years to find Quattro decals at sensible money and I still cant bring myself to use them !!! When ever I see original brat decals I buy them (if priced right - have numerous sets now) As for runners and my average builds im more than happy with mci, just findished a Frog and while not perfect (white bleed on the netting and Tamiya missing off the roof Frog logo - I guess for copyright reasons) Its fine for me. Only us mad nutters know the differance. The recent mci Hornet decals I used were near perfect and very pleased with them, just some odd sizing issues.
  11. Yeah, usually most models have loads of different schemes carried out.. Somehow the xr311 has a very loyal following for box art... I'll try and come up with something original...
  12. I've spent the last couple of days trying to find images of different paint schemes for the xr311.. The vast majority are box art, spotted a red one a yellow one and the alternative zebra box art.. My very first xr311 from the 80's was a light gold (sadly no pics) I have two xr311's one is box art and the other I'm just about to start an rc channel ally build and wanted a civilian colour, was thinking a deep red metallic or black metallic .. Any one have pics, ideas or suggestions???
  13. Had the steering issue a few times on the hornet. Check the clearance of the servo saver against the chassis.. Its quite close and can cause it to snag giving the issue you have.. Depending on the servo I've assisted the clearance before with a file..
  14. Just had my second batch sent, perfect never had an issue.. Very quick service, well packaged and good quality.. Have to say the decals tc did years ago were better but still happy with what mci did..
  15. Welcome back and know what you mean. I had my first sour deal recently on a guy that properly scanked me (not on TC by the way, always had good deals on Tamiyaclub). first time in 18 years of being back into Tamiyas. Really lost my mojo (and trust) after that but somehow I keep coming back here and dipping in (less elsewhere for that reason) I personally think the community here is first class and worth keeping in touch with.
  16. That looks ace, started something similar myself just never got round to painting it..
  17. The ones with the deeper offset are fitted to the early brat.. So no hole in chassis for skid plate, no body mount moulded in bumper mount (for the frog body) narrow bumper (if original, most have broken now) they went to standard offset on the next version, around a year later.. Regards the ranger I'm sure all were the wider off set.. But could be wrong..
  18. I put spacers on the chassis where the rear wishbone stop is.. You might see it in my showroom pics.. It was a common trick in the day of 'racing' it limits the travel but not by much.. The front is frog springs with a couple of loops cut out just like they do on the 1:1 stuff...
  19. I agree with frog jumper, strip clean make it into a light runner and get a reissue to bash around with 👍 otherwise you end up with triggers broom...
  20. Welcome to the brat club... Wish I had kept mine from 83... Just to add from what kev said.. You will find all the black plastics will be now brittle due to age so don't be surprised if they are not as robust as you remember.. The body's swap OK but you need original chassis and original body mounts at the rear as they are not interchangeable with reissue stuff without minor modifications... Enjoy and keep us posted..
  21. I actually like it this way, before you missed so much content.. When I previously browsed I would stick to the home page and I rarely clicked on the more of that user (if loaded more than one) for me it just needs a button on the home page to load more content to save you going through the hamburger menu... I have quite a few to load as I like my showroom to reflect what I have... But I'll just load as and when... Plenty of time!!!
  22. Happy to Chris, I'm not very techy though. Will dig some of my old pics out.. Maybe after shut down could take the full scale brat for a drive...
  23. I've rite enjoyed these... Watched the two today.. Great to see people's memories and all so very similar..
