  1. Thought I'd jump into this thread rather than making one of my own. I just managed to pick up a 969 in fair condition for all up a bit over $800 of my south sea pesos. The body is not great, but that's ok as I'm going to run this thing. I do need to find that front frp thing that the body pins are mounted on and one dogbone for the front. I'm going to put modern electrics on it, cause screw old electrics. It has a repair on one of the lower front susp arms that looked crap in the photos, but on closer inspection, worked pretty well. Going to make a new arm with my 3D printer.
  2. Well, for all that I just updated mine. It's not too complicated. It is separated into brands, then particular model, whether it's running or not, and what needs to be done to it to get it running.
  3. I too have a spreadsheet to keep track of everything I have, what needs doing. It needs updating....
  4. You guys are my spirit animals. Yes I do overthink things a lot. It's why my builds are comparatively slow.
  5. Ha! Me too, I know what that was like! Off topic, but I was kinda amazed that my first iphone was more powerful than my first desktop PC.
  6. Part of that story reminded me of one thing I don't miss from the good old days. Sourcing parts. Back then the hobby shops in my city believe it or not didn't stock spares for Kyosho gear. This was more or less right during that buggy boom in the 80's. One of the first things I did with my first Ultima was run it into a kerb with smashed the radio plate, bent the front of the chassis too. I had to wait at least 8 weeks from memory for a replacement.
  7. Very. Mostly lack of driving skill (that hasn't changed a lot tbh) mechanical speed control that I could never get to work better than mostly on/off. The results were interesting.
  8. I'm usually in the buy a basket case and fix it up and get it running. I find it very satisfying and I also feel that if I start with a car that has not been running in a decade or more then all bets are off to get it back to operational (with a bit of common sense). I leave the fully original historical artefact for the shelf to others, and good luck to them too. We all have our own sweet spots. I actually managed to snap up, and I still can believe it, a Porsche959. It's not in the best of nick, isn't running or tested from memory, and needs a new front arm. But this is why god invented 3D printing. I think I'll only fully believe it when it gets here. I paid 600CAD for it, the shipping and tax costs out it up to around 800 antipodean pesos. So deals are out there, not as good as they were, and you have to play the really loooooong game. Now anyone out there got an RC10 B3 and or an equivalent Losi buggy?
  9. I remember when they first came out, I had one in fact from that time. I saw an article in an RC magazine back then and the writer was marvelling at the fact that Tamiya had built a car that was just for fun, no pretensions to racing.
  10. I dragged my ******* and never managed to get a re-re Optima when they came out, mind you I'd never had one and didn't have a lot of interest in the model, till it kind of snuck up on me. Not too long ago I did snap up a cheap Optima frankenstein of old and new parts and I am going to rebuild it one of these days.
  11. These are actually a really cool little chassis, I have one with the 99 WRX body on it and drift tires. Heaps of fun.
  12. Thx. Yeah I've run it several times. Changed out the centre diff for a solid unit. It goes well, I've only given it light runs though. I don't want to break it.
  13. Good to see the problem was solved. My self, if I was having that kind of problem I would have checked the slipper. Another thing I also do is to pop out the motor and roll the buggy to see how free the drive train feels. The less resistance the better, especially with belt transmissions. But, you found the problem so well done.
  14. Well it depends what the hop up is I guess. The blue blingy stuff is nice but I generally don't go in for it, at least I don't if it adds nothing but bling. I have a Monster Beetle and I have a Blitzer Beetle, I've put Tamiya Aeration shocks on both, transforms the chassis's. They technically aren't hop ups for those models, but I bought them and put them on anyway. Not sure If I'm answering the OP adequately.
  15. I used a Kimborough medium servo saver in my NovaFox. Might need to tweak things a little here and there for clearance from memory, but it did fit, and they are an excellent servo saver.
  16. Well, that's a shame, they would have been a nice thing to have to get around the juddering problem as well.
  17. Good comments, and thx for the tip on the shocks.
  18. Racing.........from the FUTURE!!!!!!! Looks like you had s good time. Umm, yeah I've never owned or run a Lunchbox, but it seems to me to be a Hornet on stilts, it will be fun, but will never handle well. A stock MB will handle much better, not great though. My fairly modded MB handles quite well.
  19. I have a collection of around ~40 cars of different scales, manufacturers, types. About 21 of them are Tamiya. It's very much a 1 of each proposition for me, or I don't have multiples of one type of chassis and I don't by and sell for profit. Good luck to those who do, but it's not my jam. Actually a lot of the joy (and frustration ha ha) for me in this hobby is restoring basket case cars back to working condition.
  20. Welcome back! Nothing wrong with going down the Lego hole.
  21. Ahhhh, first chink in the armor, doofus here didn't notice when he bought it that it didn't have shocks...... It wasn't late at night, neither was I drunk. Oh well, any suggestions for shocks for the Egress? Tamiya of Aftermarket, either or.
  22. I have a Blitzer Beetle. I'm usually not awful at putting decals on a body. The job I did on Blitzer is an affront to all that is decent and good in the world, and to RC in general.
