  1. Hi people. I haven't posted on here for a while but I am having a clear out. My pajero is on ebay having been rebuilt & fully serviced. If a TC member buys it, let me know and i'll chuck some extra batteries and stuff in. Cheers Andy http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZwriggleandgiggleQQhtZ-1
  2. Hi People, long time no see. I am looking for a pair of front hubs for the Original Avante, failing that just the right hand side (looking from the rear of the car) Have Paypal. Cheers Andy
  3. My mistake on the micro mv thing... I wasn't making a direct comparison on the camcorders I've owned, but the current DV machine gives the best picture and it's really simple to use/edit/create DVD's.
  4. quote:like also copying a good analogue vinyl to a cd vs. cd to cdid="quote">id="quote">That all depends on the turntable/cartridge really, no record ever made will sound good on an alba turntable, however, drop a peice of vinyl onto my trusty Thorens TD 150 and it will. despite being older than me. I've had a number of camcorders through the ages, ranging from a JVC GR-C1E which I still have, a couple of panasonic full size models and a few sony's, a couple of 8mm and a Hi8. I can't remember the specs of the machines but the VHS/VHS-C 240 lines plain suck when compared to the (I think) 500 lines of my current machine. I tried alot of cameras out before going to DV and found I would need to spend around £650-700 to better the model I got. I picked this Camera up as an end of line machine, hence the price. It has excellent picture quality, 16bit stereo sound, DV-In as well as out, remote control, a decent light. I'm very happy with it, I dont have any hassle getting footage onto the and the DVD's I produce work. I have also used a number of different capture cards and while they all worked, all the agro with codecs etc involved in getting a video that would actually play in most machines was a nightmare. basically, you get what you pay for, if you want the best, pick up a Sony Betacam, an edit suite for that camera and a render farm for the titles and your production will look very proffesional. If on the other hand you dont have £250,000+ sitting spare in the biscuit tin you'll have to make do with a £400 DV camcorder and windows movie maker. If you can afford it go with a Sony camera, they are well built and use Carl Zeiss lenses, which are quite good.
  5. I would heartily recommend DV, it's much better, the difference between analouge capture and DV is like the difference between taping top of the pops on sunday night using a cheap boots transistor radio and a waltham mono cassette recorder using the old 'speaker next to the microphone' method and copying a music CD on a PC. If your on a budget after blowing all your cash on camcorder I would go with the following bits of software: Windows Movie Maker 2 (Free download from Microsoft) Nero Vision Express for making the DVD's (easily available, if not free with your DVD burner) I personally use Adobe Premier Pro (7 I think) and Nero Vision Express. The results are excellent. As a word of caution, the Sony Mini DV camcorders used to use a higher level of compression to get the data onto such a small tape, the tapes are very expensive too. I bought a Thomson DV camcorder off eBay and it is very very good (re-badged JVC) this was last year and it cost me £250 brand new. Firewire cards can be had for abotu £15 and mostly come with a firewire cable. You can buy DV capture cards, but these are just Firewire (IEEE 1394) cards with a naff software bundle and a cable and usually go for around £30-40. A second word of warning, 1 minute of DV video takes around 4GB of disk space, so massive hard disk, plenty of RAM and a regular de-frag are order of the day. My current system I use for DV editing is P4 2.8ghz 1GB ram, 250GB hard disk and a Pioneer DVD burner (multi format) If drive space is an issue you can pick up 200gb drives for £75 off the bay. Its quite an outlay but with carefull selection of gadgets you'll be knocking out near broadcast quality films in no time.
  6. A guy I know has just bought a unimat thing and reckons it's pretty good. I know very little about these things so maybe a search on the net is in order. Good luck
  7. Ok, bad picture but here goes. http://www.rckingdom.co.uk/main/projects/p...2/project2.html I'm pretty sure you'll find that these speedos are all pretty much the same thing, although packaged slightly differently.
  8. I'm pretty sure you can get CVD's for the TD, I had a wild dagger which I think is the same truck basically and it came with CVD's all round. I fitted t-maxx shocks and had to modify the steering arms by fitting longer ends to the rods to increase the overall length and put a slight kink in the steering rods so clearance wasn't a problem. I also had full bearings, 2 19 turn motors and twin RC Line speedo's running from twin 2400 packs, it flew, it handled and looked the bizz dripping in blue ali bits and bobs.
  9. Since those shots were taken I've water proofed the electrics and fitted drain plugs to the transmission and rear axle, so when it gets caked in mud I just hose it off, wash out the transmission and axle with WD 40 and its ready for more.
  10. I'm almost certain that these RCLine speedos are the same as Ripmax Volcanoes and Duratrax speedo's Ignoring the colours used, does your speedo look like it has the same case, buttons and heat sinks as this one: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAXT8&P=ML I'm prety these are badge engineered from one company and sold onto whoever wants a speedo with their name on it.
  11. I'll be the first in with a lame excuse, I love writing this type of stuff but I won't have time until xmas as I'm currently doing 1500-2000 miles a week driving round fixing stuff for work. I'm currently covering the UK. Sorry
  12. It must be BMW week this week, I've just been offered a 523i for £1200. Only problem being that it has been badly keyed down the passenger side (why do people do stuff like that) but it is a 97 model. I'll give the 535 a miss, I can't afford it!
  13. Nice work there mate, I'd love to get my Pajero finished and putit up against some other similar machiens (Its Still in bits) and my other secret project started, the only hint is that it's XC based suprise suprise.
  14. An almost fool proof method would be thumb print scanners. These have been available for years but I guess the logistics of getting every retailer hooked up to the same database would a nightmare. The obvious downside would be getting your thumb hacked off by a mugger for £250.
