  1. Well done,Brooklyn Nights. The Tamiya own brand rear tower is gonna be sweet. You can be sure that it will fit on a dream.

It is a shame the fronts are so rare, but the GPM front for a TA02 (i know that there should be NO difference) looks spot on. the pic for Ta01 seem different? same with the rear?

im also guessing the GPM quotes a colour? poss for the alloy bracket that attaches it to the front gearbox.best check with listing..a choice of blue/silver ? just incase.

Yeah I noticed the colour choice and it did puzzle me, but what you say about the bracket makes sense though I'll still check before buying.

I didn't actually look at the TA02 stuff! Dont know why as its the same chassis really. I'll have a look when I get 5 mins. Thanks for the heads up! ;)

    Cheers

  2. The prices are US but they are in Hong Kong I believe. They are a sponsor here as well. That would be a shipping error probably.

I thought you were after individual lights ? You can google 3 Racing they are available all over the UK, Hong Kong, Japan and very reasonably priced for your next set. They are direct fit to Tamiya tlu01 ;).

Thanks I'll bear them in mind for future reference if they are cheaper. I'm guessing at some point the led's will get to the end of there life so if I can find cheaper ones then ace!

    Cheers

  3. Ok I have bought a tamiya FRP rear tower to solve the mounting problem so just waiting for that to arrive now. Would love to get a front one to match but as already mentioned I think there hard to find!

I may invest in a graphite one from aisatees to try and match in.

    Cheers

  4. Haha plus make the battery last about 2 mins! :)

Well I'm going to be using no lower than a 3000mah battery so hopefully it wont be that much of a problem. Saying that though I'm not sure exactly how much power the led's will draw.... ;) Cant imagine it will be a great deal? Maybe I'll have to start a new topic to find out! :);)

  5. Haha thats ok I've use dthem both luckly enough the COuntach sheel uses BOTH sets of 5mm then requires a further 4 sets of 3 mm, crazy, so in total TWELVE LIGHTS!!!!

Yeah same for the RX7 6 front and 6 rear! Its gonna look like a motorised xmas tree in the dark!

  6. honestly, get a 13T 35a ezrun combo, these things have about the same power as a 19T brushed but are way more reliable and infinitely adjustable, and for not much more than a quality brushed motor on it's own.

and no u dont need lipo's to run them..

Well I already have an unlimited esc so I just need a decent motor now.

  7. Right looks like I just need 3mm although I think I should get half white and half orange as thats the colour of the light stickers :)

Yeah I changed the colour of the ones I was supposed to get from orange to red.

    Personal preference I guess. :(

Shame we hadn`t had this convo before I bought mine as I would have offered to buy your 5mm leds off you.

  8. Hi Rich - ahh right that makes sense then! Well it says number 3 on most although the TLU I have as you have stated, has 2 sets of lights, one red and one white, both with 5mm LEDs which fine perfectly, so that must mean I need 5mm ones?! Why are things never simple!!

Best thing to do is try the 5mm ones you have in the led holder for all the holes. If they fit then i guess thats what you need.

I tried this with my RX7 and they didn`t fit the ones that are for the 3mm leds so thats how I worked it out. Trial and error.

  9. Hi Rich - ahh right that makes sense then! Well it says number 3 on most although the TLU I have as you have stated, has 2 sets of lights, one red and one white, both with 5mm LEDs which fine perfectly, so that must mean I need 5mm ones?! Why are things never simple!!

Well you may need more sizes too as I got the bodyset with the tlu and it has the same as yours (2xWhite and 2xRed 5mm leds included) with it and these do fit my RX7. But I also needed 2 more 5mm White leds, 2 more 5mm Red leds, 2 more 3mm White leds and 2 more 3mm Red leds to finish it off!

I agree things are never simple

  10. only got 2 i'm afraid

maybe if you can find another set . . .

from what i can tell, i think they are part number 3797 - split 6 wheel 26mm chrome

Knowing my luck I`ll end up with 2 sets of different wheels! :)

Guess I`ll just have to keep looking for the tamiya ones if there available.

  11. Do I need just the 3mm do you know?? I can't work it out!!

Well it depends on the shell and its instructions

Usually where the pics of lights are in the build manual it says 5mm red or 3mm orange etc.

Sometimes there is a symbol that is a circle with a diagonal line through it with a number 3 or 5. that is the size of led that that led holder needs/takes.

My RX7 shell takes 4x5mm white leds and 2x3mm leds for the front so that is 3 sets totalling 6 leds for the front.

The back takes 4x5mm red leds and 2x3mmr red leds so again 6 leds and 3 sets.

Not having the same shell as you I cant say what you need but your build manual will tell you.

  12. aha!

i actually do have one pair of wheels, kinda similar to them

    but made by hpi

    hpi.jpg

i actually have them listed on ebay for 8 quid plus post

if you want them, you can have them for 8 quid with no post cost, and i will take the auction down

    these are 26mm.

i am straining my eyes looking at the ones on the model info pic but can't really see them too clear

There close but I think the "V" is smaller on the RX7 ones.

Do you have 4 or just the 2?

They may be a last resort choice.

    Cheers

    Rich

  13. your choice of font is very striking

got a pic of how the wheels should look?

    lol thanks!

It make these easier to see on my mobile when I use it to post :)

Sadly the only pic I have is a box art pic. But I am just off to have a look in the reference bit of this site to see if there is a pic on here!

The kit number is :58382 oh and the original chasss was a TT01 and not the TL01 I said before, my bad.

    Cheers

  14. Hi mate, so is it not cheaper to get these rather than the whole set then or just as cheap to do it with the full set each time??

Well the full set I am guessing your talking about is the tlu-01 set with controller and 2 sets of 5mm leds 1xwhite and 1xred yes?

Now the 5mm White leds are the most expensive at £12.75 a set which means 1 plug to fit the unit but 2 leds (cheapest I found from wonderland).

5mm Red leds are £5.99 a set from ebay

3mm White leds are £6.50 a set from wonderland

3mm Red leds £6.99 a set from ebay.

So it depends on what you want really but the full sets (tlu-01) dont come with 3mm leds.

  15. Hi all,

Anyone know where I can get the wheels and tyres for a Tamiya Mazda RX7 from? 12mm hex fitting I think they are as the chassis it was original from was a TL01 (I think). I want them for my TA01 which I am currently building and painting the Mazda RX7 body for.

  16. Hi guys, I have 1 X Tamiya TLU-01 for my Lambourghini Countach i've been making. After starting to fit the lights, it would appear I need (shock horror!!) another FOUR SETS! I just wondered if you can purchase the lights separately to plug ito the control box that comes with the TLU-01 set, instead of the whole pack (which comes with the control unit etc) - does anyone know??!

    Hi

yes you can but be warned there expensive!

I just bought some 2 mins ago for my Mazda RX7 shell which needs 12 lights in all!

I got mine from wonderland models and ebay. just search for tamiya 3mm led or tamiya 5mm led.

    Hope you find them.

    Cheers

  17. This is some really excellent advice guys thanks!

Yes I've seen the gearboxes suffer from overtightened screws from ones I've bought off the bay. Worse still is when people use screws that are too long! Makes you wonder sometimes!

Anyone have any good suggestions for a good quality motor that fits my needs I stated above?

    Cheers

    Rich

  18. If you use the GPM CF or alloy tower you will also need the adjustable upper and steering link sets to keep the toe and cambers in check as the geometry is different for the upper link holes compared to the standard plastic towers. The damper length for tourer is the same, these holes are in the same location as the original.

Excuse my ignorance here but is that the same for the FRP tower too?

    Cheers

    Rich
