Hiya, I've got some of those GENUINE Tamiya 1150 bearings currently on eBay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...egory=1200&rd=1 Any questions, don't hesitate..... Neill

Carson did a version of a shaft for TA01's that was basically just an ally rod (approx. 4mm dia.) that had a very simple end to mate up with it's input/output shafts. It should be fairly simple to create something very similar to whatever length you wanted. I'll try to take some pics sometime... I was thinking along slightly similar lines, but to create something slightly different. I was thinking about increasing the break over angle - the clearance under the vehicle between front & rear wheels. One of the ways to improve this was to replace the chassis tub with something. I considered canting the front & rear gearboxes, but that would adversly affect the suspnsion angles - and a universal joint in the middle of the shaft would have been required. I've got a few other ideas I'm playing with - like creating a top deck of a chassis and having a vestigial or two separate bottom decks to handle steering..... Let us know how you get on ATB Neill oh & I've got what seems to be two different versions of FRP chassis & one Ally one.

What about using vaseline( petroleum jelly)? - It's not acidic, so it's not going to attack the nylon gears or any of the metals, fairly sticky so it'll stay on gear surfaces, but doesn't seem to present much drag - nothing like as much as regular automotive grease. - unless somebody has any clues on where to get fair sized tubs of ceramic grease cheaply? [] Neill

I essentially agree with Chris, in that reserves are useful to get bidding started on valuable items. I know from experience that dropping the starting price while retaining the same reserve has actually helped get a better sale. I'm unhappy with ebay getting even more of my money - unless they are going to be more contactable, helpful and proactive in regards to bad sellers/practice. Neill

Hiya, Are the Tamiya Bearing sets any good - like are they /really/ good? I know we can get regular metal/teflon/rubber sheilded from most places fairly easily for approx £25/car. What would I expect to pay for Tamiya ones? TIA Neill
-
I know this isn't the place - sorry Chris .... Do you know how many thousands of our ££££'s are spent /prisoner each year? - just so they can get out and are housed, given therapy, jobs & benefits...... Anyway, I'm really glad that your collection is still yours. I've never been overly keen on those thin sheets of tin for a door, I'd always be inclined to replace them with heavy wooden (or steel - better still) doors that open out....

Ebay - Bad sellers. Time to change the rules?
Camel replied to netsmithUK's topic in Tamiyaclub News
Chris,M4F, Additionally, I have also noticed (in different forums) a tendency to make potential bidders aware of items that are being touted as genuine (but we know them to be fake) - hopefully not relevant to Tamiya stuff yet. I have also come close to warning the current high bidders in a few auctions that the seller has a "reputation"/the images/items are "borrowed" etc. I think Chris's latest, is certainly food 4 thort - where do we draw the line? I like M4F's idea, but would suggest an additional column/field perhaps, that allows people to express doubt about something to do with an auction (no free text, just an auction ID), then readers can go & look @ the auction & make up their own minds &/or contact the poster in question via email & ask why they think that there's something dubious going on...... We've got two Lidl near us, one's got Merc ML's, Honda s2000's, VX220's, Z3's, and a couple of others, as well as larger "pull back" powered Commercial trucks (recovery truck with car lift - interesting RC project) etc. - but NO 'Mogs [V] - I'll have a look in the other in the next day or so! Neill
-
Barry, No problem. All received. I'll ship shortly. Thanks, Neill

I've just had a payment refused. I paid in GBP, because that's what the auction was in & the "pay now" button came up with. The seller has refused it because "the currency conversion (to USD) is not favourable". I've suggested that if he has an auction in GBP, it's unreasonable to expect payment in another curreny unless the listing states specifically otherwise (would that be against eBay regs?). What are your experiences - anything similar?

I know that either "unsuitable" (in the eyes of eBay) auctions can be pulled, or the seller can withdraw items under the pretext of "lost or broken" or example. The reason you can't see it in their dBase, is that they do their weekly admin. Friday mornings (GMT), so all the dead ends get flushed..... HTH Neill
