  1. I've always been a monster truck kind of guy, so my recommendations are gonna lean that way every time. I'd say Lunchbox with a Lexan body or a stock Clod. Yes, I know Clods can be money pits, but they are a great platform to grow with. And nothing is more fun to watch than a Lunchbox trying to stay rubber side down

  2. I remember reading an article in RCCA back in the day about dying one of those chassis. The guy wrote that although he was able to get the color right, the boiling water warped the chassis.

I'm enjoying your build. I'm about to start a Monster Beetle build myself, and planning on using many of the hop ups you have.

  3. Nice build. I'm thinking about one myself. My first hobby rc was a Monster Beetle back in 87. It was painfully stock, and I never broke anything. Eventually I had the JG shock mounts, CRP skid plates, and a full Thorp ball diff and dogbone conversion. Never had more than a stock motor. Ran the thing 5 minutes with the Thorp and broke an axle. Pitched the whole conversion back into the parts box and went back to stock.

  4. So I'm really partial to the Tamiya Baja Bugs. Had a Monster Beetle back in the 80s. All these beautiful Sand Scorchers make me want to build another Baja.

So I'm looking around at options: rere Sand Scorcher, modified Frog, and Blitzer Beetle. And then I had an idea. I had a Wild Willy 2 when they first came out, and did the Wide Willy mod to it. Well, how about building a Blitzer Beetle and doing the opposite? Make it narrow enough to fit the tires in the fenders.

Is this reasonable, is it old news, or am I way off the reservation?
