Bear Hawk Steering Hop Ups
Old Falcon Lad replied to Old Falcon Lad's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
OK thanks Mark. Do you need a different servo saver to connect these to, as I can't see how this kit would fit with the current set up (which has hooked ends to the steering rods)? P PS can some kind soul let me know how to get my footer to appear on replies, as well as on new topic posts? -
My First Restoration - Bear Hawk Complete!

Now ticked both boxes, and I think this may have opened it up to all readers (which seems odd?). Lars, let me know if it works. P -
My First Restoration - Bear Hawk Complete!
Old Falcon Lad replied to Old Falcon Lad's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Hi Lars, Thanks for the help! I've had a look and the only box that's checked is actually 'allow showroom comments'. The next one, 'allow only subscribers to make comments' is not ticked. What am I doing wrong? P -
Dear all I'm looking to strengthen up the flimsy steering rods on my Bear Hawk. What kits are available for the job? Cheers, P
-
OK guys I have finally finished my Bear Hawk restoration, and have created a showroom. Please check it out and let me know what you think! It's been great fun, and the car goes really well. Could not have done it without your help, and special thanks to Berman, TA-Mark and VagabondStar JXF for the advice and parts. I think the car works well with the new wheels and custom Ford Electric Orange paint job! Sports tuned is pretty rapid too! Paul

Charging Batteries In An Acoms Transmitter
Old Falcon Lad replied to Old Falcon Lad's topic in General discussions
Ok thanks guys, that does help. Do most folk generally extract their AA batteries and use a Delta peak charger then? P -
Charging Batteries In An Acoms Transmitter
Old Falcon Lad replied to Old Falcon Lad's topic in General discussions
Thanks for the reply, This is the actually the current model for sale on ModelSport, so I wondered if the technology has moved on at all? Ta again, Paul -
Afternoon all, I'm looking to buy an Acoms Techniplus 27 AM transmitter, and wondered if this unit has a charge port to allow the 8 x AA cells to be charged whilst still inside it? If so, what charger should I look for - presumably something that does 12v, but what jack shape do I need? Ta Paul

Painting A Bear Hawk Shell
Old Falcon Lad replied to Old Falcon Lad's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
OK cheers Mark, I'll give it a go. Any photos of your BH yet? -
OK cheers guys. I was intending to download a manual for a rebuild / assess what I've got. So I guess any TL01 manual would so, with the exception of the two Subaru models mentioned? Paul
-
Afternoon all, Just picked up a rolling chassis for less than a tenner, and I think it's a TL01. Not sure what the original model would have been, as I can't place the wheels. Have a look here and let me know your views: http://www.flickr.com/photos/paulclack/4502398413/ Also, another lot of stuff came with a mystery bag of parts. Could these be monster beetle bits? http://www.flickr.com/photos/paulclack/4503046240/ Thanks again, Paul
-
Dean That sounds fab, I've sent you a PM with my contact details for the photos. I too had the same rule, and then bought a Tl01 rolling chasis at the weekend for no other reason that it was going cheap.... Paul

All Another rebuild, another part needed. I need a new Hornet shell, but I'm struggling to track one down. I thought with the re-re these should be easy to find, but all the usual sites show 'out of stock' messages. I assume I should be able to track one down for about £15? Cheers, Paul

All It's taken a while but I finally sourced some decals for my Bear Hawk rebuild via a TC member, and am now on to the painting stage. Old shell was stripped successfully using caustic soda, and I gave it a dry sand with 1500 grade wet and dry. It's has two coats of plastic primer, and will get another light rub down tonight. I intend to spray the body hot orange, but assume I need to mask off the rear cage and pillars? Simple masking tape I assume plus a bag over most of the cage? I guess the cage/pillars will be silver - would you spray these too or brush paint them? I'll post to pics once I make progress! Cheers, Paul
-
Grand, thanks very much. You have PM from a grateful member! P

Dear all, I need a couple of 3 x30mm screws to attach a motor to my Bear Hawk. Rather than source a whole screw bag, is there an easier way to source these little beggers? Cheers, Paul
-
Thanks all, As Mark knows I have a Bear Hawk project and thought these might be of use to replace the friction shocks on the car. The rear shocks are the same length, but the oil fronts I've got are around 10mm shorter. However I reckon if I take the lower connecting 'eye' from the BH shocks and swap it onto the CVA, it might fit. Onlt trouble is the BH's are red, so perhaps some dye/paint might be needed! P

Oops, spot the first time Flickr user! Is this better? http://www.flickr.com/photos/paulclack/4362630484/?edited=1 Ta folks!
-
All I bought a set of oil filled shocks off eBay as I think they may do for one of my projects, and wondered if anyone knows what car they originally came from? They are 100mm and 70mm if that helps. Photo here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/paulclack/4362630484/ Cheers, Paul

Simple Question Re: Chargers
Old Falcon Lad replied to Old Falcon Lad's topic in General discussions
I was thinking of just picking up a simple controller, in particular an Acoms Techniplus unit like this: http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=...amp;ItemID=2027 Would this have the necessary socket? P -
Which Primer For Old Bear Hawk Body?
Old Falcon Lad replied to Old Falcon Lad's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Kev The only plastic filler primer on their site I can find is this: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...yId_165495#dtab This describes itself as grey. Do you have a link to the one you use by any chance? Cheers, P. -
Evenin all, Dead simple one from a newbie restorer - do modern chargers like this: http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=...mp;ItemID=32523 ... charge both the main battery and the cells in a transmitter? If so, do you simply run a wire into the transmitter or do you have to remove all the cells each time? And would the charger, assuming this one is any good, come with both wires / adaptors? Thanks again for your patience! P

All Those in the UK probably know this already, but if you are looking for a cheap source of toothbrushes for cleaning up models, Wilkinsons do a 2 pack for the grand sum of 10p! At that price, I'm just using one per cleaning session and when they get gunked in old pinion and 20 yr old grime, I bin it! Hope this is of use, P

Basic Electrics Question Re: Switches
Old Falcon Lad replied to Old Falcon Lad's topic in General discussions
OK sorry, I'm following the original build manual and may try and use the old MSC. As this is old technology I guess I'll have to track down a seperate switch. Would this do: http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=...mp;ItemID=12743 I don't need the battery box though, so wondered if these are sold on their own? P
