All I've got an old ESC in another eBay win. This one is an RCline SP-RF20, and it has a setup button. I've only used auto ESCs until now, and I guess this is an old obscure unit. Does anyone have any tips on what to do to set up this unit? Guess work appreciated! P

All I've inherited some old radio gear and a motor in another project car from eBay. The motor I know nothing about. It's a Team Corally Street Touring 16T Double motor, and looks in OK condition. I guess from mid-90s? Anyone have one of these or know if they are much good? Perhaps decent speed but lower torque? Cheers again, P

Yep, they were a matched set so I suspect a loose or crossed wire might be the issue. Is it easy to take these things apart and look for these sort of issues? Knowing my luck I might find it mysteriously full of Ribena or worse from the kids...

Hi guys Well, the kids are in bed and the Mrs out, so I finally had a bit of time to try and get to the bottom of this. In the end it seems its the transmitter - I tried the same Tx crystal in an old Acoms AP-227 and all work's fine. Also tried the dodgy transmitter on a seperate set of radio gear and had the same problem. No idea why this nearly new handset is sending out odd signals controlling both/neither/wrong channels intermittantly - do these things go wrong easily? And can they be fixed? As the 20 year old one seems to work fine and the new one's packed up, I might just buy vintage from now on! But maybe my 3 year old has been fiddling when Daddy's not looking... Can't rule out an accidental bounce down the stairs whilst I've been at work!

Thanks guys, Best I can find is this: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S19807168 Probably OK for 4 cars, though not sure on the height? P

All I've not the luxury of a dedicated room (yet...) for my cars, and as the number seems to be rising, does anyone know of a good place to buy good sized clear storage boxes? Ideally, I'd like some large ones that would take several models and I saw some of the underbed boxes in IKEA and similar places, but was unsure if they were tall enough. Something large that would take 6 cars in a 3 x 2 format would be ideal. The ones I have at present are mostly a bit on the large size for 1 car, but not big enough for 2! P

Thanks guys, Tried all of the above without success, including swapping both connectors round in the receiver - still just getting control of the steering plus some random forward and reverse power. I'll pull it apart and look for damage, but it's all new gear. I've some old receivers that I've not tested yet, so I'll try and swap in one of those to see if it helps. Any other bright ideas appreciated! P

Thanks, tried that though and no joy. Would taking the ESC out completely help, to give it time to recompose itslef??!!

All Firstly, apologies if this is a daft question - I'm really new to the world of ESCs, and I may be making a simple mistake. I got my first RC running again in 20 years last year, the Bear Hawk in my showroom. I ran it a couple of times fine, then put it away in the dry. Just got it out with my 3 year old to have a look, and the ESC has gone haywire. It's an Mtroniks Sniper RV-20 Auto from Modelsport, that I don't think I can reset as such. When I turn it on now, both levers on the transmitter (normal Acoms techniplus AP-202) are controlling the steering, and I have no control over the throttle. This occasionally kicks in when I move the steering lever on the Tx (Channel 2), but otherwise nothing. I've pulled it apart and can't see anything wrong, no frayed wires, loose plugs etc. I can't believe I fried it already, it's not even been run in! Any advice please????? Yours in desperation, Paul

Morning all I've a super sabre shell that was in a right state when I bought it. Several coats of horrendous paint on the inside, that I've mostly removed via De-solv-it, but there are scratches, scrapes and fog patches on the inside. As I'm unlikley to drive it much, is it ok to spray on the outside of the shell, and maybe top coat with a lacquer of some sort? This is my way of 'saving' an old car - it will never be perfect, but IMHO more satisfying than buying new parts! P

Morning all I have a super sabre and hotshot that have well used wheels - has anyone had any success in simply re-spraying them white to take away the yellowing? If so, what's the best paint to use that's hard enough to still allow you to fit tires? Also, what putty should I use to fill the odd scrape and chip - I see Tamiya make a few. To sand afterwards do you simply use 1500 grade wet and dry? Please point me to a 'how to' if it helps! Cheers as ever, P

Told you so!

You seem to have it bad, so obviously the answer is both!

Great quote! Must remember that one. +1 for the Bear Hawk btw, having fun with mine - check out the orange beastie in my showroom. P

Hopes And Dreams From Tamiya In 2011?
Old Falcon Lad replied to pagedm_f350's topic in General discussions
My top three re-releases Mt Tamiya, in no particular order please, would be: 1. Super Champ 2. Supershot (though the price tag might scare me) 3. Porsche 956 You never know... P -
Hi there, I'm sure you will find TC really useful as your projects progress, it's really friendly here and members will always help so don't be afraid to ask questions. I like the look of the Brat - hard shells are always fun to work on and it even looks like the tyres are OK! P
-
Hi Have you got the rear wing to go with the HS2 body by any chance?

De-solv-it Graffiti Remover Stockists

Interesting - this is a spray not a liquid, but it sounds like the same stuff. Might give it a go. P -

Thanks guys, I've realised that screwfix do a pay and collect deal (saving a fiver in postage!), so no doubt I'll find myself near a depot soon! P -
Guys Having heard great things of this, I'd like to buy some to strip a few shells. Does anyone know of a high street / DIY chain that stock it, as I'd rather avoid P&P charges from Screwfix. Cheers, P

Go on, it would be ace. And at the rate mine's going you'll beat me to it by several years! Repeat after me, I must stop buying ebay wrecks, I must stop buying eBay wrecks....
-
Great! Glad you think my idea's a good one - are you going to go for that scheme then? I think it would be mean in BR Green! P
-
Fair comments! Though if you buy a rough one for, say, £60, you'll no doubt spend a lot more than £40 on spares. However, this is not a theory I seem to follow as I keep buying wrecks that I could 'save'! I suppose compared to a fairly typical new kit, you can pick up a Wild One for not that much these days, especially with 20% VAT in the UK! You've just gotta get into the mindset of not looking for that 'too good to be true' bargain on eBay......
-
Agreed, though not the most expensive car, I would have thought a very good condition Wild One would be £100+ which to my mind isn't 10 and penny. But perhaps you have deeper pockets than me!

Fake Supershot Pictures?
Old Falcon Lad replied to Old Falcon Lad's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Cheers guys, these were the ones I was thinking of. One of the cars on a certain trading site at present lacks the bumper which raised a bit of suspicion, but as you say these things are as rare as hens teeth, I probably worrying unduly!
