Teu 101bk cutting out under constant acceleration
alfagta replied to rallymad1's topic in All things electric...
hi, if it cuts then starts and cuts then starts repeatedly then your battery is on its way out as the voltage is drooping too much and the esc is just letting you know it needs charged or replaced but, if you mean it just stops and wont start again until you switch it off and on again then its thermal shout down from over current suggesting too hot a motor or binding in the transmission or too large a pinion , my money is on a dead /dying battery. -
thats exactly what I am thinking speedy, most of the changes Tamiya have made seem to point the chassis at the drift /rally basher market which is what I am looking for, I would love an xv01 and its on 'the list' and going by raman36's thread http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=69008 it seems to be a good tuff car but the upkeep cost on my tt01's was soooo low the tt02 is making sense , I really hope Tamiya do an underbody for it but the shape of the new tub looks like a 4wd buggy shell under a rally car shell might be a good fit to keep the crud out .

good stuff, could you let me know which esc you have and what manual gave the correct set up please and I will post it on the HK site for future users, cheers -
I did look at the differences when the 03 came out , there is no doubt its a HUGE step forward over the tb02 , I never had any issues with the diff pinion at all though some have ,especially in heavy impacts , for me it was always the diff outputs being ripped apart by the uj's under acceleration ,even with the punch turned down on the esc,, you are spot on with the diff screw issue, easily over come with stainless screws and by fitting the thrust race into the diff half first then using conical washers instead of the springs that were obviously leftover from another car and Tamiya thought "they will do!" ,
-
you are right , my mates 03 has the conversion chassis that has no spur cover! you have been lucky though ,I have read lots about the 03 diffs melting and breaking in many places on the web hence I just stuck with the 02, my tb02's were better than the tc4 I had but, the 02 I used for the carpark and street has had 9 sets of diff outputs and I stopped buying Tamiya diff screws after 5 sets broke, got some stainless steel screws from a supplier on ebay and that issue was cured but plastic ball diffs are worse than plastic geared diffs IMO , one set of diff outputs were the alu hop up version and while they didn't break they did wear very quickly ,as I mentioned the gear diff option for the 03 is out there so may try them in my tb02 and keep it for clean track use as I love the way they handle, my tt01D is still my preferred hacker and its now rather worn so I am faced with fixing it up or hanging off for a short while and getting the TT02 , for which I already have steel uj's and diff cups and plenty of spare bearings so it would just be a prop shaft and shocks that would need buying , would you take your tb03 to the skate park for jumping duty or run it on gravel with a 6.5 or 7.5 brushless system ? I don't with my 02 so wouldn't consider an 03 for the task, but, my tt01's have just soaked it all up so I will be getting a tt02 for blasting about with. I suggest its all down to intended use and I do hope your 03 continues to leave you satisfied but for the use I have in mind the tt02 looks far more suitable . best regs

just in case here is the manual link for a hobbyking esc, http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uploads/696621111X605554X14.pdf , its the only one I know of that has a solid orange led that comes on at initial set up since you mentioned the solid orange led , it is a slightly different set up to the others , its worth a go if the rest don't work -

hi shaggy, it will self calibrate every time but it will do so with the chosen programme settings held in memory , here is the manual for the 60a v2 which is based on the leopard , http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uploads/474930583X104969X31.pdf , if this is the one you have it should be all good , if you don't get any joy then jump onto hobbyking live chat and ask them for the manual to be sent to you, if you have to do this then have the model number , version and also the HK item listing number handy , they have always sorted any issue I had, all the best -
I have tb02s and the diffs are a major issue , are the tb03 diffs any better? I could add geared diffs to the 03 but that would add £60 or more to the price , also the open spur and pinion are bad news for anything other than indoors or swept tarmac , the steering system also jams up with even small stones , the front dog bones would still need replacing with uj shafts to stop the usual jammed shaft when one of the o rings goes MIA !, its a superior racer but as a carpark basher it simply sucks , the tt01 needed an alu prop shaft but even with the plastic dogbones it wore a 6.5t brushless system without jamming or snapping anything, the only time I broke my tt01's was when I had one at the skate park doing large jumps(12' air off the 9' vert ramp !), , until I have fitted one with a 6.5 brushless system and thrashed it I cant say for certain but it does look to be a better car and could be great basher.

looking my-tee fine, I would say yes , hop up the hubs , its one place where aluminium makes sense if you have broken the plastic ones before , would be keeping with the red and blue Tamiya colours too

hey shaggy, did you get those trackstars sussed out yet??? -
the more I look at the tt02 the more I like it, the tub has been reinforced a lot around the gearboxes so a top deck may not be needed , easy ride height adjustment along with the other improvements are looking like this will make a great car park basher/racer , it will take a few hop ups such as 3 racing damper set , a ball race set ,some steering tie rods with turnbuckles and ball joints and a Lexan tunnel for the prop shaft when used on gravely surfaces , with that done I reckon it will be great fun , even with the plastic drive line,, there is stiff competition from sakura, hpi, associated and the likes but, the sakura and hpi sprint are not car park cars due to the exposed belt drive systems , the tc4 is guff due to weakness of the plastics and high spares costs not to mention the awful dampers and bearings , think I will get one for hacking about as I am fed up with trying to keep the tb02 (my current car park 4wd cars) diffs working .

they are well thought of , they have a 15t limit ( officially ) , they also do a probe wp which has li-po cut off built in so I am guessing you are using ni-mh packs , either way they are good little esc's .

I ask as the leopard based trackstar 60a has auto set up , but the tx must be set to reverse as mentioned above , once that's done it should start up fine and give full throttle , then, you adjust dead band etc with the programme card . let us know how you get on and post the model etc with set up once you get it figured. -
the Subaru or the short course type one? the Subaru is handsome , they did a splendid job with that kit, body and wheels work very well together , the short course type pick up I am not so keen on , didn't want to say that though as I have moaned and winged enough

im with you on the 3 speed OSR , I have always held off from getting a hi lift or other modern 3 speed though, the nasty plastic axle housings and very naïve chassis construction always put me off , looking back to the hilux, blazing blazer of old and they were far nicer , the re re bruiser was a welcome addition but I just don't like monster truck type cars and there are purpose made crawlers these days that do the low speed thing far better , I would prefer to see Tamiya flex its scale rc muscles again and start to do some stuff like rc4wd seem to manage without too much problem , the kind of scaler that's for using rather than to satisfy filling gaps in a collectors hoard. a 3 speed metal axle unimog or early land cruiser with extended drop links on the leafs would be amazing , personally I don't just want a rerelease I want an improved rerelease that reflect and even sets the state of current scale off road rc . I know but a guy can dream (and tamiyas job is to make it a reality!)

defo, sorry Tamiya you aint getting my next £300!
-
hi, if you are wanting to restore the kit back to original then it has to be Tamiya screws, there are lots of screw and bolt suppliers out there and Tamiya used jis cross point heads and metric threads so I am sure you could find pretty close alternatives . good luck

which esc do you have ? -
I hope that they will unleash the big guns in shizuoka in late may , (are you reading this mr Tamiya ? we want all of the above and we the customers are always right,, right!!)
-
this has my interest , just under £300 with a spectrum dx3e radio and waterproof receiver , li-po and charger included , , its begging for a 1/8th truck body .
-
me too, I was rather surprised that they went for a separate moulding for the grille and lights just like the first time they released it and the wheels just set it off perfectly, I don't often build shelfers but that's a keeper .
-
the only cars I want are the golf M-05 and the cc-01 Toyota (always fancied a cc-01) , might grab a tt02 at a later date when Tamiya bring out a more refined edition or a particularly fine bodied version . you never know Tamiya may roll out another kit or two.

nice one Lee ,
