  1. What??? 3 pounds an hour? What are you waiting for get that thing up and running, we're on to a winner and you can live on that no problem
  2. Yeah the the old ones were official, but they also did a new video for the re-releases (see my link). Just want them to do a 'new' official video for the Hotshot also (Just watch this acceleration )
  3. Wasn't the Avante the heaviest of all the 4WD buggies of the day? Super Shot - 1720g, Bigwig - 1750g, Avante - ?? According to what I've read that was one of the reasons it performed so poorly, due to its weight compared to other cars of the time. Maybe it's superior geometry would be enough for it to overcome a race between SS and BW, but it would be cool to see one take place.
  4. Ah ok cool, so which do you root for in shoot out, Dyna Storm?
  5. Hey guys, Not sure if this has been discussed but I'm curious to know what you all think would be the better performer between those above in their 'stock setup'. If you used an 8.4v in the Bigwig then i guess that would win as that is usable without any modification but the Super Shot requires the extended battery holders. Any other duels we could throw out there? Frog vs Fox vs Falcon (Oh look at that.... ) Were there any 2WD cars that had 'hot motors' as standard when they were released, or was it only the 4WD that had the Technigolds as standard? My money is on the Super Shot and the Fox
  6. Guys, I'm sure we've all the seen the classic 1985 video of the Hotshot in action with the guy that did all voice overs ( ) but what I want to know is how come Tamiya never did a new video like they've done with their SRBs ( http://www.youtube.com/user/TAMIYAINC?gl=J...u/1/wRe8_xtQCqg )? Can you imagine if they could get the same voice actor as they had back then (that would be so cool), or maybe they did already do a re video for the Hotshot and I just can't find it....! Oh, I just found this and had to laugh out loud it's so cool: I don't think any of the original videos come close to being as memorable as the Hotshot that's why it's so popular but I want an official one from Tamiya, is that too much to ask??
  7. Ok but if you upgrade the motor and go with a brushless setup wont you need/require the motor plate for additional cooling effect? I've heard that some motors can melt the standard chassis in that position hence the chassis/motor plate options. I could be cynical and think that the standard chassis was poorly designed and gave Tamiya an excuse to sell more parts but hey, that's if i'm being cynical . So let me see if i understand the reasoning correctly: 1 - Standard chassis the in kit is fibreglass with medium flexability. 2 - Carbon fibre chassis has the holes cut away under battery and motor locations but it is less flexible than the standard kit chassis? Would this be more suitable to an indoor circuit? 3 - High traction chassis also has motor plate cutout is also made from fibreglass but is more flexible than the standard kit chassis? Would this be more suitable for an outdoor circuit with more rough terrain?
  8. Hey guys, I've been looking at the Durga for a while now and wasn't sure which route to go to get one as I was thinking of the DB01-R or straight DB01 plus hop ups. When i did the calculation it works out cheaper to get the R then add wheels etc, but I just won a bid on ebay for a BNIB (factory sealed) DB01 + Futaba radio + battery + charger all for £150 So now I got one () can anyone tell me the difference between the carbon reinforced chassis and the high traction chassis apart from the visual ones (and cost) on the carbon one with the slots cut out at the battery location? Why would you use one instead of the other? Seems that I've been having luck on the DB as I also got a blue alu motor mount coming my way all for the princely sum of $0.99 + postage($4 ) again on ebay and that was my only bid . I guess I'm like a kid with a new toy and, oh hold on, I do have a new toy..... I've got a fully hopped up DF03 (Dark Impact) and a NIB DF03 Avante but I had a few issue running my Impact at my local track (Eden Park Raceway) and always came away with bits falling off or braking with the front suspension mount, carbon/alu, buckled and ripped holes on the gear mounting on part A5. Guys at the track told me to ditch it and go for an Associated or a Schumacher Cat or some such as they are quite fragile but I've been a Tamiya boy all my days so I didn't want to be same as those guys with their fancy sponsored cars an plus 'Da Durga' looks awesome and I'm glad I got it. Now I got 6 x 4WD in total and I'm still looking for more. (Must......get.........Super Shot...............somehow....)
  9. Well if those are not plated I'd be very surprised as the level of detail on them would be, i'd say, difficult to replicate without an original mould. Not only are the main fixing holes present but also the dimples around the face of the wheel itself and those are what we have on the white plastic wheels and that's only reason i say they are plated. Got gold ones on order from Paul.
  10. Thanks for the info on ebay seller and no there aren't any listed. I've seen the RC Channel wheels but I'm not quite sure about the look, but they look like good quality wheels though. I'd really like to be authentic if possible so I'll keep searching for chrome replicas. Thanks
  11. Hi guys, I've been scouring ebay all day and TC for inspiration and I came across this from one member: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...11&id=18745 Anyone know where to get these wheels as I think they look just as good as the gold ones that are being used. They look like they may just be normal plastic white wheels but plated but I have no way of knowing. If I can find a set of each colour then I'll really be able to do a box-art paint job. We need more options to enable us to do real box art paint jobs so any assistance appreciated.
  12. Brilliant restoration on those two Hotshots. I got one off the bay in the post this morning and boy it is a total mess, but the only saving grace was it had the Super Shot suspension kit fitted and for £35 it was well worth it for those alone. I've stripped off those parts and after looking at the rest of the car, holes where they shouldn't be (can only see one on top but there are more), wrong size screws used to hold things in place, 540 motor witha 13T plastic pinion, and about the only other thing i've seen that is remotely useful are the ball bearings in the wheel housings, but they can stay until I need them. My re issue is on the left plus 2 x vintage with recent acquisition in the front. The look belies what horrors I found inside (even had pieces of wood in the electronic compartment where there should be two red inch long plastic spacers to hold the steering servo in place ). One at the back is a solid runner and just needs a repaint I think as the black has peeled off but it works fine. You've given me inspiration to continue and I congratulate you on your perseverance on rebuilding two classic motors. Good job.
  13. Need to get all my cars polished as I don't want to miss it this year.
  14. Ah those pics of your car are very nice indeed and I understand the reason why you stayed with a brushed setup:- cost outlay for good brushless, still have tools to skim brushed motors, and more importantly you enjoy it. I currently have a Mtroniks RV 11 ESC fitted to my Hotshot and yes I removed the TEU101BK instantly as I knew it would struggle with an 8.4v setup. I'm also using a Thunder Tiger Super stock 17T motor at the moment as I picked it up cheap at a hobby store here in London. Thanks for your informative replies, I must go now as I've just received a vintage Hotshot in the post that I'm going to strip for parts (Super Shot suspension )
  15. HA, reminds me of my Samurai. Absolutely sweet 4WD car
  16. Oh thanks for the detailed reply. I didn't know it was that detailed for the smallest component within the motor, but I'm not surprised. Do you prefer to use brushed instead of brushless as I know that the maintenance won't be an issue with them. Is it simply your preference or are there other advantages from running brushed motors (beside initial outlay of course).? I think I'll be looking for an RZ to go into my Hotshot (will it handle an 8.4v battery as I've changed the battery holder to support 7 cell). Thanks again.
  17. Thanks for the reply and I was leaning more towards the newer motors and only considered a VZ for nostalgia. Can you explain the differences in the brush types as I didn't know there were any. Just thought push them against commutator, fix springs in place and that's it. But you've mentioned laydown brushes, f-brush etc. Can you give some details please? Thanks Azkuma
  18. Guys, I have a question about choice of motors for re re Hotshot also. What do you think gives better performace out of the following three: 1 - 540VZ Technigold Motor 430g/19,000rpm 2 - Super Stock Motor BZ 500g/26,500rpm 3 - Dynatech 02H Motor 413g/25,000rpm If it's just a question of numbers then does the newer BZ outperform the older vintage motors hands down? Has anyone actual experience with all three on a Hotshot, or any vintage 4WD for that matter? I'm just deliberating whether to spend silly money or sensible money (he says having just ordered a set of gold wheels ) Thanks Azkuma
  19. What about the following as re-re's: 1 - Super Shot (with Gold plated wheels and not white plastic jobies on re re Hotshot - hmm what motor would they put with it????? ) 2 - Super Champ (given they've done the BC and SS and possibly the F150 is coming next, why stop there) 3 - Avante (Now that would be one to have, but again what motor could they possibly put with it?? ) 4 - Mabuchi RS 540 VZ Technigold motor to solve problem for 1 & 3 above and could be even more powerful and still run with 6/7 cells up (Huzzah!!! ) Those would be ones I'd like to see re-released with the SRB and Hotshot variants being slightly easier for them to manufacture as they've gone through the pain already. Avante might need a complete overhaul and rebuild to improve on some of the things that were flawed first time round but I reckon it would sell like hot cakes. I'll take two of each sir, and several x 540 Technigold....!
  20. Reminds me of my brother and me when we were that young. I got into RC first and started off with a Cheetah then got myself a Grasshoper. Wow I thought i was cool, then my bro came home with a Hornet and that '540 can' and he blitzed me everyday. The good ol' days were the best
  21. I've only recently become active in RC after many decades out but I have used Tony's store to source a few pieces for my old and new Hotshots and this is indeed a sad piece of news, but most importantly is that Tony and family are safe and well. Goods can be re-acquired in due course and I for one will be revisiting his store once he's back up and running. Best of luck to Tony for speedy recovery of his business. Regards Azkuma
  22. This is an awesome restoration given that it was stored away in a carrier bag after its last run (must have been there for years). I too would like to know how you removed the paint from the bodyshell without damaging it. Regards Azkuma
  23. The Bug has always been a special vehicle and I've been in two minds as to whether to buy the re-released Buggy Champ or wait for the speculated Sand Scorcher release. http://tamiyablog.com/ Well, it may only be the blog but it seems the SS will be coming along next year.
  24. Thanks to both 'Wrecked' and 'Origineelreclamebord' for their answers and I'm still looking and in a bit of a quandary as to what to do as Spektrum are in the process of updating the DX3S and releasing a DX2S. The DX3 will now be compatible with DSM2 recievers which may prove to be useful in the future so even though I wanted to go racing this weekend at Eden Park, I may postpone that till I have a decent radio fitted to my Dark Impact. Still haven't ruled out Futaba, but they are more costly The thing that will really be the determining factor is overall fit, since my hands are on the large size I may end up getting my trigger finger stuck in the throttle at the wrong moment which would be a disaster..
  25. Not sure how much 'more' cooling will be achieved by using the Baldre shell over the Durga (something a wind tunnel test may show) but hey these are 1/10th with the motor plate I'm sure it'll be sufficient, for the most part. Where did you get your kit from and how much did it cost you? Oh, just saw on the Club, you got it from Japan (yeah Customs will get you for that for sure) - anyone know how much Duty will be to UK for this kit?
