  1. Hi, can anyone help? I have a Michelin Pilot Cosworth, model number 58125, which has the TA01 chassis. Over the time I've had it the body has become damaged with use. I would like to upgrade the body to something newer. but I'm struggling to find any original bodies to fit. I have found out that the TT01 chassis bodies fit, and as I have another model, Tamiya XB Subaru Impreza WRC, model number 57717, with the TT01 chassis I thought that swapping them over would work. Unfortunately it doesn't. Someone advised me to get the Tamiya RC 4WD FRP Rear Damper Stay. I've tried this along with swapping the rear body mounts, but struggling to fit Subaru body. Can anyone help with this?

Well the FRP rear damper stay/tower is a good move as it allows more mounting options for the rear body mounts. What exactly is the problem mounting the scooby shell? Is it that the wheels dont line up (wheelbase) or are you having problems with mounts?

  2. I could be wrong but I think that honor goes to 84026 F103 15th Anniversary kit:

    34.7cm x 18.2cm x 5.6cm = 3537 cm3

    Next to 1/10th 934 shell

Either way, Tamiya has outdone themselves in squeezing everything in for these kits I think ... almost too nice to unwrap.

    WOW! Thats small! :D

I bet they charge the same for shipping though! B)

  3. Well I think thats shocking!

I`d be asking my bank if they could find out where the cheque went and when it was cashed tbh. I dont think they will be able to do alot though. :P

See things like this annoy me and I would name and shame the member! A year to wait is way too lng! B)

    Hope it gets sorted out!

    Good luck! :D

  4. I know guys that have had success using BullDog Adhesion Promoter - they sell it in rattle cans. It sprays on clear and works as a flex agent for standard enamel or lacquer spray paint. All I know is that is needs to be sprayed very thin and it was not really intended for use on Lexan..

Nowadays you can find nearly any color in the rainbow for Polycarbonate spray cans.. Why would you want to use a non-flexible paint on a lexan shell?

Well they dont do the colour I have in mind in polycarb, plus I've always done things differently in everything I do. Or at least I try to!

Seriously my headstone will have engraved on it "I am not a sheep, and is that the time already?"

  5. The problem is that "normal" paint will dry to a very hard substance, that will brake and loosen from the lexan at any bending.

Lexan paint is very flexible even after it has dried.

I have not tried "plastic bumper paint" but as long as bumpers are not as flexible as lexan, I am sceptic...

    -Lars

Maybe a plastisizer would work if it was mixed.....or backing it with a polycarb paint. I know a lot do this anyway to add different lighting kind of effects so maybe that would work? Say silver or smoke.

Hmm thats got me thinking again....

  6. It`s funny you should mention this............

Back in the day tried numerous types of paint, including auto paint on bodyshells without success. I recently started thinking about the plastic bumper sprays and other sorts car/motorcycle paint, mainly because the formulas have changed a lot in recent years for environmental issues.I might try a couple different paints out on some scrap lexan sometime, see how it goes.

I will not expect any miracles, but hey, if i don`t try I won`t know........ besides, if it sticks reasonable it would probably be OK for an occasional runner.

Well I will be cutting my RX7 body soon and I'll try some methods on the scrap from that. I fail to believe that in this day and age that only polycarb paint will stick to lexan shells.

You dont try then you dont make progress.

  7. Flakes off anywhere its rubs on the body and will probably react with nitro fuel too.

Well I use electric only so thats not a problem. How about sanding the inside lightly with 2000 grade sandpaper to get a key? Would that work? Can't help thinking that there must be some way to do it.

  8. Hi all.

I've been talking about paint the last few days as I'm sure a lot of you will have seen and this got me thinking....and forgive me if this has been covered before!

What would happen if normal car spray say from halford, was used to spray the inside of a lexan bodyshell? Now I'm guessing that it wont stick to the plastic as it would maybe need a primer of some sorts? But these days some cars have plastic panels so now my mind is whizzing round! Has anyone tried doing this though?

Would love to hear your thoughts guys!

    Cheers

    Rich

  9. to expand your paint options, get down to halfords and get some plastic primer

then on top of that you should be able to spray any automotive paint!

halford have quite a range of colours too. maybe find a car that has a nice colour, then find the spray can equivalent

don't forget if you are spraying metallic, you will need some laquer to go over it as well.

+1 to halfrauds! (I've been ripped off a few times there now but their paint is good for RC models)

If you want funky check out Volvo's saffron pearl colour! Looks lush on road cars imho.

  10. Wow, enough with the big font already!

Re: Posting a spray can. Did they send it surface? Most air freighters won't knowingly carry aerosols with flammable propellants such as thinners. Are you sure UK customs will let you import an aerosol into the country?

    - J

My view is the fonts are there to use so use them!

I have no idea and all I know is they say shipping will take 7 to 14 days. So guess I'll find out then. But looking at their feedback other people from the Uk have ordered spray paint within the last month and had no problems so I'm not too worried to be honest. :)

  11. Well after a long search I have finally bought some TS18 paint from empire-rc in Hong Kong!

    Madness!

I REALLY hope Tamiya sort out this label issue soon!!!

Lets hope that the 1st of septemer is the day we get the TS and other paints back here in the UK!!

A BIG thank you to all those who have commented and helped in the search!! :)

    Cheers

    Rich

  12. Yeah it would make things easier but since when have tamiya ever done that?

What I'm now wondering and its slightly off topic, is have tamiya now solved the label issues that saw the TS and other paint ranges removed from the UK shelves??? If wonderland are getting the paint I want in stock on the 1st of september then is this going to be the case for all the TS plus other paints and for other stores too??? Personally I hope so but I wont hold my breath. :)

Has anyone heard anything about it?

    Cheers

You need the Tamiya TS paint for Abs, the PS being for Lexan...as you know... :D .... I think your after the Tamiya TS-18 mate

    Zak

Ah yes maybe I didn't make it very clear, as I know its the tamiya ts range but not sure of the number! lol

Also I cant seem to find ANY tamiya ts paints for sale! I'm in the UK by the way and thats why I asked about the humbrol. So is the ts18 a match for the ps15?

    Cheers

  14. Hi all.

    I have hit a problem.

I want to spray a lexan shell with ps15 metallic red paint which I've bought but the shell has a spoiler and wing mirrors made from abs! Does anyone know which paint I need to buy for a match? I cant seem to be able to get any of the tamiya paints for abs and it seems its only humbrol I can get! I may end up getting tamiya paint off the net but not sure which one I need. I'm not an expert in mixing paints so thats kind of out. Would prefere spray cans but at a push the small tubs will do. Or can I use the ps15 on abs?? I know it wont have the gloss finish but could I then use a clear coat?

    HELP!!!

    Cheers

  15. Hi,Brooklyn Nights.

you're right.on paper the plastic one seems fine.i think the main advantage of an alloy one is durabilty.

the plastic one can crack due to heat from better motors making it brittle.it can strip its threads and worse case..snap and let the motor fly out while running!

to avoid the confusion of the GPM versions, and the random fit and finish,i would whole heartedly recommend the Ta01/2 alloy motor mount made by Pargu2000 on ebay.

i have one of his..EXACTLY the same as the orig.this means if you want the speed tuned gears then its all as per the instructions.

I had both a standard and modified by GPM and neither fitted well at all.in fact the modified was miles out.not for the mesh of the pinion exactly,it was more the fit into the gearbox.this poor fit translated as an angle on the pinion to the spur and it ran tight ...till it mangled the pinion and spur (single run on a sport tuned) :D

incidently the GPM "modified" means it is designed to allow "speed tuned" ratio's with out the speed tuned spur?...on road possibly an ok idea....off road (with bigger diameter wheels) not that great an idea either.

had a look on ebay for Pargu2000 he currently doesnt show listing for his alloy mount...perhaps an "ask seller a question" request and he'll be able to sort you out. pretty sure his mount was 10-15 quid

Thanks for that info. I'll have a look on ebay and as you say maybe ask if he can get a hold of one!

    Cheers

  16. Don't forget to get an alloy motor mount to replace the made-of-butter plastic one.

    - James

What exactly is the reason for using the alloy motor mount? See what I'm thinking is that it just screws in to the original plastic gearbox so in my head I cant see it really doing a lot.... Doesn't it just put more strain on the plastic gearbox it is attached to? I've used the plastic one for years without any problems. Can anyone advise me on this?

    Cheers
